Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
Comments in the Athletic
“We love Sean to death. We want Sean to be here for a long time,” said Pace. “If it was up to me, I’d write a contract for 10 years, I don’t have a problem.”
“I am (relaxed), I was probably less relaxed when we came in, from a worrying perspective, I can be a little anxious and impatient, that's my nature — I’d like everything done yesterday.”
“It is still a priority, but I wouldn't put it as the number one priority — the window is for now,” said Pace.
“I don't think people understand it's not necessarily just documenting stuff and making it work, when you start talking about long periods of time but just think about when you're trying to get a mortgage, it's a little bit more difficult than renting a place for two weeks, and it's an Airbnb!
“We also have collectively identified there are other priorities, because we are very comfortable with one another, I think, and we have a good thing working together.”

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
I can't see anything wrong with that and seems to be a decent communication. He explains that they are aware of the anxiety around Dyche and his contract and the need to sort it out asap, however the priority is the transfer window and getting bodies in. Pretty much what I wanted to hear. I don't expect him to tell us who they are after or what the exact budget is, it's a communication which says they are on with it. Seems fair enough to me. Like everyone I am frustrated and really want to see quality coming into the FIRST TEAM, guess we have to be patient.

Quite rightly (in my opinion) sees the number one priority as this transfer window.
Hopefully there will be some positive news on that subject soon.

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
This is exactly what we need from AP. I suggested yesterday that he should communicate more with fans , on serious issues such as how we are faring on recruitment , particularly as he had personally months ago pledged support to SD. One or two on here quite quick to shoot me down. It just gives us that bit of hope for the future and helps retain that positivity

Good words, still doesn't mask over the glaring deficiencies in the playing squad of which ALK is entirely responsible.

They are responsible for four years worth of inadequate recruitment?

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
A good window will convince Dyche more to stay, the two go hand in hand.
Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
“Entirely responsible” is surely forgetting the previous windows that have left us short. Yes, we need signings now, but this in part is due to us not doing enough previously.

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
You can read it 3 ways. 1st it's just generic drivel and doesn't amount to anything. 2nd is that it's good he's placing the transfer window above it with priorities. 3rd it's bad that he's so relaxed and is trusting in Dyche when if things go tits up and he gets a good offer he'll be off with no compensation.

I'm concerned about the financial structure of the club and I struggle to see how we aren't worse off, but only time will tell.
But let's not misrepresent what Pace said. He didn't say he wouldn't be worried if we were relegated.
His words were something like: "it's important but not essential we stay in the PL."

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
Maybe Alan Pace is trying to portray the classic swan metaphor, calm and graceful on the surface whilst great activity is occurring out of sight. I hope this true but worry that his team have done more learning about the business than making realistic progress. I would also hope that he sees the seriousness of the situation and is not over relying on Dyche, for without meaningful progress I feel we are placing our premier league status in jeopardy.

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
Didn't Dyche do an interview last week saying that he has not had a thirst for leaving, despite being linked with vacant positions and that he is part way through the project at Burnley? Or words to that effect. Add to that AP being relaxed about the contract issue suggests there is not much to worry or moan about.superdimitri wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 3:38 amYou can read it 3 ways. 1st it's just generic drivel and doesn't amount to anything. 2nd is that it's good he's placing the transfer window above it with priorities. 3rd it's bad that he's so relaxed and is trusting in Dyche when if things go tits up and he gets a good offer he'll be off with no compensation.

But this is now, and not the future. Everything's fine and dandy pre season but a run of bad games and some squeaky bum time and that inevitable vacancy elsewhere will be more appealing. It happened with our last owners so it can certainly happen again.
Dyche will know it's in his benefit anyway since his job security is basically untouchable. If he doesn't sign anything then he'll know other clubs who want him won't be put off by the hefty compensation.
I personally feel positive, but I'm just illustrating there's lots of different ways you can interpret the comments.

Dyche is yet to be convinced these plans are coming to and therefore is ready to leave.
I think people underestimate how ambitious Dyche and his back room team are. They’re heavily invested in their careers.

He'd have gone from around £3.5 million per annum to zero. Not many are prepared to do that.

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
I think, like many managers, you plan for periods of inactivity.
Dyche knows his stock is high, he knows there’s going to be jobs coming up. He has a fallout position of no backing/funds.
Dyche has to move in the next season or two to take that next step. I think it’ll be Villa, Wolves or Leicester.

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
I think the article paints a pretty positive image of the the behind the scenes situation at the club. Everyone seems to be agreed in the club's direction.
I'd like to think we are going to spend the next few years really developing potential in younger players, to sell on and replace with more potential. That is what most of us have wanted the club to do. That kind of thing doesn't just happen overnight, they seem to be building new foundations for that to happen. I would imagine there has been a lot of discussion about what is/isn't working behind the scenes currently and AP has been proactive in freshening things up.
I am certain that we will see some fresh players arrive, but it will probably not happen until the end of the month, which is frustrating, but we know the limitations.
All of this goes out of the window if we get beat on Saturday!!

Since Dyche took over, only 2 teams in the top 5 English leagues haven't changed their manager at least once.
Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
I can't see Villa, Wolves or Leicester fans being happy with Dyche. A lot of fans of other teams think we play crap football which is why he'd struggle to get a better team now. Dyche has shown that he can win promotion and keep a side in the division. West Brom or Forest might be more likely destinations if he lets his contract run down but I'm not sure that scenario really fits with his ambitions.

Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
Spot on. I think he would already be gone if any of those clubs were an option. Certainly, I think Forest would be a huge pull for him, and clubs similar in size would be a draw too, however I do feel he would give it a thought only if we were relegated.dibraidio wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:19 amI can't see Villa, Wolves or Leicester fans being happy with Dyche. Re: Alan Pace relaxed on transfer window and Dyche contract
This just illustrates my point more. If he doesn't have much interest then (which I think he probably did actually) then running a contract low only opens up his options more. Clubs are not going to want to pay compensation like they would have had to when we finished higher and Dyche was under a longer contract.
That's why him signing now is important, because it makes sure if he does go we get some compensation.
