Re: Matt Lowton
Lowton is neither a weak link we need to replace or one of our better players we would struggle to improve on and might lose to a bigger club.
The Roberts signing seems perfect as there is no rush for us to need to get him into the team quickly but if over time he can develop into a better player than Lowton than brilliant cos improving out team is what everyone should want.
In the meantime we have some good competition for right back and are not forced to rely on Bardsley who has never let us down but is always at his limit just to not to be exposed at this level

Re: Matt Lowton
I wouldn’t have him down for mom, but you’re right he was very good again, as he has been for most of the season.

Re: Matt Lowton
Maybe…
He’s ok is lowton, he’s always been ok, but just ok. Now there’s real competition for the starting place, he’s stepped up. That’s good, because the team benefits massively when he plays as well as he can, but it’s also bad because the very real threat of being dropped shouldn’t be needed to spur someone on to playing better. As pointed out above, played well all season.

Re: Matt Lowton
I think playing a 442 is OK with Lowton. He's been excellent at times this year. But he's also had a few sub par performances. Of course, he's not been anywhere near our worst performer, but his place is under scrutiny because of the potential of Roberts. Roberts has, without doubt, a real ability to get forward and provide excellent service to the front line. If we were to play a 433/4321/4231 with our natural wingers a bit narrower, then I can really see the appeal of Roberts over Lowton. Get a CM in January and who knows

A very good chance we are going to be solid down that side with both Lowton and Roberts. Try and see it as more than an either/or situation

Why would his place be under scrutiny he has literally been one of if not our best player this season.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 6:38 pmI think playing a 442 is OK with Lowton. I love how many people think Roberts will perform better. He’s a mid table championship player that needs to make a big step up. Dyche will ease him in over the next 18-24 months.

Re: Matt Lowton
No way Roberts is going to be eased in over 18 months. He is a very good international player who will be good enough to get into the team at the first opportunity and equally good enough to stay there. In the meantime Lowton carrying on playing like he is can only be good for the teamNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 6:42 pmWhy would his place be under scrutiny he has literally been one of if not our best player this season.

Re: Matt Lowton
What's nonsense about it? I said that Roberts clearly has potential so Lowton's place in the side gets scrutinised. I didn't say he should be dropped. I said he's had some excellent performances

Re: Matt Lowton
I think the statement regarding him being a “very good international player” are premature at best. He’s had a decent international career with limited impact.Elizabeth wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 6:51 pmNo way Roberts is going to be eased in over 18 months. He has played most of his league football at mid table championship. He will be eased in over the next 18 months. I Will take a stab and say he won’t start a league game this season if Lowton stays fit.
For the record I think he will turn out to be a good player for us. But let’s not make him out to be a better player than he is

Good to see Newcastleclaret laying out his marker early for Roberts

Re: Matt Lowton
Like I said I think he will be good. But people calling for him to replace Lowton are just being silly. Lowton has been one of our best performers for a while now. Just behind in wood in last seasons player of the season for me.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 7:13 pmGood to see Newcastleclaret laying out his marker early for Roberts

Re: Matt Lowton
Yeah you're already busy talking him and his career to date down, I can see it.
He won't replace Lowton yet, but what he does is push Lowton to perform consistently, which is good for us because Lowton does have a tendency to drop in form every season.
Like I've said you're just setting your stall out early on this signing.

Ignore the naysayers ...
Matt Lowton you are number one in that RB spot at BFC and the guys behind you are pushing you ...
Bloody Brilliant

Re: Matt Lowton
It’s not talking his career down it is being realistic, they want to replace someone that has played nearly his whole career in the premier league.and is currently in some of the best form of his career with someone that to date has performed well in a mid table championship team.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 7:24 pmYeah you're already busy talking him and his career to date down, I can see it.

I will say again I think he will turn out to be a good player but he will need to be eased in
