Cooke, Payton and Weller were always out together in Accy. As said above, it was a strange team that.. a few that were good Championship players and a whole load who would soon be doing well to get a game in League Two.
I still can't believe that we got Paul Cooke on a free from Stockport (was it?)

I presume notts meant Andy Cooke.

Who was in goal for PNE that day? He was pretty bad.

Yeah, getting carried away a bit there

Didn't Cooke finish as top scorer that season?

David Lucas - he was another of those inexplicably called up into international squads at the time (Think he was England U18's and 20's / 21's) despite being nowhere near good enough (apologies if he's anybody on here's mate). He was the first overhyped Preston Keeper, similar levels of ridiculousness to Andy "2 fingers" Lonergan

Even saw to suggest Moore was the poor link in that squad is pushing it. I raise you Blatherwick.
Blatherwick was head and shoulders better than Moore. That’s why one had a lengthy career at League One level and the other in non league.

Blatherwick is a bonafide legend here in Chesterfield.

Nogan definitely was a good striker, even if his off field antics weren't always ultra professional. Having said that, the off field culture was very different back then.
Think Nogan lived in Barnoldswick for a spell. He definitely liked a drink according to a few mates who lived there.

He got a tattoo of the Burnley badge on his chest (or leg) can’t remember which… was released/sold not long after.

Not sure if he still has it now 🤣. But it was a story told to me by a mate who was on our books at the time who cleaned his boots.

Payton said this at a recent sportsman's dinner I was at. Payts asked if he'd watched last night's game and MW said he doesn't like football.

He was Heath’s teachers pet but then suddenly became the bad boy. Very definitely a good striker.

I was desperately trying to pick out one of our all time greats i.e. Mark Ford. No idea whether he "played" in that game but then he didn't actually "play" in any of our games during his memorable spell at Burnley. He was certainly picked in many starting elevens by his mentor Waddle.

Two England U21 caps.

That’s 100% the case. Had no interest at all. I’m told Lee Briscoe was similar.

Andy Cooke was signed from Welsh club Newtown. Within his level, I liked him. Good third-tier striker.

What I'll never understand is why were they playing football in the first place to get spotted if they didn't like the game

Possibly liked it at some point but fell out of love when it became a job. I knew lads who liked playing but no interest in watching as a kid.

I expect it’ll be like anyone who ends up in a decent paying job and can’t face starting again so just sticks it out

Winstanley was a really unlucky player, every error he seemed to make (of which there were a few, granted!) seemed to get punished by a goal. I thought he was a decent enough player at the time.
I had high hopes when we signed him (as with Alan Harper) but always wondered whether we would have been better sticking with Pender (and Deary) that season.

A grand day - Acewell Electronics Hyndburn Sports Centre Sunday morning 7 a side football team day out . Someone fell over the hoardings when Moore scored and there were rumours an over jubilant Bodgers touched a lady’s clam in Tokyo Joes later that night giving birth to #meetoo which ultimately solved our championship central defensive crisis 20 years later but also unexpectedly led to the ultimate demise of Hollywood legend Harvey Weinstein
And Moore was pirloesque compared to Zelem

Scored the only goal in a Cup Tie at Derby once, I recall, in their relatively new Pride Park.

What’s really noticeable about that footage is the way both teams just jog back to the centre circle after a brief celebration when they score. Even Moore does in the last minute. Now it would be, head to the corner, entire team goes over, try to waste time, then get back as slow as possible.

What’s also noticeable is the monkey chants aimed at Kurt Nogan when he scores, horrible to hear. I remember fans around me shouting ‘Welsh P***’ and I was only 9.

Glad we don’t hear that at Burnley games 20 years later

That's the most serious racist incident, I have heard/seen at Burnley.

It was loud, very loud. Maybe half the stadium singing it.

He was despised when he left, shame as he was a level above any other of our players at the time.

Worst I’ve heard was at Bradford City in 2001. We packed out that stand and I’m sad to say that (I would guess) 60/70% of our fans were singing “You’re just a town full of p***s” for a good portion of the game. I’d have been 15 at the time and I remember feeling ashamed to be associated with the club in that moment. The element absolutely still exist in our fanbase, but I’m certain it’s a lot better than it was back then.

Lee Briscoe wasn't quite the same. My old boss is mates with him and plays/played 5 aside with him (Normanton area) and Briscoe loved playing football and at the time was involved in coaching at Wednesday which he also loved.

Think it was more the professional side of playing the game he didn't like but he was good at it so he treated it like a job and got on with it to earn money
