Friend killed it with his stop/start reffing and heavily weighted 50/50s towards Norwich. We were not incisive enough with tons of possession but looked like we should have had a minimum of one pen from my vantage point in the Jimmy Mac Upper.

Brownhill was our best player and the main positive was that Collins look very comfortable and played well.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 5:12 pmPope 5

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Pope 6 Good save with the only shot but his kicking is appalling
Lowton 4 Good grief
Tarky 7 Good but he makes me wince when he keeps doing his Beckenbauer turns!
Collins 7 Good Premier League debut
Taylor 6 A lot more attacking intent but his crossings still not great
Lennon 4 I think I’m generous with a 4
Westwood 5 His saving grace was always his dead balls but they’ve deserted him
Brownhill 5 Runs around a lot..the end
McNeil 7 Thought he played well today and tried to influence the game
Wood 5 Needs a goal to spark him
Vydra 6 I do like his energy but lacks a bit of quality. Shame he went off though
Jay R 6 Some good movement but lacks pace and wasn’t given any service
JBG 6 Thought he did OK and better than the player he replaced but that wasn’t hard

Pope 6 poor kicking but nothing much to do
Lowton 5 sloppy
Tarkowski 7
Collins 8 looked very good
Taylor 5 crossing abysmal
Lennon 4 very quiet
Westwood 6
Brownhill 7 good, but restricted again after the booking
McNeil 4 very poor IMO today, lost it a lot, chose the wrong option far too often and looked to miss a sitter too
Vydra 6
Wood 4 an extremely poor game, his first touch was appalling at times
Sadly today's game wouod have been out of place in the championship, it was diabolical.
We looked extremely poor, zero ideas, no intensity, and kept banging away at the same drum hooing for a different results.
I doubt Krul will have an easier 90 minutes all season.
Think I could have kept goal for Norwich today, and that's not even a joke.
We look disinterested in playing any actual football.

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Pope 6 - would have been a 7 but for that kick. Luckily Collins and Tarks bailed him out but we would have lost against more ruthless opposition.
Lowton 6 - not a lot wrong but his delivery could have been better at times and perhaps could have scored at the end...
Collins 7 - very solid, reminds me a little of Michael Keane. Good in the air, comfortable on the ball and reads the game well. Occasionally struggles with quick movement around him but looks a good buy to me....
Tarkowski 6 - a really poor start and not at his most comfortable on the left but improved in a big way and looked to have a good understanding with Collins.
Taylor 6 - powerful running and solid defensively but we really need him to take advantage of some of the positions he finds himself in. His delivery is very predictable unfortunately and pretty ineffective.
Lennon 5 - one good cross in the first half which was crying out for someone to be on the end of. Otherwise I was constantly wondering where he was. Rightly taken off a 5 is probably a little kind..
Brownhill 7 - thought he had a good game, becoming more adventurous with his passing and worked hard as ever.
Westwood 7 - another to have a decent game.
McNeil 7 - played well and did show quality at times but we really need him to start contributing goals and assists.
Wood 5 - largely uninvolved and pretty poor when he was. A 5 is probably a bit kind..
Vydra 6 - should have a penalty, you cant punch someone in the head, especially as late as it was. His movement was giving them a lot to think about. Not sure how we didnt get a couple.of corners when Hanley was really struggling with him.
Some reasonable play in pieces and we got into some.excellent positions but Lennon, Barnes and Brownhill should all have done much better when well positioned. (I didnt see the McNeil chance). Vydras movement was causing them a lot of problems and I think had he stayed on it would have really began to tell. How he didnt get a penalty I dont know.
A clean sheet and a point at least but it is concerning we cant see these sort of teams off. In previous seasons we would have been 4 to 6 points better off now, we are going to have to learn/remember to grind some wins out and quickly.

Agree with that, that was Brownhills best game for us, he was everywhere. Scoring him 5 or lower is clearly biased hatred nonsense

We've drawn a blank against a side that's recently been shipping goals and will likely go down.
Very disappointing.

Think it's going to be a tough season.

We just do not look like scoring and have no quality in the final third. Could have done with Cornet today. Difficult to see where any wins are coming from. We don’t look like like we could beat anyone in the PL at the moment. At least Dyche is under no pressure to deliver unlike Steve Bruce.

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Brownhill looked to run in dangerous areas, pass and move, advance the team up the field. I thought Westwood looked to smash it into the channels and give the ball back to Norwich. Zero composure from Westwood, zero tempo setting. Brownhill drifted into positions, looked to get on the ball and kept it moving forward.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 5:37 pmYou rated Westwood a 3? They had an identical performance
Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Pope 6 - kicking is shocking other than that was good
Lowton 6 - wasn’t really the outlet we needed
Collins 7 - solid Prem debut
Tarkowski 7 - comfortable
Taylor 5 - really poor crossing
Lennon 6 - shocking final ball and just about what I’d expected from this signing
Westwood 5 - when he’s our main creative player it’s concerning
Brownhill 8 * - best game for us, only midfielder who looked to take a man on, push into the box and do something to disrupt their defence
McNeil 6 - he looked sooo one footed today
Vydra 7 - shame he went off as at least he gets us into dangerous areas / in behind (should have had a pen from Krul and fk from Hanley’s trip)
Wood 4 - such a bizarre player, goes through patches where his second touch is a tackle / looks like a statue with his movement then patches of prime Ronaldo
Jay 5 - struggled to get in the game…?

Westwood scores well on here because fans love running and booting it in the air, they don't know any better.

I don’t agree, we were playing a team that have conceded 16 in 5 games. Yet both of our CMs managed to create one chance in 90 mins.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 5:44 pmBrownhill looked to run in dangerous areas, pass and move, advance the team up the field. The whole team were awful I don’t understand how any player can get above a 6 against them donkeys
Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Just because it was a poor result and overall performance it doesn't mean every player underperformed. You have given Brownhill and Collins a 4 - that's a joke and unsurprisingly clueless.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 5:49 pmI don’t agree, we were playing a team that have conceded 16 in 5 games. Ok if you think they performed well that’s your opinion, I thought they were all dross.
I will be surprised if we score 30 goals and get 35 points this season.

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
If you (Newcastleclaret93) think Collins and, especially, Brownhill deserved 4s today it's helpful as it confirms you either don't watch the games or else you do but have absolutely no understanding of football.....or maybe only slightly more than Boysie who I see rated Brownhill 3.

Taylor 5....got into some great positions but didn't deliver the right ball or tried to cross too early

Jay 5
JBG 5
Other than Vydra running in behind early on our strikers were easily controlled by Norwich;s 3 CB. Once again our crossing was poor time and time again.

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
He was constantly looking to slide passes into our strikers who, unfortunately, are relatively static types. He linked up play all over the pitch and delivered the best cross of the game when Lowton headed narrowly over near the end.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:02 pmBut theres no creativity from him, we could pick a centre midfielder up from the east lancs league who runs around a lot.

The fact you have given any of our player above a 6 shows you know absolutely nothing about football.

I thought Collins did everything expected of him today while Brownhill had a good second half. I did think our two full backs were our real weak link today.

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
And yet every other poster on this thread bar the usual suspects like you and Boysie has done exactly that. I repeat..if you think Brownhill deserved a rating of 4 today you definitely don't understand the game.
Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Agree with this. Against the 5 at the back system we really needed overlaps / more of an outlet from our full backs, and that’s before getting onto their poor final ball.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:13 pmI thought Collins did everything expected of him today while Brownhill had a good second half. Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Pope - 5 why can’t he kick a ball?
Lowton - 6
Tarkowski - 7 played well
Collins - as above looked solid
Taylor 5 - poor going forward
Lennon 5 - good first half then nothing at all
Westwood - 7 had a good game but he is what he is
Brownhill 6 - he is really average in a 2
McNeil - 5 - cuts inside so often but doesn’t have a right foot and nothing comes of it. Lost possession twice leading to dangerous counters.
Vydra 7 - looked a threat and we would have won with him on for the 90
Wood 5 - poor but no service.
Barnes - 5 - looked sharper than usual but little threat
Jay - 5 - 4 goals against Rochdale shouldn’t fool anyone, he’s nowhere near good enough unfortunately.
Gudmundson - 6 - he tried and a few decent deliveries.
Lowton - 6
Tarkowski - 7 played well
Collins - as above looked solid

Re: Burnley v Norwich - Player Ratings
Pope - 6 - handled well, but his kicking is causing us a problem.
Lowton - 3 - probably his worst performance for Burnley, full of poor passes, bad decisions and defending that got worse as his progressive game unravelled.
Taylor- 4 - got into good positions, but his crossing was appalling.
Collins - 7 - shades of the young, raw Michael Keane. His rough edges were evident but he played with an assurance most of of his more experienced players lacked.
Tarkowski - 8 - stupid early booking but otherwise the best player on the pitch.
Westwood - 4 - frantic in possession, and too many bad options.
Brownhill - 6 - showed a willingness to get into good positions but with a couple of exceptions lacked quality when he got there - those exceptions being when he burst down the inside channels to produce the only two crosses we managed from "in behind" all afternoon. Defensively compromised by an utterly stupid booking that perfectly reflected the lack of calmness in the team. In fairness, his athleticism was the key reason we pushed Norwich back.
Lennon - 6 - rarely looked like getting in behind but showed decent movement and looked as likely as anyone to make something happen.
McNeil - 8 - should have scored when he failed to believe the ball would get to him at the back post, caught dallying a couple of times, and not every pass came off, but head shoulders and body above his teammates in his desire and ability to play progressive football.
Vydra - 5 - looked lively and could have won us one or two penalties, and we missed his threat down the sides when he went off. But his link up game was untidy - albeit not helped by limited service - and too often a poor touch passed up promising attacks.
Wood - 4 - too deep too often, and looks a striker bereft of confidence, although he linked the play ok occasionally.
Rodriguez- 4 - a couple of tenacious moments but didn't look like scoring and after his first 5 minutes on the pitch didn't improve our link up game either.
JBG - 5 - showed a decent touch but a bit predictable.
We didn't get the rub of the green today with either penalty appeals or injuries, but this was a performance which brought relegation to mind. Dyche has built his Burnley teams on the ability to out do the numbers because of an ability to make better decisions than our opponents ("heads hearts, minds") but the trend of evidence is that that has gone. This team lacks the composure and clarity of thought to make good decisions, especially in midfield. It is frenetic and lacks composure in possession, is increasingly getting drawn into silly fouls that warrant yellow cards and then compromise the effectiveness of players, and brings pressure on itself as a result.
McNeil was the honourable exception in our forward 8 players today but that was at the cost of width on the left, and unfortunately the delivery from the full backs was atrocious.
There's time to turn this round, but unless we start pricing quality on the ball to manipulate it, over perspiration, getting to even 35 points looks a tall order.
