Do you think they're going to blackout all the popular social media sites and leave sites like UTC alone for us to discuss anything? Thats what is going on. A tin foil hat wearer on a protest march in Manchester 6 months ago told me this would happen. I thought he was nuts, now I'm not so sure. I'm not a conspiracy theorist I just find it strange.

Oh wow…. Guess what. Despite all of the conspiracy theories, the timing with the whistleblower, the thought it was never going to be recovered, it’s just a DNS issue, that happens now and then in the tech world.
This thread though is a great microcosm of modern society. The desire to rush to a dramatic worst case, fantasy scenario, rather than an acceptance that occasionally things go wrong, but it’s not a big issue, and life will continue broadly the same. It wasn’t the Chinese ending everything after all. Who’d have thought?

Your spot on, never did anything cross my mind other than a technical fault, it’s does make me laugh that people instantly suspect foul play as a first port of call. Very very sad.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:53 amOh wow…. Guess what. The lady had been in the news all day in the UK? Both radio and tvSpiral wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 11:21 pmFB owns WA and Insta so you'd have to imagine they're all operating from the same servers or somesuch, so it's possibly a cockup or perhaps an internal sabotage. There's a whistleblower you can read about here who's revealed her identity over the weekend, spilling the dirt on FB's incredibly shady practices. It's making the news over in yankeeland, and that makes the timing of all this very weird, though you wouldn't hear about it over here on our own news while we're dealing with third-world-country problems like energy crises and inept police. And goddamn party conferences. Why in god's name do party conferences even exist?

Quite. Always worth applying Hanlon's razor in the face of these conspiracies. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:53 amOh wow…. Guess what. This was all George Bush’s fault. 100%.

To be fair only one or two, one mainly, contributors went for the conspiracy scenario.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:53 amOh wow…. Guess what. Can t say I’d really miss any of it. Would have minimal impact on my life. I think for some their whole lives would change.

I don’t think they’re the only ones who’ve indulged in a bit of drama queenery on this thread. We love a microcosm of society on here.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:53 amOh wow…. Guess what. That is why I selected to read what academics where tweeting… I didn’t look into it, but academics don’t tend to quote ‘blokes in their bedrooms’ unless the ‘bloke’ is worth reporting. Part of the skills of PhD grads is their research of sources.box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 8:22 amAn actual ‘expert’ or some random sat in their bedroom?

It must have been pretty serious, they were Doctors in their various fields who I reported on. Clearly they were able to patch the problem. Time will tell how effective the patch was… I’m pretty sure there are people working on it still today.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:18 amshows how much crap is on twitter, unfortunately is all working again !
