Don’t let the locals hear you say Scilly Isles - it’s the Isles of Scilly - or you won’t get served

Re: Cornwall is apparently full?
Just to say, we had a great drive down. Took about 3 hours to Stonehenge from Chesterfield, then another 3 hours from there and hit no traffic at any point. I have to say, the opposite side of the road looked absolutely rammed the entire stretch of the A30 so I’m dreading coming back North for more reasons than just finishing our holiday!
Traffic on roads hasn’t been so bad and I used the park and ride for Newquay which I can’t recommend enough. Removes any stress and a bargain at £4 in total for a family return ticket that you can use all day. 15 minute bus ride each way.

Re: Cornwall is apparently full?
We’re staying in mid-Wales, but today spent the day on the west coast, walking north from Aberdyfi. It was absolutely glorious. The beaches were 100% sand; vast and impeccable. We spend a lot of time on Anglesey, but came here for a change. Obviously, further south towards Pembrokeshire, the beaches continue to be fantastic. As far as coastlines go, I bet the west coast of Wales takes some beating.
Dog loved it, too!

jd. It sounds really nice. Never thought of venturing that way but it’s definitely gone on the list. Your dog looked to be having a great time. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Yes when the weather is nice it is a lovely place to walk we have done a it few times, as it's in Wales of course you are seriously advised to listen carefully to the weather forecast before leaving homejdrobbo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 8:20 pmWe’re staying in mid-Wales, but today spent the day on the west coast, walking north from Aberdyfi. Re: Cornwall is apparently full?
The missus and I used to like weekends away in the north of England (the big cities, Harrogate, York and the Lakes etc).
I've not looked at a UK break since way before COVID. Trips into Europe have proved to be much better value. Poland is always a consideration. We have previously stayed in Krakow, Gdansk and Katowice. Krakow is a stunning city and I am looking at another 3 day trip in October. If you stay anywhere near the centre then all the attractions are within a 15 minute walk.
Prices:
Return flights with budget airline from Liverpool to Krakow - Out Friday AM and back Monday PM. £46.00pp.
Private airport transfer - both ways - £25.00.
3 Nights stay at top rated accommodation (apartment) in the Centre next to old town (via the popular B&B website) - £120.00.
Average price per pint of beer - £2.50. Although, there are a number of 'Herring & Vodka' bars dotted around town where a double vodka costs less than a quid and food is £2.00.
Restaurant and Bar prices are generally about 2/3rds of those in the UK.
Budapest is another city we would return to and Bratislava is another option.

It must take a special kind of bellend to rock up in Cornwall this year, during the summer peak season, without having pre-booked somewhere to stay.

Who’s done that?Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:15 pmIt must take a special kind of bellend to rock up in Cornwall this year, during the summer peak season, without having pre-booked somewhere to stay.
Been here since Friday and found the roads empty, the beaches unbelievable and the people delightful. Having a fantastic holiday in endless sunshine and a consistent 20-25 degrees. Even ventured into St Ives this morning using the park and ride from St Erth train station, highly recommended as opposed to trying to park. A very scenic 10 minute train ride along the coast through Carbis Bay etc.
Kynance Cove has to be the best beach I have ever been on.

It's in the BBC link. The head of Visit Cornwall is asking people not to visit the county unless they have accommodation booked, and to have a lateral flow test before they set off.

The head of Visit Cornwall (presuming its still Malcolm Bellend) is a self promoting posturing fatcat... A master at worming his way into gravy train jobs on every dubious quango with a lucrative non-job going begging.
Personally I couldn't give a Sherman what he says.

Re: Cornwall is apparently full?
I must admit that apart from football and gigs, I have a natural aversion to crowds. The crowded streets of places like HB and St. Ives, during the school summer break, were an anathema to me in pre-covid times.
Re: Cornwall is apparently full?
Going in 3 weeks, we go twice a year, obviously didn’t go last year. And my wife’s favourite beach ever is Kynance.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 6:14 pmWho’s done that?
