The ball wasn’t close enough to him to play without going in recklessly, he could have chosen to stay on his feet and move closer to the ball. Had he done so then his and the Ukrainian players tournament wouldn’t both be over.
You keep saying 'going in recklessly'.
He didn't go into anything, recklessly or otherwise. He kicked the ball and the Swedish player, who was running at speed went into his boot when the ball was miles away.
It's no wonder that Football is like Basketball when even some fans have fallen for the mindless rhetoric.

He's all about the ball though, he's watching that, his studs only went up after he kicked the ball away, at which point the Ukrainian lad collided.
Personally I think its an unfortunate collision, but it wasn't intentional or malicious.

Even Freddy Ljunberg is saying it was probably a sending off. Anyway good result for the Ukraine, they’ve had their moment, hopefully we can bury them on Saturday.

Yeah and Paul Merson was actually dribbling in outrage claiming Barnes deserved a red... Along with every other pundit pretty much and the FA didn't take any retrospective action.

Yeah, but Paul Merson isn’t a Burnley supporter.

I think the games gone very soft. And the player 100% went for the ball. But in context of modern game it’s a red.

Reminds me more of Lafferty's red against Arsenal when he played the ball but his foot bounced off the ball and into their players shins.
I didn't think that should have been a red card then, I don't think this should be red card now, but in the context of modern football it is 100% a red card.
It was a complete accident, eyes on the ball, won the ball first - but he endangered his opponent so it has to be a red.

The best group of England players you have ever seen? Are you 5 years old? better group than the Gerrard Scholes Carrick Lampard Cole J Cole Rooney Beckham Rio Terry lot? not a chance. It's a better group because of the group Southgate has created, sadly people wont want to admit that. We have Leeds United and West Ham in a midfield 2
I’ve just red re-read this. Who gives a **** whether we’ve Leeds players, West Ham players in the team. We’d most probably have had a Burnley player in there but for a bit of bad luck on Pope’s part. Leeds and West Ham are official the 9th and 6th best teams in the best league in the world!

Neither were any of the numerous pundits who all wrongly claimed Barnes would get a red, get punished by the FA etc

Yes, but that wasn’t a red even with the modern interpretation of ‘reckless’, today was!
Anyway, enjoy the rest of your evening.

Was the goal scorer's celebration anything to do with Gay Pride Month? I mean, did anyone else notice that, when he took his shirt off, he was wearing a bra underneath. You must admit that that has to be a first.

I'm having a productive last hour tbh
Just got a signed Spurs Kane shirt for my step dads birthday at what I think is a good price and they'll post it straight to him.
Saves me having to bother mucking about in the shops this week looking at crap and not knowing if he'd like it.

The Swedish player was stretching to get the ball, he got it before the Ukrainian lad, the Ukrainian lad collided with the leg AFTER the Swede had kicked the ball away.

Well, the Swiss are on a roll and there's no need to waffle about Belgium's strengths so it's those two for me tonight.
Should be two cracking games with so much talent on show.

And then there were 8, It's getting down to the real nitty gritty now.
11 players one booking away from missing a potential semi-final, that's tough to imagine, but I suppose they can't think that far ahead.
Funny feeling Italy and Switzerland will prevail.

According to Roy Keane and Ian Wright, the last time they were on doing punditry, they were both of the strong opinion that Italy would beat Belgium and were their pick to lift the trophy.
Despite a long unbeaten run the Italians have beaten nobody of note so couldn't have them at any price even if the Buns all come out on crutches!
Can't see all 4 favourites getting through so let's hope it's Italy that gets beaten.

When are they going to drop the daft “don't flag for offside” rule.
That’s twice the Swiss have been so obviously offside and play has continued

Really poor half. Spain practising death by a thousand passes but seemed to lose their way as the half progressed which may give the Swiss some hope. Switzerland very wasteful in the final third.
