Have said it many times-we need a fox in the box or predator, not another target man. Just look at the cumulative goals scored by Rodriguez, Vydra and Barnes in the PL last season. Its 12 between themSomethingfishy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:36 pmAll the worrying over the strengthening of the wings and centre of defence and now we are starting to look worryingly light up front. Wood apart do any of the other three offer much of a threat at this level anymore? Barnes wasn't too bad today but he offers little and more often than not these days looks clumsy. Vydra has the ability but seems to have a bit of an attitude/confidence issue and seemingly can't be relied on. Jayrod is going through a dreadful spell (given the chance)and his stats make for bad reading.
Anyone else think we are in need of something different up front?

And that unfortunately is simply down to the manager. He changes players but never systems and we just continue to give teams the chance to score through midfield spaces.Belgianclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:06 pmSame old predictable story, scoring once and waiting for the opposition to score…
For all the good he has done over the years he is still yet to learn how to see out a game tactically consistently.
Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
Cork for Barnes and Lennon for JBG would have at least seen us able to cope better with the possession we surrendered

Always disappointing immediately after the game to not pick up 3 points when being ahead so close to the end.
A good point after losing the first 2 games. There’s a lot right with this Burnley team

Fairly normal at this level for clubs to struggle to see out games though.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:49 pmAnd that unfortunately is simply down to the manager. He changes players but never systems and we just continue to give teams the chance to score through midfield spaces.

If we could all see out games consistently the PL would be very different.

Well I enjoyed it, despite the equaliser and would like to cast a vote for the referee as 'man of the match'?
He certainly took the new 'let the game flow/allow a bit of contact' idea to heart; it would've been very easy to have sent at least one player off in that game and ruined it.

Agree, thought the ref had a good game.
Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
Very surprised we got a decent referee vs them. A few years ago I think we had one from York! Who was as biassed as they come. And then we had the nutter last season.

Wasn't Pope just one game away from getting the most clean sheets in a season just a couple of years ago. It's only last season and the start of this where we've struggled to see out games

We've set a new record for not winning at home. We're conceding goals and losing leads and losing games in exactly the same way now for months.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:53 pmFairly normal at this level for clubs to struggle to see out games though.

Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
couldnt care less about a couple of seasons ago, it's irrelevant. We're talking about the last 12 months, last season and this. And we're losing the same sort of goals, breaks through the midfield. Something is wrong somewhere. Get it shored up. Maintain ball possession. If they haven't got it then they can't score. With 10 mins to go leading and clearly wanting to hold onto the lead, we shouldnt be changing like for like up top. It's ludicrous.

I was baffled by Vydra when he came on. As much as Barnes needed taking off, he was still more us when tired than a fresh Vydra was, and I was hoping for that exact change earlier than it actually happened. Very strange indeed from VydraVegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 3:55 pmI'm a huge Vydra fan but I've no idea what that was about from him, appalling effort and it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's the last we see of him - Dyche was raging at him

That wasn't a bad performance at all, we really nullified Leeds until the end and once again we were just lacking that depth of options on the bench. I am more optimistic now, especially as we are adding to the squad steadily again. My only concern is we look weak on the right hand side. We will be fine.

Have yourself a look at the BBC Sport ratings for the game…every Leeds player including the subs have got higher ratings than the highest rating Burnley player. It’s embarrassing the Leeds love in in the written and spoken press

The facts are there for all to see. Some people will blame COVID and the lack of crowds but that is the same for all teams
No coincidence that our suspect form coincides with a squad that just gets older and slower with every game
Cornet may change the wide right shortfall but that's not the only area for concern

Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
After we scored if we continued to do what we’d done up to that point we’d of got 3pts. Yet again though we score and we retreat 10-15yrd deeper and start hitting long hopeful balls. We had it under control.
Could of seen us scoring a second but we just revert to a deeper line and long balls.

Just been discussing the same. Unbelievable. Bamford man of the match? I was asked whether I was wearing my claret tinted specs but I’m so miserably pessimistic I can’t have been. I must have been watching a different game.Leyland Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:13 pmHave yourself a look at the BBC Sport ratings for the game…every Leeds player including the subs have got higher ratings than the highest rating Burnley player. Aren't they scored by people voting rather than the press? In which case it's hardly surprising that the bigger supported club gets higher ratings.Leyland Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:13 pmHave yourself a look at the BBC Sport ratings for the game…every Leeds player including the subs have got higher ratings than the highest rating Burnley player. We're always going to be a team of fine margins. We were nearly there with the 3 points today, but one went against us.
We also didn't create anything really, and the goal went for us. Leeds still a good side and 1-1 is a descent result

Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
We battled well today but
Struggled to pass it to each other
didn't want the ball enough
I can't remember the last time Barnes put us in a better position with a pass than we were?
We can't keep the ball out for 90 minutes anymore, the Centre backs struggle to block everything like they have for years.
Struggled for quality in the final 3rd.
We prepare for hours on fine details and tactics but seem to rely on the luck of a bouncing ball.
Hopefully we can go 451 and the 3 footballers in Dwight, Cornet and JGB can all combine and be creative?

Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
There were 30/35 mins 1st half where Leeds could barely get the ball we really should have converted our possession . Leeds were no more than mediocre ,but for Taylor’s unlucky slip we should have seen that game out . With Cornet and hopefully more on the way there’s reason for cautious optimism .

Good god there are some right worriers on here. Yes it's disappointing but they got a huge slice of luck for the equaliser. We've a new 1st rteamer joining who will help balance us more and we will push on. Not worried at all

Don't think too many are panicking after today. We're improving, working better as a team and look at peak sharpness. But there are some lessons that aren't being learnt and we can't win at home.

What heads have we lost?
We're setting records right now for no red cards, so I'd suggest no heads have been lost.
Could be far worse, we could have zero goals for after 3 games like Wolves and Arsenal.

Re: Burnley-Leeds-match thread
We did fine. With Cornet plus one or two other additions we will hold our own this season. The only thing that worried me was the extent we were looking to test the new ‘lenient’ approach to refereeing, Our style under Dyche has been ‘firm but fair’ (viz our sendings off record) but I saw some reckless challenges today which we don’t need to do
