West Ham: Club unveil statue in honour of 1965 European Cup Winners' Cup win
Not a bad trio Hurst, Moore and Peters were they,https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58738403
If you had to select 3 Burnley players to be honoured in a statue who would you choose.
Jimmy McIlroy is an obvious one.
Bert Freeman is our only ever player to score the winner in an FA Cup final.
Trevor Meredith netted the vital winner at Maine Road in 1960.
So arguably those 3 have a strong claim to be honoured in such a manner.
But equally the likes of George Beel & Jerry Dawson also have strong reasons to be immortalised in Burnley history.
Tough to narrow it down, but I'd opt for Beel, Dawson & Jimmy Mcllroy. One our record goal scorer, the 2nd our record for most appearances, and the 3rd probably our most famous player ever to don the famous Claret & Blue.

The legend that is Tommy Boyle would have to be first pick, the only Burnley player to captain an FA Cup winning side before leading us to the First Division title in 1920/21. That season also included a record 30 game unbeaten run for the Clarets.
Next, without doubt, the great Jimmy McIlroy, the finest player I've seen wearing our Claret shirt. Then probably Jerry Dawson who played a record 569 games in goal for us.

Sure John Bond was in that team… we could get a statue of him.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 7:42 pmNot a bad trio Hurst, Moore and Peters were they,https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58738403

My first thought but this is the one that was at the Boleyn Ground.

The original statue is being left in place near their old ground at Upton Park.
This is a new statue at their new stadium.

Nearly 98,000 at the final at Wembley. Do any older.fans remember the unsung hero who scored two goals in two minutes for West Ham to win the final?

It was Alan Sealey, a player they got from Leyton Orient with Dave Dunmore going the other way. The same Dave Dunmore who caused us a problem or two in the 4th round of the FA Cup in 1962, especially in the replay at Brisbane Rd.

Didn't the pub sign on the Turf Moor Hotel have a picture of Tommy Boyle? The last time I was there the place seemed to be a kebab house I think. Can anyone enlighten me on what happened to the sign? I know its not a statue but a decent tribute all the sameRoyboyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 8:54 pmThe legend that is Tommy Boyle would have to be first pick, the only Burnley player to captain an FA Cup winning side before leading us to the First Division title in 1920/21.
