George Boyd Retires
George Boyd Retires
End of a successful career and a Claret I was proud to have in our team. Gave it everything and a huge engine.
The player my partner loved as she could spot him without her glasses on!

Very good for us, I always liked Boyd. I'd have him ahead of JBG currently.

That match at MK Dons our 5 -0 away win with a goal from George sticks in my mind
Never shortchanged us often covered more pitch than our groundsman
I wish him well in his future career

Great player for us. Integral part of what was probably my favourite Burnley side in the 21 years I’ve been watching.

That promotion team togetherness must have been off the scale.

Saw my mate, The other day,
And he said to me he'd seen the white Pele,
So I asked, Who he be?
He goes by the name of George Boydie!
George Boydie, George Boydie,
He goes by the name of George Boydie...
In his Stevenage and Peterborough days.

My 2 favourite goals are the one he scored against Man City as I was sat just to the side of the goal where it hit the net and the one against MK Dons in the 5-0 win

Off the pitch a top and unassuming chap……
City…….at home…………
Thanks GB and hope you enjoyed the ride!

Cheers for the memories George, an integral member of our 15/16 Championship winning squad.
Definitely one of Sean Dyche's better signings.
600+ games and 109 goals is a decent career in anyone's book.

Generous
Did fine for us at Championship level. He wasn’t my favourite, but played his part. The City goal an obvious highlight.

Re: George Boyd Retires
If you look at that era the intensity was frightening - Boyd, Arfield, Marney, Ings, Trippier and Kightley
Technically we are undoubtedly a better squad now but if there was a way to combine that with the raw energy of first incarnation Dyche group I would feel a lot more confident than I do at present
Clinging to the hope that a fit and available Cornet is a get out of jail platinum card

Re: George Boyd Retires
I didn't mind Boyd, wasn't the most technical player but you knew you'd be getting 100% the majority of the time just from seeing his running stats.
Did us well, and from the looks of it had a reasonable career.
I wish him well in his future endeavours

Re: George Boyd Retires
I agree it is obvious that we have a much better footballing squad now, but two of those you mention, ings and trippier, were top players who gave us moments of quality to allow the workhorses to grind out results. Now, it must be said that the standard of the league is higher IMO, and we need more than just workhorses to compete. I think our squad is quite good really now, but the lack of form from our strikers, weakness of central midfield at times and individual mistakes are making this season very difficult.EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 10:51 pmIf you look at that era the intensity was frightening - Boyd, Arfield, Marney, Ings, Trippier and Kightley

Re: George Boyd Retires
Agree, but worry that a fit and available Cornet won’t be enough to pull this lot out of jail. A class full of 14 year old schoolboys couldnt pull this lot out of the **** we are in now….EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 10:51 pmIf you look at that era the intensity was frightening - Boyd, Arfield, Marney, Ings, Trippier and Kightley

Re: George Boyd Retires
Massively suprised by Boyd when he first arrived. From all the media hype around him during his Peterborough days (SoccerAM used to love him) and seeing him a few times when they llayed at Turf - I thought we was getting an out and out flair player.
In fact what we signed it was almost the opposite, he was an absolute workhorse and a very clever footballer. Really pleased we signed him in the end for a completely different reason. Top player and what an engine!

Re: George Boyd Retires
One of the few quotes from Steve Bruce that were worthy of note (at the time we bought GB):
Bruce said: "George Boyd is someone I was tempted to keep. He is such a great lad, a great pro and easy to manage. It was the little things with George.
"He's a wonderful lad. If your daughter came home with him, you would be delighted. He is such a great lad and a really good person.
"After the Cup final, he came up and shook my hand.
"He said, 'I never thought I would ever get anywhere near a Cup final, can I buy you a beer to thank you'. Things like that say a lot about George."

Re: George Boyd Retires
I've got good memories of his time with us. Never gave anything less than 100%, scored some nice goals, and came across as a really good guy. He was a big part of our recent success and for that I'll always be thankful. All the best to you, George!

Was on R/Lancs before game, always refers to Burnley as "us".
