Probably Tribesman who is your best bet, but best way to explain is 1 point between the uprights 3 for back of the net so if you score one goal and 10 over an between the uprights your score would read 3-10 = 13 points total and the ball is a puck you do not want to get in the way of as will take your head off, that's why they all wear helmets as well as to protect from getting hit over the head with a Hurl.

Kenneth Wolstenholme described it as his second-favourite sport after covering the 1959 All-Ireland Final for the BBC. A fantastically thrilling sport (once you’ve learnt the basic rules!)

As said above, 3 points for a goal in the net, 1 point if you get it over between the sticks. Passes can be made with the hurl (stick) or hand. Figuring out what’s a foul can be tricky for newcomers to the sport and experienced referees alike- it is brutal! 70 minute games, two 35 minute halves.

Today’s game is the semi-final of the All-Ireland Championship, an annual summer tournament and the one that matters. Both sides are hurling giants and Kilkenny the most successful hurling county of all time.

This game going to extra time- 29 points apiece after the 70 minutes.

5 pints blond witch, 3 bottles of red and a madras and I'm a world champion hurler. 😁

Decent explanation of the game, one thing the "ball" is called a Sliotar -(schlitter). A lot of my cousins in Ireland played it at local level in Co' Waterford back in the day, we went to watch them one year in Dungarvan absolutely brutal game then they all headed off to the pub.

Great days.

That's the one. About thirty five years ago I gave it a lash whilst on a trip over in Co. Sligo; just a pre-season training session/warm-up game with a couple of village sides (probably as low a level as you could find) and I was black'n'blue and absolutely knackered by the end of it. I'd thought that my rugby playing fitness and hockey playing experience would see me right, only to discover that I was badly mistaken, though I suspect being a Brit didn't help with a few; I did better/OK at the beer drinking and singing afterwards mind.

Don't know why I said puck (poc) is to stroke the ball ( Sliotar)   my daughter played for her school (Camogue) female version and got knocked out in the dying minutes of the under 12's county final, she still got her winners medal, but never played again, changed to soccer it was safer.

I watch a lot of games. The grand-daughter plays the female version, called Camogie, exactly the same rules.
I’m still amazed by the defenders catching the long ball with their left hand with the hurl in their right. Our cricketers can’t catch with two hands.

Had a go playing it in the late 60s in Co Wexford area. (Went to school there briefly)
Couldn't get the hang of it so, was pretty crap. Can be dangerous with players of my standard!

I recorded waterford's game which was the first semi final, but not the second being a waterford fan.
Played well until the drinks break in the first half, but then collapsed.
Playing limerick atm is like us playing man city.
I'm surprised that Cork made the final. They didn't look that great in the quarters. Lump on limerick to win the final.

And Limerick team nearly didn't make the match yesterday due a truck hitting a bridge and two bails of straw ended up all over the motorway and a couple of accidents and this happened on the road just outside Naas, where all the traffic from Limerick and Waterford met and the Limerick coach got stuck in the traffic jam, the radio phone lines were alive with happy campers

I think you may be right there!

Next weekend the Football semi finals are taking place so I'll be checking those out intermittently.

Eoin Morgan played and his batting technique is attributed to the skills learnt playing the game.

The technique is "back-handed" and as a result slot of right handed people who have played hurling end up playing golf left-handed.

When I was touring the Republic some years ago I went to a big game with 50,000 others and whilst it was real an all action game you won’t get me playing it for love nor money, brutal probably best describes it. :)

Never mind, tim. There's no great shame in being not clever enough to understand a game. After all, you're clever enough to get round the swear filter and make sure that people who want to protect the ears of children don't get away with it.

This is brilliant! So much going on your can't look away or you'll miss something. There's areal atmosphere in the stadium without endless repetition of same old boring chants so relied on in football!!

Well done to Limerick on a brilliant win today. They were by far the better team after the 1st 20 minutes. Cork tried hard but it was men against boys for long periods. Congratulations to all in Limerick from a Cork and Burnley supporter.
PS People in Galway know f all about hurling and even less about football.

Final tickets are very hard to get hold of. Semi finals are more available, but the atmosphere is just as good. Hoping Mayo break the curse in the coming weeks……. If you don’t know the story of the Mayo curse, google it, it’s pretty spooky.
