Turkish Grand Prix
With only 7 races to go a potentially big weekend ahead in F1. Hamilton has taken a new engine component resulting in a 10 place penalty, so if he gets pole today highest he can start tomorrow is P11.
Verstappen had issues in the first 2 practice sessions, had work done on the car overnight but due to a wet final practice they is not much data to say if the changes have worked and so they just have to wait for qualifying to begin to see what happens.
A great chance for Verstappen to gain a march in the title race, but Turkey is a grand prix which had the most overtakes in a single race, 74, so plenty of chances for Hamilton to climb the grid tomorrow in the race.
Should be, hopefully, a fascinating weekend to continue this brilliant season.

Verstappen looks like he’s fixed whatever issues he was having.

Track changed a lot at the end of Q1, Schumacher into Q2 for the first time but Ricciardo out in Q1.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
That was a strange Q1. Most cars staying out most of the session. It’s tight at the front.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
I've tried to get into F1 as so many of my friends enjoy it and try to get me to watch.
I mean this respectfully as I am joining this thread, but I just can't get my head around the excitement with it.
It's a genuine question but what is it that makes it exciting for you all?

100% honest. TV doesn’t do it justice at all. When you go to a Grand Prix and actually see a car pass you at 200+ mph, and the noise. It gets you, and then you understand what you are seeing on the television.Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 1:27 pmI've tried to get into F1 as so many of my friends enjoy it and try to get me to watch.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
In previous years watching the Hamilton procession to the title, whilst still watching every race, was boring. In the previous 5 years or so you'd get a race with rain or a safety car which shakes the whole pack up, like when Gasly won in Monza in 2020. But this season the title battle and on track battles between Verstappen and Hamilton have been amazing to watch.Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 1:27 pmI've tried to get into F1 as so many of my friends enjoy it and try to get me to watch.

I think the excitement just comes from all the variables in place that can happen at any moment to keep it exciting. I like a lot of sport and football is number 1 on my list, but for example if a grand prix was on and football at the same time, excluding Burnley, I'd watch F1 over football.

Hamilton fastest but has a 10 place penalty to start in P11.
Bottas will be P1, Verstappen P2 and Leclerc P3.

Best possible outcome for Lewis!
Is there any rain due tomorrow? Let’s hope for an exciting race.

Exciting Q1 but 2 and 3 were a snoozefest.
Let's hope for a bit of drizzle tomorrow!

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
BBC shows dry, cloudy weather tomorrow in Istanbul and 16/17 degrees.
On the pace he showed, Hamilton should at a minimum be targetting a podium finish, if there is a safety car or two, then it should be exciting!

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
Forecast to be dry by race time but rain in the morning, lets hope it hangs around or comes later!
Re: Turkish Grand Prix
There are tracks that you know cannot produce an exciting race unless it rains, and those that are full of overtaking and other excitement.
If you are not that into it, best to avoid the likes of Austin and Monaco in favour of Baku and Spa.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
Plenty of overtakes possible at Turkey, it has the most overtakes in a single grand prix in F1 history at 74. Factor in the rain from yesterday and overnight washing all the rubber from the track, it will be difficult to begin with getting grip into the new tyres when cold, so expecting a crash at the first corner, which obviously as long as everyone is safe, could be entertaining and shake the whole field up a little.

I think Sky do a tremendous job presenting this with the likes of Brundle, Button, Chandhok, di Resta, Hill, Davidson and Ted whatsisname, The only chap I’m not too keen on is David Croft who tries to emulate the late Murray Walker and just ends up shouting.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
I actually like the Croft & Brundle commentary team or also like yesterday when Brundle wasn't there and Button was on commentary. Just as long as we keep Di Resta away from commentary then we should be safe.icu81b4 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 11:51 amI think Sky do a tremendous job presenting this with the likes of Brundle, Button, Chandhok, di Resta, Hill, Davidson and Ted whatsisname, The only chap I’m not too keen on is David Croft who tries to emulate the late Murray Walker and just ends up shouting.
Brundle's son actually commentates on F2 as well and when hearing them over the TV, you cannot tell which Brundle is commentating.
Re: Turkish Grand Prix
I have never been to an F1 race, it’s on my list but haven’t decided which one to go to yet, Italy, Portugal perhaps.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
Everyone starts on Inters, so after 4/5 laps when dry tyres will work, a lot of strategies needed when to pit at the right time, this is going to be a good race, rain is a great equaliser between car performance.

Reckon in hindsight a wet-> inter strategy might’ve won that for Lewis.

Re: Turkish Grand Prix
A shame the race didn't hit the heights it promised.
We just needed some more rain or a higher temperature to tempt teams into more pit stops and changes, but once the dry line appeared, as Sainz said, you just got stuck as it limited overtaking possibilities, but Max gets a slightly bigger points advantage which is good to see! On to Austin in two weeks.
