England vs India - 4th Test

Post by dandeclaret » Thu Sep 02, 2021 10:44 am

England win the toss and elect to bowl.... Pope and Woakes in for Buttler and Curran. Cymbals keeps wicket.

Root & Kohli 30+ Runs Each, Bumrah & Anderson 2+ Wkts Each, Pant & Bairstow 1 Catch Each - All 1st Inns

Bairstow will probably let this bet down :D

Certainly strengthens the side for me.

Woakes is a fabulous cricketer if fully fit, might need a bit of time to settle in though. Curran not up to this level unfortunately.
Buttler has been very good with the gloves but still hasn't worked out what tempo to bat at.
Pope is a decent bat and good in short fielder.

Buttler wouldn't have played anyway, he's awaiting the birth of his 2nd child. I'm glad Pope & Woakes have returned.

Interesting decision by Root to insert, however there is overcast conditions, so it should swing, but I doubt we'll roll them out for 78 today.

Steady start by India's openers, 17-0 after 5.

That's why Woakes has been recalled, he can make things happen when it's starting to drift, 1 over 1 wicket is a pretty decent contribution.

A wicket for the stattos there.

They reckon after 4 maidens in a row it's very likely a wicket will come.

We have nearly had 7 maidens and bang.

That shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody, in English conditions he's got a great record with bat and particularly ball.

50 for Kohli, we could do with seeing the back of him soon.

That'll do nicely, Robinson has impressed again, and if the Ashes does happen in the winter, he's surely got to be on the plane. :D with this England bowling display again, now let's just make sure we knock them over for less than 200, then our batters can hopefully pile on the runs once more.

Well we'll need someone to take the reins when Jimmy finally retires, and on his recent performances Ollie could be the man, it tells you a lot that he's being trusted with the new ball along with Anderson.

Wickets shared between all 4 seamers, that has to pleasing from an England perspective.

122/6 at tea, and England may yet be batting this evening.

It's great that they've maintained the momentum from Headingley, and the bowlers have set this test up perfectly thus far.

Thakur launching a counter attack, and his positive approach is paying dividends, 150 up for India.

Good to see a few runs being hit.

We don't want it too bowler friendly.

This is a brilliant watch, however we dont want this Bairstow drop to cost us too much more here.

That was quite a routine catch.

That's 3 drops today.

Bairstow spills an absolute dolly...... Sort of catch a 3rd former in a school game would be expected to take comfortably.

Fastest ever Test 50 at the Oval off 32 balls. Some great shots in there.

He would make a cracking league pro.

Cleaned it up quickly there after the Thakur fireworks.

Hopefully with decent batting conditions we can get off to a solid start with no cheap wickets going down, and put more pressure on India.

Good day for England with the ball, but this could prove a tricky last session for the batsman.

4 wickets for Woakes, and the 3 for Robinson, but 4 catches put down is disappointing to say the least.

Hameed looks so nervous at the crease
Most batters are uncomfortable until they get into double figures but he looks worse than a nightwatchman before he's played quite a few good shots

Malan and Root settling things down hopefully, and runs coming a lot easier now, 34-2 and it's crucial we don't lose any more wickets tonight.

A cut shot. That bounced an inch and half higher than he thought it would.

In cricket, we are used to batsman getting stick every time they are out. But Hameed hasn't got many scoring shots and the cut looks like one.
Shall we tell him not to play any attacking shots?

I know it's not just you that is questioning the shot.
