African World Cup Qualifying - Match Fixing

Post by claretburns » Wed Nov 17, 2021 10:25 pm

South Africa are claiming their game against Ghana was fixed to allow Ghana to win 1-0 from a very dubious penalty decision which resulted in Ghana going through to the next stage on goal difference at the expense of South Africa.

A South African former referee claims to have seen 71 major incidents in the game that the referees from Senegal got wrong as well as the South African FA President claiming a betting spike happened in the game before the penalty was awarded.

Report - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/africa/59320969

The Penalty Incident - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLQ3Mdp0xUQ

Is it a case of sour grapes or do South Africa have a case?

It has been referred to FIFA who will be investigating the game.

Should all be sorted correctly if the always honest & decent FIFA are looking into it

Nothing was done about Joe Jordan and Thierry Henry cheating their respective nations to the World Cup finals with their hands and I doubt anything will be done here.

I note that the South American Association have suspended officials, including the VAR man after Otamendi was allowed to get away with an elbow on Raphina. Match finished 0-0.

I watched the recent series on World Cup venue fixing with footage alleging bribery and corruption at the highest level, citing USA, Russia and Qatar as all bought decisions.
These countries had little infrastructure and in Qatars case not even any leagues .
Fifa is a corrupt organisation and with the vast sums of money involved, nothing will change. A boycott of the World Cup by the top European teams and South American teams against the insane decision to play in Qatar was the only act possible.
Unfortunately, this tainted competition with its destructive effect on our domestic game next season will go ahead.

71 errors in one game ? Was it Kevin Friend in disguise ?
