Ghostbusters
Been to see this tonight and I thought it was brilliant.
As a child of the 80’s, the original Ghostbusters is one of the first films I remember seeing, along with Back to the Future.
I thought this had a wonderful blend of nostalgia, wit (similar to the original) and wonderful continuity to the first two films (brilliantly ignoring the ‘Answer the Call’ Melissa McCarthy shite).
I even confess I may have got a little emotional about it.
Other generations might not have the same attachment, but any 70’s / 80’s kids, will love it.
Anyone else seen it?

Re: Ghostbusters
I've never understood the urge to watch a film because I liked the same thing as a child. For example, I was into star wars as a kid, but I couldn't give a toss about the franchise now.
Each to their own I suppose.

Re: Ghostbusters
Personally, these are films I enjoyed as a child. Understood more as an adult (I.e. the humour) and as such have a special place in my growing up.
More specifically, this one is a direct sequel to GB 1 and 2, as opposed to the Star Wars prequels and sequels.
I take your point but isn’t that the definition of nostalgia?

Re: Ghostbusters
Probably, but I just don't like films that are aimed at kids. Adults who like Harry Potter (films and books) seriously worry me.

Re: Ghostbusters
anything remotely american, and aimed at the mass market has to be avoided. their film industry aims at vegetables.and often succeeds in winning over eager viewers.

Re: Ghostbusters
For anyone who was into ghostbusters as a child this film is amazing.
I’d still recommend rewatching the original as there is so many small discreet nods to it that just brings it all together.
Best film I’ve seen at the cinema for years if not ever

Re: Ghostbusters
One of my favourite films as a kid, still makes me laugh to this day.
Afterlife is quite genuinely the film I have wanted since I was seven. If you enjoyed the originals, this is everything you will have hoped it could be - yes, I shed a tear.
Also, McKenna Grace. Wow. What a little star she is, will be a huge actor I think.
Did you all stay for both after credits sequences?

Re: Ghostbusters
Surprisingly good, surprising as many hyped films are a let down. Really enjoyed this though.

Re: Ghostbusters
Absolutely. I have to say fair play to Ernie Hudson, who got royally screwed over in the filming of the original with a vastly reduced role, after accepting the part.
If you have Netflix, I’d encourage you to watch the Ghostbusters episode of “the movies that made us” series. Finding out how close that film game to not being made is really interesting.

Re: Ghostbusters
Hopefully (no spoiling for anyone reading this who hasn’t seen the film intended…) the final scene at the end of the credits means we get a lot more Winston in a sequel assuming this film does well at the box office!Darthlaw wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 9:46 amAbsolutely. I'm only going if Slimer is in it with all those hotdogs in his gob, that's my favourite scene from any movie...ever!!
