I have never at any time said that I "hate" England. As you are stalking me why don't you go back through all my posts and find evidence to back up your comment.
As for the game I thought I'd give it a go.
If you followed the match thread you would see that I posted that I do find watching England uncomfortable.
I don't enjoy the games particularly, and I don't much care for our style of play, though i have to say that the 2nd half last night was a vast improvement.

He might not be as good at taking crosses or shot stopping but that might only be an issue every five or ten games. On the other hand he needs to distribute the ball well multiple times every match. He's the keeper who suits the style of play.

Re: Pickford
He’s had very little to do tbh , though he’s been sharp and good distribution as he always does . As for him being “ incredible /immense / superb “ are these the same posters who to a man appear to give him terrible stick almost on a weekly basis ? You know the same “keeper coaches”who thought Hart was finished at 28 and Pope “ way better than Pickford “?? ( though Pope’s a cracker )
I’ve always been impressed with since watching this almost insanely fast and agile 13/14 yr old training at Carlisle ( with some Sunderland academy lads ) who would spray it about very long with his sidewinder kick . For me he’s a tad headstrong but in the words of a certain. Manuel Neur “ I can only say positive things about Pickford “

Re: Pickford
He's been good I'll grant you that, but England's player of the tournament has to be Sterling surely, he's been the one who's provided a constant attacking threat, and without his goals, running in behind, and his willingness to take on defenders we'd have been an even more impotent attacking force then we already are, fortunately our rock solid defence has ensured we haven't needed to be breath-taking in the forward areas, and in that JP has certainly played his part.

If he played for us, he would be adored. He has been exceptional for England in just about every game he has played. Nick getting injured was a blessing for Southgate, not that he doubted Pickford. All Nick can do is get back to fitness, get back his his old form, and he will be back in the England squad

Re: Pickford
Pickford seems to have toned up his body and worked hard at the psychological side of the game.
That has to be applauded because it shows he’s reacted well to advice and I think it deserves reward.
He has all England fans on board at the moment and I hope it stays that way.

He played well the other night.
Let's hope he doesn't get over confident and start flapping for the impossible crosses.

Re: Pickford
If I'm honest I've never rated Pickford as one of the better England goalkeepers, mainly because he does make mistakes, though admittedly more for Everton than for England.aggi wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:36 pmAnd that's why Pickford is the better keeper for England.

His distribution of the ball is his main attribute. Having said that, I was at England's first group game against Croatia where some of his kicking was very poor. Quite a number of fans around where we were sitting were talking about this more and more as the game went on.
I have watched closely his distribution since then and despite what some people are saying on here it hasn't always been the best. On the whole it has been good but there have been moments in a few of the games where he could have put us in trouble.
He has made some excellent saves in 2 or 3 of the games where he has just had a split second to react and has certainly risen to the occasion. He does sometimes kick the ball much too hard and it either ends up with the opposition keeper or out for a throw in.
I just find it a little ironic that when Nick Pope played those 3 games for England before getting injured the tv commentators always seemed to be highlighting his distribution even when he was doing ok with it.
Re: Pickford
Got away with another sliced clearance against Ukraine.
In that sort of position he just needs to put his foot through the ball and not try to do anything clever.

In what way? If it was Pope that did that you along with all the media would be crucifying him for weeks going on about his weakness using his feet
Re: Pickford
Anyone can make a mistake, the worry for me was how he reacted after the mistake, he seemed to have a wobble for quite
A while.
Good that he sets his standards high but as the co- commentator
Said he needs to get on with the game!

Re: Pickford
Pickford has been very good this tournament and has fully justified his starting place. He’s made some good saves, is excellent with his feet and has the confidence of the defenders in front of him. Credit to both Pickford and Southgate.

Re: Pickford
People on here have been obsessed with Pickford for a couple of years because he is in competition with our own player. It is not me who has an agenda but people like you who are so clouded in your view that you dont judge what they do equally.
Pickford hasn't conceded a goal, made some great saves and has been excellent with his feet which has been a big part of the way we play. I therefore think for someone (who admittedly doesn't rate Pickford) to watch last nights match, and cling on to one bad clearance to have a go at him is desperate.

Re: Pickford
There were three or four poor clearances by Pickford last night. Not just the one. It happens every game.
To be fair he has had little to do so far, but he is an excellent sweeper.
There does seem to be an over reaction by the media with Pope's distribution (granted it is sometimes wayward), but little or no reaction when a Pickford clearance bypasses any England shirt.

He has exceeded all expectations, or maybe it’s because something is not right at Everton.
I would have played Pope from the start had he been fit.

Re: Pickford
He's stepped up when needed but I wouldn't say he's kept us in games quite the same way as Pope or Heaton have done for us before but he hasn't needed too.
What I like about him is his passion and aggression. Really gives the defence a kick in the butt if we're on the back foot. His distribution apart from the last game has been top notch.
His confidence will be high and that's only going to help him more. He could go down as one of the greatest if England win.
But yet he hasn't had a whole lot to do.

Pickford makes mistakes, thats why Everton were alternating goalkeepers at one stage of last season.
Some Burnley fans have been pointing this out, just like they point out on here that Nick Pope sometimes struggles with his kicking.
It's not just Burnley fans who have been mentioning Pickford's occasional mistakes, several TV pundits have been saying over the past 12 months that perhaps Pope should be given the chance to be England's regular no.1.
They haven't been saying that because he is Burnley's keeper, those same people would still be saying the same thing if he was West Ham's keeper.

Pickford's been really good, I'm surprised at how well he's done. But his slightly manic reaction to a bodged clearance in the last game was a bit worrying. Reminded me a bit of Joe Hart when he used to get too wound up before an England game.
He needs to chill out, he's doing well.

It is interesting though given that Pope and Pickford have both made the same amount of mistakes that have lead to goals over the last 12 months. I think very few people would be calling for any keeper to replace pickford if he didn’t play for us.Targetman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 9:54 amPickford makes mistakes, thats why Everton were alternating goalkeepers at one stage of last season.

Re: Pickford
I'm not Pickford's biggest fan, but it's pretty obvious he's played magnificently so far. He had one moment of madness against Ukraine, and that's it. I always feel slightly uneasy about him in big moments, but credit where it's due he's made some really important saves. He just needs to maintain his cool, if he does we have the best man for the job between the sticks.

Everton were all at sea last season, defensively shakey, and like us and Fulham showed, they were extreamely poor at home, which isnt usually like them.

My first thought when that Denmark goal went in… Popey would’ve saved that.
Just a few signs that Pickford is losing his cool as the pressure builds. He’s done well but the cracks are appearing.
Did well to come back as we did.
