Team v Liverpool
Dyche will play 4-4-2
I would suggest playing 2 fullbacks on each side !!
Pope
Bardsley-Tarkowski-Mee-Pieters
Lowton-Cork-Westwood-Taylor
McNeil
Vydra
Reasons for selections:
1. McNeil does not like to defend / is caught ball-watching
2. Taylor and Lowton both excellent at getting forward especially with defenders behind them.
3. Wood would get little change out of van Dijk so try and play round him with Vydra as a false 9 and McNeil in a free role (number 10)
4. If necessary replace McNeil with Brownhill

Re: Team v Liverpool
Think we have to go to a 5 midfield of JBG Westwood Cork Brownhill and McNeil -which we have done before, with Wood as the sole striker. Try and hold out for 70 minutes then bring on Vydra. I genuinely feel the team that started v Brighton could get a thumping and that would kill morale. Liverpool are back to full strength and looked rampant v Norwich

Re: Team v Liverpool
I suspect the only change might be Brownhill for Rodriguez.
While we are likely to lose we’ve had two good results there so shouldn’t be too frightened.

Re: Team v Liverpool
Wood will play. Despite his absolute abject performance against Brighton, he will play. He’s our best chance of a goal when he’s in the game and things are going well for him, but against Brighton he looked leggy and tired and the ball seemed to just bounce off him.
Very disappointed that SD took the opportunity to return Vydra back to the bench after the close season break…. I thought he’d done plenty last season to convince everyone him and wood were the best option up top.

Hardly difficult to figure out though is it?

The thread is about what team people on this messageboard would select rather than predicting Dyche's line-up.

Re: Team v Liverpool
I’ve seen this referenced a number of times, but I thought it was pretty much accepted that Vydra’s short pre-season was the reason why he didn’t start the season in the first 11. I didn’t think there was any way that Dyche would have started a front two who have both had minimal pre-season preparation with the squad.

Pope
Lowts -Tarky-Mee-Taylor
JBG-Brownhill-Westwood -Dwight
Jay Rod. Vydra
That of course will never happen but Jay and Vyds are our best forward for “ ball on the deck “ football and IMO the most likely to create something from nothing .
SD will almost certainly start with last Sat’s team

Re: Team v Liverpool
We need to give their defence something to think about which means starting Vydra. I expect he’ll start the same team. He probably thinks Jay Rod played a blinder.
Re: Team v Liverpool
We need to play 5-4-1 Against teams like Liverpool Man City Chelsea etc to play defensive and counter, we need to keep the score difference down because come the end of the season its like an extra point.
My team playing in a defensive 5-4-1 Would be
Pope
Lowton-Collins-Tarkowski-Mee-Taylor
Brownhill-Cork-Westwood-Mcneil
Wood

It's important that we defend from the front against Liverpool so don't be surprised to see Barnes start.

Barnes actually has a good record at Anfield, he's scored at least a couple there for us, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got the nod ahead of Jay or Vyds.

Although Dyche will play 4-4-2 so McNeil as a number 10 behind Wood (instead of Collins)
McNeil tends to ball watch when defending but defending as a number 10 might not be as problematic as defending from left midfield.

That actually sounds an interesting idea to try but we all know that Dyche is a stickler for a uniform selection/tactics so doubt very much if we will see your idea employed on the day.MT03ALG wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 3:53 pmDyche will play 4-4-2

The weather forecast for Saturday is for heavy rain throughout the day so mistakes by defenders could be fundamental to the result.
