Burnley v Manchester United - 15th October 1960
It's 61 years ago this week and is a very special game for me. It was the day my dad took me to a first team game for the first time. My first ever first team game.
I wrote about it last year at

But now, I can relive it (and apologies if it has been posted before)

I’d ways thought you were a mascot at 1914 FA Cup finalClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 10:25 pmIt's 61 years ago this week and is a very special game for me. It was the day my dad took me to a first team game for the first time. My first ever first team game.

I was on that match and remember it quite well. To be honest that was the kind of game I expected to see on the Turf in those days, high scoring with Burnley scoring three, four or five and winning. Unfortunately I don’t expect to see same being served up these days, perhaps things might change for the better.

Remember being at this game with my dad. In fact, we're probably featured on the Longside near the front by the halfway line. Very happy days.

My debut with my dad and granddad was on the Bee Hole/Longside corner in front of the flag poles.

That first game is never forgotten. The excitement building from wakening up…talking about nothing else. Impatient to set off for the ground and walking up Ormerod Rd and along Leyland Rd. Calling at the sweet shop ( don’t tell your sisters!). The noise of the crowd. Absolutely magical!

Great watch. If that was played today we would lose 2-3 with 3 goals ruled out by VAR. Made me realize how much I hate having to wait to celebrate on the rare occasions we get the ball in the net.

You had a long walk, we only lived 2-3 mins walk from the turnstiles.Suratclaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 5:25 amThat first game is never forgotten. On the bus from Haslingden to Rawtenstall and then onto Burnley. It was all part of a wonderful experience for me.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 6:54 pmYou had a long walk, we only lived 2-3 mins walk from the turnstiles.

Too young to have seen him live, but every time I see old footage I ask myself what Ray Pointer would be worth in today’s market

Having seen this footage, jdrobbo, said to me that he hadn't been aware just how good Pointer was. He was not only an outstanding player but one that would drop seemlessly into modern football, probably alongside John Connelly, more than any other in that team.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 3:56 pmToo young to have seen him live, but every time I see old footage I ask myself what Ray Pointer would be worth in today’s market

Agree with this. Both players extremely versatile and especially Ray who could run and work all day. Just loved going to watch that team with my dad.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:16 pmHaving seen this footage, jdrobbo, said to me that he hadn't been aware just how good Pointer was.
