If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
With our manager celebrating his 50th birthday today I was thinking back to his time at Burnley and all the special days we’ve had.
If you could choose just one game, which one would it be?

Hard to see past our first win against Rovers at Ewood in 2014 in his first promotion season.

Hard to pick just one but the 1-1 draw at home to Middlesborough after falling behind sprung to mind.
Think we all sensed then that automatic promotion was on the cards even though there was still more points to play for.

Yep, that win at Deadwood, the Chelsea game wasn't bad, though, must admit.
And Jrods goal at OT.

Preston away in the promotion season when Barton scored the winner. Never seen a Burnley away end like it before then or ever since.

As an earlier poster said above Chelsea 2 Burnley 3. Maybe the first or second game of the season. It set us up and we went on to finish 7th. Cork and Defour imperious that day, and could easily have won 4-2. Chelsea had just celebrated being PL Champions
Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
Some great memories, the victory over Leicester to get us into Europe was special.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
A strange one but it was the first time I thought we were serious promotion material: Forest at home.
Forest were doing pretty well and everyone thought it was gonna be a tough one. We blew them out of the water in the first 25 mins and went 3 up.
I think that's when we first saw a Dyche team performance. Many more came & the Wigan goal at the end of that season topped it all off.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
In games I actually attended then the 1-1 Middlesbrough at home in whatever year it was.
The entire day of March 9th 2014 is one of my favourite ever days though.
But the 2-0 win at Old Trafford is probably the best we've ever been for a full game since 1970odd.
If I can only take one memory with me to paradise then it's gotta be the bastards.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
This one came to my mind too. Should have been about 10-0 at half time, we murdered them. If Jamie Paterson had scored the chance just after the rebound pen, we might have struggled to hold on strangely. We were brilliant for 60 mins that day.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 7:48 pmA strange one but it was the first time I thought we were serious promotion material: Forest at home.

Liverpool away last season, 60 odd games unbeaten at home then little Burnley turned up. They then imploded at home.
Season before that we should of beaten them if JBG shot an inch lower.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
Blackpool at home when Ince was their manager & i think it was a night game but i thought Dyche intimidated Ince who never got out of his seat & the Burnley team mirrored that on the pitch. It’s a template that has been repeated & repeated. Something myself & my great friend Beeky used to chat about was how Burnley in the warm up are usually in T shirts & come out in short sleeve tops where most teams have tracksuit & waterproofs on & need to strip of before kickoff, I’m sure its part of the mind games?

I thought the away game at Brentford 3 - 0 up by half time.
Our last promotion season in the Championship. Barton outstanding and JT refused to play for Brentford.

Can't really top defeating the "equine interference mob" on their own patch but strangely (and certainly not the best performance i've seen) but Istanbul Basaksehir at home! Waited all my adult life to see Burnley in a European Match and was there that night.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
lots of great games mentioned but I keep coming back to the home wins against Klopp's Liverpool (the ultimate in high press football to get the lead and then formidable defence and the home win against City - both hugely against the odds but ultimately defined our reputation, though we have a lot lot more nous now

Another here for Forest at home. Total football for at least 60 minutes.
Closely followed by the win away at Chelsea, where my favourite song of all time was sung after the 3rd goal
"Three nil, and we've only spent three quid" - priceless.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
The win at Ewood. Not our best performance by a long stretch and not even the most enjoyable match. But to finally win that game in a packed out away end, after going behind, was brilliant. Not only that, I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was fairly convinced we would win promotion following that game. Dyche also came out 10 mins after the game finished to applaud the fans which showed how much it meant to us.
Obviously some far better performances and results have followed but the win at Ewood tops them for me.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
There are so many countless games it wouldn't be a surprise if we ended up with one for each of Dyche's 50 years.
I've opted for our 2-0 win against QPR waaaay back in 2013 because it was the day we went from being potentially just a flash in the pan to a team that everybody could see were serious contenders with real backbone.
Easy to forget how skint we were back then, how chronically short on numbers we were (Ryan Noble was a sub that day and I'm not sure we even filled the bench). QPR on the other hand were still getting parachute payments and had multiple times our budget.
Favourites for relegation and we were promoted in style. Says everything really.

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
So many choices, so many great answers.
Loved the Wigan game.
Brentford away was a superb performance.
Beating that lot down the road is always soooooo satisfying.
Weird selection - Watford away in the first promotion season when Scotty equalized with less than 10min left - that's when I knew we were going up.
Beating City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea in the prem.
But it has to be 0-2 at Old Trafford - that game was never in doubt and to do it after all these years - fantastic - thank you Sir Sean.

Not a classic Dyche performance but I always go for the 3-2 v Palace as a favourite.
Maybe the 1-0 v City showed best how ludicrous amounts of hard work and organisation can overcome almost any opposition. That was a very Dyche display.

Ewood - no brainier, the noise when the second goal went in and the emotion was something I’ve not felt since, ok maybe when my child was born earlier this year it emulated it, maybe!
Trippier ecstatic will live in my memory for a long time.

So many great ones to choose from, but the Barstewards have to take it for me just to finally shut them up and sink them to where they are now.
On that great day, my non-footy-minded colleague's wife is an avid ST holder at Deadwood. He texted me after the game saying "and she was so happy at half time!"

Speaks volumes that there are so many strong contenders, but that win at Ewood probably shades it. Watching it in the pub with my now sadly departed mum, was great

Re: If you could pick out one game from the Dyche era
Fantastic thread....very very difficult to pick one game but he answer is somewhere in the suggestions already made. I'll just add the 1-0 win away at Ipswich quite early on in the first promotion season.....a ground where we always, always seemed to lose in my lifetime but when Scotty Arfield's header went in I remember thinking we were looking like the real promotion deal.

Yeah, the Ipswich win was great SAC. Having lived close to Ipswich for most of my adult life that was a '30 years of hurt' moment for me. I dined out on that one for ages!
