David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
This went under the radar didn't it, he took charge of his landmark match at Genk tonight as WH secured a 2-2 draw.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59148845
Moyes becomes the 35th member of this fairly exclusive club all here.https://leaguemanagers.com/managers/1000-club/
Some collection of names on that list, and certainly a list that SD may yet make it onto one day, although he's still got a good number of games before he reaches that milestone.

Recovered well from the 2013-2017 period and proving again what a good manager he is

Yes but the same posters say that about SD every other week. Moyes was on a hiding to nothing at United, I’m sure he went with all kinds of promises that he would be given time but that was never going to happen post AF. I think United would be in a lot better position and a lot richer if they had had a backbone.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 7:54 pmI seem to recall posters on here neither rating or wanting him here.

Garbage at Sunderland, looked a busted flush.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 7:54 pmI seem to recall posters on here neither rating or wanting him here.
Sociedad didn't go well for him either
Then West Ham decided he wasn't the man to take them forward and didn't offer him a new contract.
Seemed to be in terminal decline as manager, but that 18mths out from football after West Ham did him some good, he rejuvenated himself and West Ham are reaping the rewards.

The others on list make interesting reading, especially for us of a certain age. Some surprises there actually.

To be fair about that statement West Ham have some cracking footballers on their books....it does help.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 8:20 pmGarbage at Sunderland, looked a busted flush.

Yes it does, but he's still got to get them working and pulling in the same direction, something that's clearly missing at places like Norwich and Newcastle

Norwich & Newcastle? You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, that's a strange comparison Sid!GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 11:44 amYes it does, but he's still got to get them working and pulling in the same direction, something that's clearly missing at places like Norwich and Newcastle

In those 1,000 games as a manager has he ever won anything,I'm struggling ro recall one,it's an awful lot of games if he's never won a trophy.

Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
Major trophies no I don't believe he has, he did win the title with PNE the season we both got promoted, but apart from that I can't recall any other silverware.
Mind you you could equally ask the same question of BFS amongst others on that list, and unless you're in charge of a big 6 club, it's becoming increasingly difficult to attain silverware in the modern game.
He might change that this season though as West Ham could well be a decent bet for the LC anyway.

he is top class
Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
John Toshack did a 1,000 games??? Really surprised by that. And it says two clubs. I’m sure he managed Swansea, Real Madrid and real sociedad.
Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
Good manager but like at Everton has pretty much reached his managerial limit.

Every team with Smaller squads do get injuries you know.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 5:45 pmdifficult for any manager when your first choice defence is missing and you don't have the quad Man City do
It's part and parcel of the game so shouldn't be used as an excuse.

Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
so you find no coincidence in the FACT that WHU results have taken a downturn once their first choice team has been hit with injuries. There are no magicians in charge of football teams, if the players at your disposal are limited then I'm not sure what you expect and don't see how that is a barometer of managerial ability. If Moyes has the City squad they wouldn't be 6th

Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
Are people seriously questioning David Moyes just because West Ham are on a bad run, they are still 6th in the league, and qualified for the KO stages of the EL.
And naturally injuries have taken their toil, as they inevitably will for most teams outwith the clubs with huge resources, and even they can be stretched at times, as we saw with Liverpool last season when they had a spat of injuries all at once.

Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
There are a certain number of posters on this board who feel the need to assign limits to managers and players. "He's league 1", "championship", as though no one is allowed to better themselves or move on. It's nonsense. It's that kind of lazy thinking that degrades British managers. Some kind of automatic assumption that they aren't suitable for the top clubs. So they never get chance to prove themselves.

If given the time man united probably would have been a much better team today.
Re: David Moyes joins the 1,000th game manager club
Some of the managers not on the list seemed a bit surprising.
