And, from the same era,
The Doors "When The Music's Over" fantastic live!
Was asked why I liked the Doors so much when I was a kid ... I pointed out my Brother who was 8 years older and thats what he listened to. So I wanted to listen to the same stuff ... and also I inherited a load of stuff when he went off to College (Sci Fi books and Rock Music 🙂)

Got into The Doors as a student.
Someone had an import version of Morrison Hotel, my mates and I were blown away by it.

Love to play, but limiting to 60’s and 70’s means I’m out I’m afraid.

Tried a couple of these tho… enjoy a long song if it’s a good un.

Yep and absolutely love the YouTube vid of them doing French Disko live on The Word - especially the keyboard player!! Saw them at Blackpool Empress Ballroom back in '95

Although none of the tracks are long enough to count this post has reminded me what a wonderful album "the rescue" is by the same band.

Was thinking again about great long tracks this morning and would (perhaps somewhat controversially) suggest Runaway by Kanye West as a great example.

I hope this will be a music thread with a difference. I want to hear the longer rock tracks from bands, mostly I guess from the musically fertile period of mid 1960s to mid 70s.

In this timespan new recording techniques and electronics, new or refined instruments, record companies willing to take risks and young talented individuals, perhaps helped by drugs and not restricted by having to have hit singles etc. but purely interested in music, led to an explosion of musical innovation, crossing genre boundaries of for example classical and jazz.

The only obvious limitations was the vinyl format, leading to a maximum recording of around twenty five minutes for one side. Of course live they could do any length.

The first track I offer is Pink Floyd - Echoes from their Meddle album:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBca3xf-j3o

This track starts with around eleven minutes of music, then three of ‘wierdness’ leading gently into more music. Some Floyd fans think this is the finest thing they’ve ever done. I think they’re nearly right! It's a fine achievement from four young lads.

To sum up, I don’t want hit singles on here but long album tracks. How long is ‘long’? I don’t know. It can be any genre from Floyd’s ‘prog rock’ to Taste/Rory Gallagher’s million notes a minute guitar stuff.
Echoes is one of my favourite tracks ever and is even better live. Unfortunately Gilmour has said he will never play it again because he feels no other keyboard player can get the feel that the dearly departed Rick Wright could.
Fabulous stuff.

Love this but many fans are luke warm. Also off this album…Summer 68 by Rick Wright. Beautiful piece with a stunning brass section near the end.
