ABBA - I still have faith in you

Post by ClaretTony » Sun Sep 05, 2021 5:39 pm

I didn’t think this would ever happen but a new album and tour coming from ABBA along with the first single.

Love them or loathe them or anywhere in between, for a few years in the 1970s you simply couldn’t ignore them.

Yes I'm got mixed emotions about this reunion, I only really discovered ABBA in the early 90's after Erasure scored a number one with a cover LP.

Not sure about the avatar tour, that's feels somewhat hollow to me, but it's great that they're finally releasing new material after a 40 year hiatus.

Tough to pick a fav track, but if pushed I'd opt for this one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFrGuyw1V8s :)

Fantastic.

My favourite song is ‘Lay all your love on me’ but I think ‘The Day Before you Came’ is musical genius.

I saw Erasure perform their ABBA songs live and the place just erupted.

I’m no musician but I’ve heard said many times from those who are how clever ABBA songs are and how difficult they are to sing.

Two singles in the top 10, inc 2nd but beaten to the Number 1 spot by Elton John ...who collaborated with Dua Lipa..

Never thought I'd hear that tbh

Quite a hiatus between when they finished and now. Wonder what people are expecting?

Bowie was such an innovator I thought he would have had a virtual show for us before he, sadly, departed.

I also got them today. If you pre-ordered the cd via ticketmaster site before 4th Sept they gave you a code to buy from today. We are going 11/6 and not many seats left now on that date.Good job I booked today. Not cheap.Siiting facing stage were about £165,seats to side £117 and standing I think F75.Think there were some cheaper to side higher up than the £117.

General admission for the show was £70 and some seats were £53. Some booths and packages more. Holograms are of their younger selves by the way.

Whether you like them or not a number of great artists reference their ability to make almost perfect pop music. No real doubt that they were the best pop artists of the mid 70s to early 80s irrespective of personal music tastes. The winner takes it all takes some beating given the relationship issues at the time and the poignancy of the video.

Fave song probably Fernando. Winner Takes it All and Man after midnight, also very good. Although not sure why people would pay to go to a gig that Abba won't physically be attending.

My favourite song is the one that Pierce Brosnan sang with Meryl Streep. SOS very apt. 😄

Can't argue with that. Supremely talented writers ahead of their time. Winner Takes It All always brings a lump to my throat. Very poignant.
I don't have favourite bands, rather favourite songs and there'd be a few songs from Abba in my all time favourite list before a number of 'bigger' 'popular' bands down the years.

As a small child I was apparently a big Abba fan. I do remember getting an annual when i was about 5. I remember there being a photo of Bjorn and Agnetha with their baby son in it. My parents had the album "Arrival" on cassette and my mum played it a lot.

The whole "Mamma Mia" musical thing completely spoilt it for me though. Incredibly cheesy. Dreadful stuff.

Of the new releases I prefer "Don't Shut Me Down"

Not seen them, nor do I want to but have to admit though, it may have played a part in their return. Possibly.

No may about it. It has kept them relevant and it has showcased their music to a whole new generation that otherwise would have undoubtedly turned their noses up at it if it hadn't been done in a musical style.

The holograms look pretty good ! ABBA had to perform the whole show in those movement capture suits to get it right. It’s going to be a tourist attraction but the technology used could just explode into all sorts of things. What about schools with the best teachers in the world teaching as a hologram ?

Wish we had that technology when I was a kid. Our Maths teacher 'Mr Nutter' was bloody brilliant. Proper disciplinarian but a good teacher, surprised to hear he went on the be a Lib Dem MP (SDP maybe can't remember when they switched) as he didn't come across as a liberal in class
Or Mr Frankland for comedic effect. Mr Hewson for easily diverting him away from Physics and spending the entre lesson talking about Burnley's glory years, which we did often to the chagrin of Rovers fans in class.

Not listened to their new songs yet, although I walked into the shop earlier today and heard a song that I thought sounded like Steps, so that might be one of Abba's new tunes. It was catchy and the main chorus started with, "I.....". That's all I remember.

Think it’s great they’ve made a long overdue come back ( sort of). Very talented musicians and iconic whether it’s to individuals taste or not. Remind me of growing up in that era which was a very wholesome time to grow up. No social media, people being taken on face value, musicians with talent, less fakeness and so on. Fond memories.
