Is Sean with us forever?

Post by nyclaret » Tue Nov 09, 2021 6:56 pm

Villa, Newcastle, Palace, Spurs, Norwich, Palace, Everton, West Ham... all these jobs have come and gone.

Sorry Sean, you're with us forever :D

No one else wants Sean.

The man who’s just taken over Newcastle is half the manager but he seems to have this image around him of an exciting forward thinking capable manager.

Only ever been successful at one club. Its a big risk for a club to bet on him repeating what he's done at Burnley and its a big risk for Dyche to give up the safety net of what he has built at Burnley to potentially struggle at his new club.

I suspect one of two things will happen for Dyche and Burnley to part terms. One is he takes us down and then gets an offer from a Premier League club or he takes us down and we struggle in the Championship and he finally leaves by mutual consent

Both possible with the latter being more likely, I'd say. Not for a long time though, I hope.

You missed Leicester, Sunderland, Torquay

OK Torquay was a joke ... but for the past 9 years any managerial job that's cropped up Seans name has been bandied by someone or another...

Long may Sean reign in the BFC hot seat ... 🙂

He’s only ever managed two clubs and it was an absolute farce that he lost his first job.

I think Sean would back himself to be successful elsewhere and I’d be inclined to agree with him.

You might, I might and Sean would definitely back himself but other chairman might not and its still a lot for Sean to give up.

Have a think how you might regard all Eddie Howe's managerial success at Bournemouth compared with how the majority of Bournemouth fans view him and then you might start to understand what plenty of non Burnley folk will think of Dyche

Another reason he might leave is if the new owners close up the purse strings. I've got ZERO complaints about the budget he was giving this summer, and I imagine Sean's happy too. But if heaven forbid he gets told he's limited to free transfers for a year or two, I imagine he might be willing to change clubs. I can't imagine how frustrating the last couple of years were for him.

I hope not. Change is needed in every walk of life. I'd give him this season and start looking

He's been given such autonomy here which is something he loves and would be less of a chance of getting it elsewhere.

I just think he knows which way his bread's buttered and he values that.

Exactly this. Nowhere else would he get the control and influence that he has at Burnley. Look at some of the models other clubs operate, Sean would be a Head Coach not a Manager. It won't work for every club but he has made a success of running things at Burnley and long may it continue. And to answer the original question, I can see him moving into a Director of Football kind of role and mentoring his successor. Michael Duff possibly?

The Duff suggestion sounds interesting.

Couple of points

He's got nowhere near the control he had now we've new owners and I think he's actually happier

Its just a matter of time if he keeps us in the premier league that a bigger team will take a chance on him

Let’s hope he is still here when I am well gone and until he retires when he is 90

But Reverend Dave, did you not grant Sean of Dyche III, eternal life?

I don’t think they ever will because ’Dyche’ doesn’t sound Italian, Spanish, Portuguese or South American. He could maybe pass as German I suppose.
Seriously though he has had too much bad press about his playing style and much of it will stick. Which is good for us I think. I don’t want him to leave but it would be interesting to see how he handled managing a club with a bottomless purse. I suspect his style would change according to the quality he had, but I still think the emphasis would be on defence because he knows enough to realise the best teams (mostly) are the ones who don’t concede many.
