Notts v Lancs

Post by tiger76 » Sun Sep 05, 2021 2:30 pm

Notts 155-2 after being put into bat, fifties for Duckett & Northeast, a wicket apiece for Bailey & Lamb.

165-3 , Bailey getting the big scalp of Northeast. And Bailey has been the standout for Lancs, Mahmood has gone round the park, 0-62 and going at nearly 5 an over.

Good fightback by Lancs, 260-9, Lamb with 4, Bailey 3, and 1 apiece for Balderson & Wells. To put it into perspective Notts were 211-3 at one stage.

272 all out, Bailey gets his 4th, good return that after Notts were going well mid-afternoon.

A terrible start to the morning for Lancs, Balderson, Bohannon and Lamb all dismissed, 82-5 and still 190 behind.

The cricket season appears to be fizzling out for Lanky and England. I hope at least one of them proves me wrong

I'd say a committed batsmen with something to prove would be better than an outgoing player who has thrown his towel in

168 all out, and Notts already 21-0 2nd dig, lead of 125.

It's turning into a thoroughly depressing day to be a Lancs & England cricket fan.

On Davies we might as well give one of the youngsters a game or two and see if they can perform at this level, season is effectively over anyway as regards winning the CC, so plan ahead for next season while we have the chance.

Notts 85-3. lead of 189, wicket for Bailey, Balderson & Lamb, not that it really matters, they've probably already got enough.

This pair have completely taken the chance of a Lancashire win out of the equation, now it's just a matter of whether we bowl Notts out, or whether they declare sometime this afternoon I guess.

Leads already nearly 300, and I can't see Lancs getting anywhere close in the 4th innings.

Was amazed that Croft and Wells were kept out of the attack for so long , the other 3 never looked good enough to get a breakthrough
The 800 ( guess) spectators treated to over 100 runs in the 2 hours play to lunch
Expect Lancs to be chasing 400

Notts away at Hampshire next and then entertain the White Rose next
May get down to one of those days if weather ok

Lead over 350 now
Chappell talking to Vilas as the players came back after lunch, don’t think his plan is working
These two set for a ton each and a lead near 450
Partnership now 150

I don't know who's worse right now, Lancs or England, both seemingly struggling with bat and ball.

Partnership now 173, and both closing in on 100's.

Lancs will do well to even sneak a draw from this game, the win has long bitten the dust.

At last Moors gone caught on the boundary for 97
County Cricket is poor now and I think Lancashire have been winning matches against poor opposition ( no better than amateurs on the Local leagues
These two Nottingham batsmen would not reach double figures against India’s pace attack but tearing the awful Lancashire bowlers apart
As I have inferred earlier Lancashire need to recruit some players from outside the club for next season

CC is on it's knees right now, and sadly I can't see it improving anytime soon, all the emphasis is now on the white ball game, and this 100 format farce won't help in this respect.

Is it any wonder England are being made to look hapless whenever they face a top side in the test match arena, when the standard throughout the circuit is of such a poor quality.

Lancs need to do something otherwise next season will be just as mediocre as the current one.

Be a big miss will Davies apparently

Certainly wouldn't have been in this game out for a duck twice.

Davies has barely scored a run since his move was announced, clearly he's got his mind on next season, he actually started the summer fairly well, but it's steadily got worse over the past couple of months.

Be interesting if he's selected in our next game won't it.

Lancs making a better fist of the 2nd innings, 84-1 Wells and Balderson building a nice partnership, they've already put on 79, only the small matter of 360 to win now.

Decent display this afternoon and evening by Lancs, 115-1 at the close, Wells 57, Balderson 45.

Sill a mountain to climb tomorrow though, 329 more to win.

Wells gone for 59, 122-2. Balderson just reached his 50, far better with the bat 2nd innings, sadly it's probably after the horse has bolted.

Lancs still batting, but probably not for much longer, 230-8 Lamb & Bailey just delaying the inevitable.

Well Lancs have made it to tea at least, 235-8, Lamb & Bailey have so far added 25 for the final wicket.

Up to 266/8 but if Saqib isn't there then the end is close.

Davies mentioned up the thread. He's making no contribution now, I wouldn't play him again.

Kudos to Lamb & Bailey they're at least making Notts work for this win.

315-8, and both now have 50's to their name, this 9th wicket stand just shows what a good track this still is, and how poorly Lancs middle order have played yet again.

Partnership now over 100 as well.

Bailey now out for a fine 52, 318-9, and apparently Mahmood has come to the crease. Given Lancs still need another 122 it seems a futile exercise for him to be batting if he's got a knock of any description.

He didn't bowl in Notts 2nd innings though, so he's clearly got something that troubling him.

He may not even have played at Taunton anyway, isn't that more known as a spinning deck.

Decent effort in the circumstances, but this match was lost long before day 4.

Still good to see a few of the batsman make a score, and give Lancs some respectability in the end.
