I see this signing has gone down as well as the nee sponsor did.
Aside from that should be an adequate number 2 and allows BPF to get some valuable championship experience

Having witnessed what I did towards the end of last season I've got to say I feel a lot more comfortable now should we be without Pope for any length of time next season.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
A very, very shrewd move. After sadly seeing our No 2 & No 3 keepers perform in the last 5 games or so, it makes total sense. Even more sense to let Peacock Farrell go on loan. It gives him needed game time and keeps him in the shop window. Well done to the club in moving quickly. Means he is part of pre season and if Nick not 100%, he can step straight in. From what I have seen he is very good with his feet
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Nothing to complain about here. We needed better cover after seeing 2nd and 3rd choice keepers last season. We’ve now got it. Let’s hope we can get the right wing berth sorted now.
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Hopefully we don't need him to play. Dyche has obviously seen enough of the two back up 'keepers (for now) and has concluded he doesn't wish to rely on either should Pope be unavailable.

He's an experienced goalkeeper at both Premier League and international level and will provide excellent cover. Gives us the chance to get BPF out on loan initially.

Good move by the club, decent contract length so BPF can go out and get lots more experience under his belt.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Hennessey was the first team goalkeeper at Wolves in 2008/09 when we went up with them. They also had David Jones, Stephen Ward, Sam Vokes, Jason Shackell, Michael Kightly and Chris Iwelumo that season. I think Hennesseyn might be the last of them to sign for us.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Decent keeper, definitely a good option for number 2.
As others have mentioned, if this gives BPF a loan opportunity then it would work very well for us.
I'm probably a little surprised that we beat Chelsea to his signing. He must know that Pope is number 1 and I would've thought that being based in London with Palace and the (assumingly) competitive wages they would have offered him that Chelsea would have been tempting. Maybe he fancied his chances more of claiming the number 1 shirt if Pope gets injured and he has a good run.

Get BPF out on loan and playing week in and week out and it’s a perfect signing.

Good signing.
Our other two back up keepers seemed to get caught in the headlights a little last season. I don't know why as they have done alright in the cup games.

That is a pretty amazing stat/fact
It seemed like there was a period where we were signing lots of players who had played for Bournemouth, recent years Stoke and obviously Wolves.
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
A very good signing IMO and ideal back up. It was clear to anyone that Norris is way out of his depth, and BPF certainly needs first team experience before being considered at this level. About as good as we could have hoped for realistically.

Welcome Wayne, good luck with the Clarets.
I'm sure you'll understand that I hope you never get a game, as it means Nick is fit, and playing well. I'm also sure there will be opportunities, and that if called on you won't let us down.

An excellent signing, BPF and Norris had their chances at the end of last season. Both came up wanting and we were lucky to get away with it. A trusted, experienced backup keeper is essential, Hennessey fits the bill, welcome.

In all seriousness that is a brilliant bit of business. Experienced goalkeeper and a good one at that who is coming in for a few years as backup. But as many above have said more than capable if needed.
BPF and Norris fill me with zero confidence. Hennesey has plenty about him.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
I tend to agree. We had issues when Pope wasn't available, just like we did at CB and certain other areas when our first choices were out. We gave both back up goalies run outs and they were found to CURRENTLY be a bit below requirements and loans out to decent standard clubs would make a lot of sense to aid their progress. Hennessey is a solid signing meaning we can be far less worried about Pope being unfit at any stage. Now let's get a couple more in (not goalies of course).
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Solid signing that, welcome Wayne!
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Agreed a very fine signing on paper, he hasn’t played much over the last couple of seasons and has had some injuries but on the whole VG.
Why Burnley and not Chelsea well he was born in Bangor so he might still have connections there and of course Burnley is a lot nearer.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
I saw quite a bit of him in 2019/20. I went to Leeds where his mistake cost us a goal but, that apart, I can't recall too many errors. Thought he looked very useful and he's a very tall goalkeeper too. I've no idea how he's progressed since.burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 1:53 pmWhat are the thoughts on Jensen? My father-in-law asked me a few hours ago if we'd signed anyone else (besides Collins) and I told him not yet but that we might be closer to signing a backup keeper. Little did I know, he'd already signed! Honestly, I don't think we could expect much better as backup -- highly experienced goalkeeper so I agree it's a very solid signing in that respect.

Just looking at the pictures of Hennessey.
Maybe it's because he's posing for the camera but he looks more like an actor pretending to be a goalkeeper than a real goalkeeper.
Looks like a photo shoot for a mid-90s sit com about a 2nd choice goalkeeper

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
I think this is a very good and shrewd signing by the club. He will more then likely be back up for Pope, but he is good enough to even take over if Pope has periods of bad form.
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
I don't like him. His surname has too many n's and s's, far too complicated. I'll never be able to post anything about him because I'll never get the spelling right. Look what happened to Hedrix and Woods, it will all end in tears
Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Never really rated him, but he's got to be an improvement on the other two. Obviously hope he does well

No complaints from me. A shrewd signing, and a player who will give his full support to the cause even when he is not playing. It will also give Nick some good competition which is what you need. Welcome to the Turf Wayne.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Over 180 PL appearances, and an old head who's also experienced plenty of success with Wales, an excellent capture for the Clarets.
I never realised he was so tall, 6 ft 6 so you'd hope he would be able to command his area.
He's clearly not superstitious as he's taken 13 as his squad number.
Welcome to Burnley Wayne hope you enjoy your time here.
However where does this now leave us in terms of keepers, Pope, Hennessey, BPF, Norris & Jensen, they can't all play even in the cups or development fixtures, so at least one must surely be going out on loan, BPF seems to be the favourite for that gig.
Central defence sorted, keepers sorted, now for a RW, and maybe a creative CM, and if I'm being really greedy another striker.
Not a bad window thus far, and compared to last summer we're being positively spoilt, 2 in the building before the end of July.

Re: ARTICLE: Welsh international Hennessey signs for Clarets
Good move. Stronger no 2 and a recovery plan for BPF that presumably covers some of WH's salary. Could Billy Mercer teach him anything?
