Welcome Mr Cornet!
Marquee signing.
Though concerned by some comments on twitter by some Lyon fans, they weren't the most complimentary

Good to see we’ve actually made a signing of a decent right sided quality player . Let’s hope we can get another over the line now and make a real impact on the squad

Well done to all involved in making this happen. It’s been a long time since I’ve been as excited about a signing as this one. Welcome to Burnley Maxwel! Just don’t be offended if we constantly mispronounce your name
By my reckoning, Cornet has scored the same number of goals against Man City as the entire Burnley squad put together! Cornet has 4 goals in 3 matches, compared to 4 for the rest of the Burnley squad (Barnes 2, Mee 1, Gudmundsson 1)

Another big Welcome from me Maxwell.
Lyons are a big team and this is the type of ambition we were hoping to see from the Americans.
If the player has a sense of humour hopefully he will be a Frenchman who doesn’t need other Frenchman around him to feel settled.

Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
I wouldn't worry about that. Lyon were playing in the Champions League semi final last year and have France and Brazil internationals in their squad. They're operating at a different level.Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 11:45 amThough concerned by some comments on twitter by some Lyon fans, they weren't the most complimentary

Squad number 20,.
Nixon first mentioned our interest on 11 July, spot on again.

Will Maxwell Cornet now play alongside Chris Woods and perhaps against Jeff Hendricks?

Looks the right kind of player for us, young, technically good with pace. A couple more like this will fill us all with more confidence.

Good question. We don't need a left back and if he's playing left wing then what's happening to McNeil?

He’ll play as an inverted winger on the right primarily. That’s where his best work for Lyon was done by all accounts.

Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
Right wing. He definitely won’t play left back. McNeil I think will stay so we’ll have those two on the wings unless dyche goes back to midfield 5 with McNeil central. Very versatile player - good for us.

Welcome to Burnley Maxwell.
In what appears to be the most exciting signing in the last few seasons it may be a signal that A Pace knows what he is doing and is doing it with the co operation of SD.
A Young was undoubtedly a SD target whom we almost signed and I would think M C is an A Pace target.

Fair enough. If he plays there it would make sense, given JBG's injury record.BurnleyPaul wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 12:17 pmJohan Berg Gudmundsson…

Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
I like the sound of this from Lyon fan:
“Cornet, I do not see which team would want to recruit him as a left-back, he is simply disastrous. It was only the fad of Garcia who had done the same thing with another player at OM and he forgot to start again, except that it does not work at all with Cornet.
Cornet is a decent winger and since he was placed on the left side we have completely destroyed his market value. Garcia did us neither sportingly nor financially.”
Suggests he’d be worth a lot more if he played on the wing. Also a “decent winger” for them is bloody incredible for us.

Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
Obviously bought to play on the right wing to replace JBG who is forever injured with little pace. If this lad as the ability to open up defences it will take pressure of McNeil and give the opposition more to think about than marking McNeil out of the game, our only playmaker

Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
Happy to see we've finally got this one over the line, I know the signs were positive in the last few days, but until it's actually signed and sealed as a Burnley fan you always have that shred of doubt that another club might have came in at the 11th hour to snatch Cornet.
It's turning into a fairly decent window now, Collins, Cornet Hennessey & Lennon. And the arrival of this quartet will ensure we're stronger in many areas notably central defence and right wing.
Well done to all involved, especially Pace, I had my doubts over recent weeks, but this is a real signing of intent that we aren't just in this league to make the numbers up.
Exciting times.

I’ve avoided watching any of the YouTube video’s up to now just in case, but now I will allow myself to be excited. Really demonstrates Alan Pace and his Latter-day Clarets are now stealing the ship into deeper waters ready to make their journey truly begin.

It shows how over priced UK based players are, he's only our 3rd record signing, but is 24, and has champions League experience.

Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
This guy's going places, hopefully with us for a long time. Anyway, with him on a 5 year contract, we can cash in when (not if) "other places" wants him. Welcome to Burnley Monsieur Cornet! UTC
Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
Lets not get ahead of ourselves eh, see if he is as good if not better as his YT promise shall we.
Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
I just hope with new signings like Cornet, Dyche changes our style of play a bit rather than just turning Cornet into a defensive winger.
Re: ARTICLE: A Claret Cornet
If he is as good as the build up then we are on a winner. Just wonder why Lyon have sold him unless they need the cash. Looking forward to seeing him play
