Protesting Kids

On tv. One said "they are not doing nothing. They should listen us".
Think she'd have been better staying in class!

Why on earth would young people be protesting when old people are clearly doing such a good job of running things.....oh

Fair play to the kids, it's their future that keeps getting kicked down the road by elders.

I'm thinking of taking my grandson out of school - to go protesting in Tenerife. A week-long rally. They can't touch you now the precedent has been set, or is it in Scotland only?

I'm 48

I think being old starts when you begin threads moaning about people younger than you about very serious issues and pretend it doesn't matter

Presumably you see yourself as being on the correct side of this Young/Old divide. We could do with less " divides " not more, in my opinion

Of course we could do with less divides

But there shouldn't be any division about climate change should they?

And there really should be a realisation by those who maybe won't be around to see it to see those of us who wills point of view and recognise that its important

You're assuming that all young folk ( <48 presumably ) hold the same point of view and everyone else holds another

I'm assuming that if you are going to live, you care about the future and that if you don't, then you don't

There will be exceptions (Rowls springs to mind!) but I reckon I'm on safe ground with this one.

That was from a young girl from Argentina to be fair. As she gets older she will no doubt comprehend the 'double negative' implication. Just hoping she has the time and inclination to improve her English during her next few years and not be worried about issues outside her control.

I'm deeply concerned about climate change, I look at my young grandchildren and worry they won't have the quality of life regarding the great outdoors I had as a child. OK the climate and planet has been damaged by ignorance in the past but this millennium when science has proven beyond doubt about the causes of climate change and pollution there is no excuse left for governments not to act. Youngsters are voters and in democracies things are at last starting to happen, worryingly though the 2 main polluters are not democracies and their attitudes reflect this.
This saying by the pope sums it up for me.

We have a great responsibility, especially with regard to the future generations. What world do we want to leave to our children and our young? Our selfishness, our indifference and our irresponsible ways are threatening the future of our children."

Is that right? That's really impressive if so. Getting off her ass to protest about something genuinely important.. in her second language and still make her point. Not as impressive as whining like an old fart on social media about whatever the 'kids' are up to now, but still.

What do these kids propose then to drive the change? There seems to be a lot of hysteria without actual solution. Why aren’t they directing their anger at China and Russia too? Until they take things seriously, me washing out my tuna can at home isn’t going to matter one jot. I’m 31.....I must be on the old side of the divide....

Yes, blame the kids, why cant they come up with a solution? I don't know what they're up to in their governments and boardrooms. If only they could get off their phones and computers. It's not like any kid has had more impact on the debate than adults is it?

The problem is the solution will be pretty grim if it's done properly-certainly in the short term. Forget frivolous carbon powered journeys watching football for example! If those kids are prepared to make genuine sacrifices, good on them.

There’s nothing wrong with kids being concerned about climate change , but surely they should be directing their awkward ire at the likes of China/Brazil/Russia/India/ Far East etc for systematicly raping their natural resources. There’s been ( and continues to be) huge strides in green energy during this period of undeniable global warming .

Impressionable kids being politically manoeuvred by millennial soy boys will have little impact .

It’s probably quite difficult for kids in the UK to protest in China/Brazil/Russia/India/ Far etc.

The internet, apparently, uses 2% of the world's power, mainly in storage devices that use power to keep everything online at all times. Surely there is a way to reduce that?

Obviously children will already be insisting that the central heating be used only downstairs and not in bedrooms. But if there are any concerned people who have bedroom heating, turning it off will save money as well as the planet. Bedroom heating should be reserved for the old or ill who really need it.

I realise it will be a cold trip from the bed to all the electronic devices which they need to turn off properly, not just put on standby. Again, I presume they are already doing that.

People who pretend to care about global warming are simply just bored and want some political style argument. Did these kids cycle to the protest? did they feck

I'm sure plenty did cycle. It's a weak argument if that's all you have

You wouldn't think that most of them were probably teenagers in the 1960s or 1970s. I wonder if they've always been like this? To take a positive from all the negativity they perpetually spout - they are a warning of what you might turn into if you allow yourself to hate the world and everyone in it.

There are bigger things to worry about while you're alive than the possibility of the world under water in 2 billion years, some like to cry about things that wont affect them though, it's similar to the snowflake attitude of being offended on the behalf of others. How about they protest about things that actually matter? like homelessness, war/conflict, Mino Raiola leeching from football?

Like politics, it's for bored people, looking for something meaningless to bicker and whinge about. The media will run with it for clicks and news needs something to report. These rednecks were probably the same idiots who believed the world was gonna end a few years ago.

Things that matter...... hmmm.
OK it's not a wind up. My second choice was correct.
I'm not bothering to argue with you. It's not worth it.

If it’s not on Football Manager it ain’t real.
Why do you keep sly digging with Football Manager? what a weirdo
My knowledge comes from a variety of things, mainly watching football, I haven't really played a manager computer game since LMA manager 2006. I've never claimed to play Football Manager, weird hater making up things.

I'd argue he isn't the one making things up.

It's not an either or situation but I suspect if they were protesting about those things you would rather they were, someone like you would be moaning about it in a similar way to you. You don't have to get involved but the least you could do is support them.

as someone who lives in a hot place I can tell you it's getting hotter and for longer and that is in a reasonably short period of time. Your ignorance is on an astounding level if you think there are bigger things to worry about it

I think both sides of the argument should all stop calling the other names and just have a fight.

All this entrenched polarised arguments over the internet is so 2016... ;)

Your obviously not keeping up with the science, if we go over 2 degrees of warming which at the rate we are going will be by 2030, several cities around the world will be lost to the sea.
