Ashley Barnes
Can we please never see him play for us again.
He is just embarrassing now. Hopeless.
Time to go Ashley...

Re: Ashley Barnes
yeah look at all the chances he missed because we created loads for him. What's he or anyone supposed to do when the ball is launched 20 ft over him ?

Always gives 100% it's a shame others today didnt. The service to Ash was awful
Re: Ashley Barnes
no mention of Rodriguez?
Re: Ashley Barnes
Barnes’s mediocre substitute display shouldn’t really be the takeaway from that second half performance. There’s much more to be concerned about in midfield, out wide and at full back.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Given that he was offered and signed an extended contract to the end of the 2022 season I doubt very much if Ashley has played his last game for us today.
Dyche is renowned for loyalty to his core group.

Will Bards and resigning Lenno offer a solution ? Plus Dale should be back before long. Options.

Been past it for three years, mind you, with the service from our midfield it's no surprise.

You can't really blame Barnes for our tactics after we bought subs on but he was definitely poor today. I wouldn't say he's done at this level.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Forget sentimentality the question is would he get in any other Premier league team or squad for that matter, the answer is a resounding no whereas Vydra would, Dyches I am never wrong mantra is becoming tedious and will cost us dearly.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Spot on.
We were struggling before he came on, and just what went through Dyche's mind to bring him on alongside Wood is beyond me. It effectively reduced us to 9 men since they were being offered nothing.
10 minutes before Barnes came on we needed to get Brownhill and Pieters on to replace our wide men, and try to get some possession.
Any change up front should have seen Vydra on to inject some pace.
I just can't imagine how Dyche thought we could regain any impetus in midfield by bringing Barnes on.

He isn't even a nuisance anymore.

Re: Ashley Barnes
He’s not, it was the wrong sub for sure I’d be more comfortable bringing Barnes on when a comfortable lead is established for drawing niggly fouls & generally just wasting time & running the clock down, today the game was finely poised & at 2-O the game is effectively over or you are more or less guaranteed a pt.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sat Aug 14, 2021 5:31 pmYou can't really blame Barnes for our tactics after we bought subs on but he was definitely poor today. Poor substitution by Dyche. It should have been Vydra on at that point not Barnes.

Poor today , made nothing happen. Ran around without any purpose .
Hope he is more effective next time he plays

Re: Ashley Barnes
To be fair he did put Wood through at one point with a great touch. Wood's shot was deflected for a corner.
Didn't do much else but had no service whatsoever.

Well the majority of posters on this thread would be no help at all in the dressing room. Get behind them, encourage them, show some support and positivity for a change, as disappointing as yesterday’s result was.

It’s Dyche who wants all these old cloggers constantly getting extensions.
Didn’t Mike refuse to give them to Hart etc and that’s why Dyche spat his dummy out?

Re: Ashley Barnes
On the "transfers" topic I read the rumour that we were looking at an approach for Kiefer Moore of Cardiff (the Welsh international) with Ashley going the other way. I really feel it would be better for Ashley to be in the Championship in fairness. Has been a great servant and played with his heart on his sleeve, but there has to be an acceptance that with age it becomes impossible to be effective in the PL

I hope not. Nothing fickle about it. He's been crap for ages, regardless of the great service he's given us over the years.

He would because he's not Welsh. That aside I wouldn't want Moore here.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:37 amExcept Barnes would struggle to get in the Welsh team, whereas Moore was a handful in the Euros. At best our 5th choice striker now

Re: Ashley Barnes
And literally all the "normal" posters jumping in. It's as though they see the result (not performance) then have a rant about anything. It does make this MB a miserable place, for sure and, unfortunately, is why I don't visit as much as I used to. Just a set of spoilt brats who think we should win every sodding game.
It's a shame as there are some good posters on here but they definitely seem to be outnumbered by the "fickle fannies".

Re: Ashley Barnes
Most posters on this thread more critical of Dyche for bringing him on alongside Wood and failing to reinforce midfield than they are of Barnes, (IMO).Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 9:51 amIt didn’t take long for Brady to be replaced by Barnes as the UTC boo boy.
No point having 2 big strikers and no service.

Give him some time to get his rhythm. He has missed lots of football.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Would love to know what the hell Dyche means by AB defending from the front well. Yesterday from what I saw, he won no headers, closed nobody down, had no change of pace (any pace), didn’t keep possession… I’m sure he’s watching other games at times.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I wanted to see Ash start, just because it was Brighton and he has a knack for upping his game against them. That said he did nothing after coming on, but as much as I would have started him, I definitely wouldn't have brought him on at that stage of the game. We had bigger issues at the back that Barnes could do sod all about.
Re: Ashley Barnes
Yep not really Barnes fault Sean made a major gaff. If he had brought brown hill in for jayrod and shored up an over run midfield we would have won 1.0
