That 1st game under Mullen against Carlisle is on YouTube. Someone is premiering that game in its entirety right now.

I have often wondered how Frank must have felt after this and of course, what happens next week…

It happens a lot, but it must seem like a knee in the joy department.

I like to think that his side took us up.

The crowd had turned against him. He probably always tried to play too much football for a fourth division team. It’s always a sad day though when a manager goes, more so one who had been such a terrific player for us.

Certainly puts the moaning about yesterday into perspective when you read just how dire those days really were.

Some of our younger fans would do well to remember where we've come from when griping about a 0-0 PL draw against Norwich.

Shame Casper's reign ended in the manner it did, but given the shambles at Scarborough I don't see what option the club had.

It was not the shambles at Scarborough so much as no-one was surprised by the run. That time was the closest I have ever come to being a masochist. You spent the week looking forward to games and even looked forward to the visits of and to the outstanding teams… Hereford, Northampton, Rotherham…

I was gutted that Frank had gone, but no one who was there could argue it wasn’t coming. Anyone expecting Mullen to either get the job or led us to promotion could have made a fortune… no one wanted him to take over.

I wasn't, his tenure was well into extra time.

Interesting that Dobson's management career faded away quickly too after their split. Perhaps they were a great pairing with Casper as assistant/coach and I would have preferred that when replacing Miller.

Probably wanted someone new after Casper, but Mullen walked it.

Dobbo probably made a mistake in leaving Bury to go Bristol Rovers. Only lasted eight league & cup games, winning one, and that was it for him as a manager.

The good old days when even our fans knew the club wasn’t able to tempt Dobson/Casper to drop a level from Bury.

The moaning about yesterday is fully justified. We wouldn’t have beaten Scarborough if we had played them yesterday

I was lucky enough to interview Frank Casper as a young lad doing work experience for the local paper. Very nice man and generous with his time.

Most who met him would agree, but we were bloody woeful on the pitch before he decided to go.

If the directors box not been located so close to the Burnley fans would Teasdale have sacked Casper when he did?

Did the abuse from the fans simply push him over the edge that day?

Edit: or at least force Casper to resign?

Yesterday's criticism was fully justified. Going on about how **** we were 30 years ago is irrelevant.

Don’t think Casper was sacked. He looked washed out of ideas towards the end. It wasn’t the Scarborough game, it had been coming a while. However, forget the Burnley football Club we see, it rocked the football world about as much as Joey Barton getting the sack from Bristol Rovers would today.

Why are folk so obsessed with how crap we once were when someone questions a recent performance? Why aren’t we comparing against our greatest ever sides, that’s equally as relevant.

So why bring it up on a thread about thirty years ago?

Eh?

It’s a thread about Frank Casper resigning 30 years ago and yet someone managed to make a snide comment about folk complaining about yesterday because we happened to be crap 30 years ago.

Not sure how this has moved into any the current period. It’s part of the covering of the 1991/92 season when the departure of the manager I thought was a key point.

We were crap at the time, fourth division football was, but nothing to do with today or 1960 or any other year.

It was a sad day though. Frank’s a really good bloke and to see him go through that was difficult. By fourth division standards though he’d left us with a damn good squad.
