Don't think the Italians want to play now, they must fancy penalties.

Re: Today's Games
Going to be interesting which goalkeeper does better in penalties. Donnarumma's with an almost 42% save rate but Simon (25%) having the practice and confidence from the last round.
Italy obviously have a lot of faith in their keeper.. who's 22 and a free agent BTW... although he's set for PSG apparently.

Re: Today's Games
Probably good for England. Should mean we're able to keep the ball some.
Re: Today's Games
I enjoyed that shoot out having replaced the Danny Murphy soundtrack with "trump ton riots" by half man half biscuit.
Re: Today's Games
Got to be happy with that.
Will be a much better atmosphere with the English and the Danes, let's hope it's a better game and England win.

Italy v Spain
What a great game. I am always surprised that once into the extra time things get defensive. Overall I think we can score more goals than Italy so bring it on but play enough attacking players to do it.

Re: Italy v Spain
The one thing that was nailed on was that morata missed the penalty that knocks them out. Surprised the commentators didn’t pick up on it. But before the shootout Enrique asks Morata if he wants a pen. He looks up and says yes.
You either tell your striker he takes a penalty. Or he demands he takes one. If you have to ask him to take one he shouldn’t be on them.
Great game. Both out everything into it.
Starting without a striker though always baffles me.

Re: Italy v Spain
As long as we score more than one against defensive experts like the Azzuri. We need at least two goals

Re: Italy v Spain
As for Italy. Denmark should be a very tough test and we should never underestimate them. Especially in a one off game. Their record over the last three years isn’t far off Italy’s. In fact they have beaten and drawn with us in our two meetings in that time. The win coming at Wembley.
They have a lot of pace and physicality. And will put their bodies on the line.

Re: Italy v Spain
We'd probably need about half a dozen goals because we are bound to get cheated by the eyeties.
Still, we have a match to play and win before we get too ahead of ourselves.

Re: Italy v Spain
Spain were all over Italy for long periods and it only changed when Spain took Busquets off. He was running the game, then it looked like Italy got a 2nd wind once he was off.
Re: Italy v Spain
I thought Italy were 2nd best all night tonight, very fortunate. Spain took foot off the gas in ET while Italy dived around and wasted time for pens

Taking him off was them protecting him from a red rather than getting the job done. Madness. Almost as mad as starting with no striker.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 11:27 pmSpain were all over Italy for long periods and it only changed when Spain took Busquets off. Re: Italy v Spain
Excellent effort from Mancini and his team against a pretty decent outfit. Nothing much between the sides but Italy's leader stayed on the pitch; Spain's didn't. Didn't see any diving around or time wasting by the Italian team in extra time and when the whistle went for full time it was Spain that appeared more relieved. Some record, 33 games undefeated for a country whose national side was on its knees.

Great match. Don’t remember any VAR or trainers on the pitch, acting was at a minimum and the ref let the game go. Loved it.

Good one, bill.
Needless to say, I have a bad feeling about tonight.
Klinsmann made a good point about how England might react were they to go a goal down.

Re: Italy v Spain
Should we beat Denmark, I’d be delighted to go to extra time with Italy. Imagine the fresh legs of Grealish, Foden, Sancho or whoever of the attacking players don’t start to come on against that lot. They looked done after 90 minutes. Of course you may argue and say they held out during extra time, but Spain didn’t look to bring on any game changers like the English ones I just listed.

Tactical masterclass by Mancini. When they took the lead 11 men behind the ball, inside their own quarter they were so deep. Took a great goal to break that.
Although Spain looked great, too many passes sideways and no decent striker cost them

Spain created some very good chances.
I don't think tonight's winners should fear Italy.

It was an absolutely fantastic game to watch. I normally have my phone in my hand, only looking at the TV during moments of drama. Last night I was transfixed and utterly absorbed in the game for over 2 hours. Wonderful entertainment.

Re: Italy v Spain
Thought Busquets was remarkable, Olmo too. Spain's also kept Immobile quiet.
I thought Spains tactics were spot-on, can see why not playing a striker makes sense when you come up against Bonnuci and Chiellini. Just a shame their finishing was so poor.
If England beat The Danes then Kane is going to have his work cut out, and we'll have to be more creative than Spain the break them down whilst also not making mistakes at the other end.

Tonight's semi
So much hype from the media and people who generally could not give a crap about football getting themselves into a lather.
BUT it's great isn't it - it feels like the good old days when the FA Cup final was a massive spectacle. Getting quite excited now.
Enjoy your semi tonight chaps!

Re: Italy v Spain
I didn't expect Spain to score once Italy took the lead. Past masters at protecting a lead. The goal that Spain scored was a good goal but very unusual to see an Italian defence that 'flat' and disorganised. 37 year old Chiellini led his team like a true captain during extra time.pompeyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:52 amTactical masterclass by Mancini. Nothing on today and counting the hours down, six hours seems such a long time away .
Looking for good omens and the Domino’s pizza and Quality Street ritual will have to continue .
The weird thing is I don’t feel nervous which in itself unnerves me a little.

I admire your confidence - I'm starting to feel doubts as I do when the Clarets are up against it. I know we'll probably be OK but that pessimism born of years spent watching BFC is just naturally ingrained.

Re: Today's Games
I know Denmark are a good side who play attractive football going forward that will give us defensive problems.
I anticipate that they will score and with Kane firing at last can’t help thinking we will score more than them.
Its been a long time since I’ve wanted England to win as much as Burnley. Never thought I’d ever say that again

Re: Today's Games
Very confident about getting to the final tonight, we have much better players than them and are a better team, granted, it doesn't always work like that mind.
I have the same eerie feeling that we will win like l had when we played Sheff Utd at Wembley.
Same here regarding your last sentence Elizabeth.
Come on England !!.......ps. 1st beer opened

Re: Today's Games
I used the UHD option last night for the first time on our new TV and it was incredibly good. Changed channels to avoid the half time punditry, changed back and option not there.
Tsk.
Any ideas when the team is announced - are we looking at the same starting lineup again, I wonder ?
