England v Romania
Outstanding work from Southgate managing to pick a lineup without a right back

Re: England v Romania
TAA injured and out, Walker and James still not available due to Chelsea and City being in Champs League final, Trippier played on Thursday so being rested. Looks like Godfrey at right back.
Re: England v Romania
Champions League final was a week ago. They're professional athletes. Surely if there's any point at all to these friendlies, it's to tune a team for the tournament.

Don’t know why Rashford is in the squad based on recent form .claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:33 pmGood question, out of the starters you'd think Grealish, Rashford and Shaw are the three realistically who have a chance to start against Croatia.

Sounds about right to me, I'd add Mings to that list if Gareth goes 3 at the back in the Croatia game.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:33 pmGood question, out of the starters you'd think Grealish, Rashford and Shaw are the three realistically who have a chance to start against Croatia.
But it does seem bizarre to have warm up games and not play your 1st XI and try and get some sort of continuity.
Interesting that he's picked the eve of a tournament to give Sam Johnstone his debut, I understand he'll need blooding at some point, but you'd have thought he'd have given Dean Henderson a game if he's going to be the number 2.
Jordan Henderson to get 45 minutes, so I'm guessing they'll be wholesale changes at HT.
But I honestly can't see many of this starting XI featuring in the opening match.

Can’t even see England getting to the last 8 tbh, but Gareth will prob keep his job, get a contract extension, and we will continue being in the wildernesses. Mings!! Christ on a bike.

He can stay for me. Dyche would be in the running if he was to leave.
Re: England v Romania
Christ this is dogger. Maybe if Southgate concentrated on training the players instead of lecturing the public, we might look half decent.

It’s like when you decide to camp next door to an electric sub station.
It’s like coming out of the dentist after three fillings.
It’s like the pain you get when your car has failed it’s MOT and needs £***** spent to get it through.

Re: England v Romania
Yes and this is a Romanian side who haven't even qualified for the Euro's and arguably they've edged that 1st 45, decent save by Johnstone right on HT, but that back line is giving me kittens I have to say.
Re: England v Romania
If Mings is starting at the Euros we won’t even get through the group. He is absolute garbage.

Unbelievably Romania are one of only 5 teams in the world we have a losing record against and we haven’t beaten them since 1970.

Mings is a liability! He will cost us in the tournament if he has to play. How on earth is he there ahead of Tarkowski? I’d argue Tomori is also a better option.
Dyche’s England XI
Pope
Trippier
Keane
Tarkowski
Mee
Taylor
Brownhill
Cork
Westwood
McNeil

Why doesn't he play something resembling his preferred starting line-up?
At least for 30 mins or so.

Because he wants 2nd in the group to avoid France or Germany so a slow start won’t be a disaster, the extended rest for CL finalists may benefit players later.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:19 pmWhy doesn't he play something resembling his preferred starting line-up?

Re: England v Romania
Rashford shouldn’t start for me. I’d go with this -
Pickford
Walker Maguire Stones Shaw
Rice
Henderson Mount
Foden Kane Sterling
Providing Henderson is fit that is. If not then Ward-Prowse for me. Tough between Sterling and Grealish but I think we need that pace in behind. With Grealish there would be too many players coming for the ball to feet, where Sterling gives us the option in behind, especially given Harry Kane keeps dropping deeper these days. Which also needs to stop during this tournament , keep him central and in the box!
It looks like Southgate will go with 3 at the back at times though so expect Walker to centre back with James out at wing back, with one of Sterling or Foden to be dropped.
