Re: Cornets Volley
My main observation of this goal was that the goalkeeper didn’t start to dive until after the ball and hit the back of the net, such was the ferocity on the hit. Truly pure strike

I think that if the keeper had got a hand to it, it would have broken his hand he hit it that hard.

If you want to know why I sit in the stand, paying to watch the match, today I'd have taken him off at half time and then, four minutes into the second half he does that.

Bloke next to me suggested he should be taken off at half time, like everyone else he was WTF, when he hit that volley. No goalkeeper in the world was stopping that.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 5:58 pmIf you want to know why I sit in the stand, paying to watch the match, today I'd have taken him off at half time and then, four minutes into the second half he does that.

Re: Cornets Volley
Very like Robbie Blake v manu, and worthy of winning the game, was a fantastic goal, but unless Mr dyche realises we need 4 certain players on the pitch at the same time, preferably at the start it seems unlikely that we're going to get enough wins this season, my 4 " cornet, vydra, mcneil, and wood.

Re: Cornets Volley
I wouldn’t have taken him off but agree he wasn’t overly busy up front first half. I feel we need to get him into the game more to make use of his quality. Whether that means him playing on the wing when he knows the shape, or plays up top and we get it in behind/short to feet more.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 5:58 pmIf you want to know why I sit in the stand, paying to watch the match, today I'd have taken him off at half time and then, four minutes into the second half he does that.
But he’s clearly a class above and his 5 goals so far alone will value him at a lot more than we paid.

Did very well, considering he's had a tiring week. Even kicking the ball when going down on the deck - Ralphie Coates-like. Super effort.

Re: Cornets Volley
We didn’t go quite that far, but had a discussion about him playing out of position, and that’s because dyche doesn’t trust him yet, resulting in him not seeing the ball as much as if he were in midfield.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 5:58 pmIf you want to know why I sit in the stand, paying to watch the match, today I'd have taken him off at half time and then, four minutes into the second half he does that.

Re: Cornets Volley
Awesome goal and one that we'll remember for a long time to come.
Re: Cornets Volley
His goals to shots ratio is amazing.
Re: Cornets Volley
Problem with him playing out wide though is that he could spend too much time defending/tracking back. I feel McNeil has suffered a bit through this tbh.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 6:09 pmI wouldn’t have taken him off but agree he wasn’t overly busy up front first half. Maxwell's strike was so brilliant it may be enough to gain sixth position in goal of the month on MOTD behind ANY goal by Manure, Chelski, Liverpool, Man Sheiks, Arseholes and West Ham....
Re: Cornets Volley
Oh raised the roof. Would still have been going had there not been a net. BUT is he an out and out striker? We'll have to see. Certainly a class act and I wish we had another couple of his calibre.

Re: Cornets Volley
He only score great goals. Someone above beat me to it, but the finish reminded me of Robbie Blake’s screamer against Man United. The goal did not deserve to be on the losing side, absolute stunner.
I still think he is getting used to our play and the pace of the premier league, we are going to have one hell of a player though when he does.

Re: Cornets Volley
Surely, that's a contender for goal of the season? Not just at Burnley but the whole PL. If Shearer is on MOD tonight, I'm sure he'll be drueling over it.
Talking of MOD, I think we might just make 6th in the running order tonight.

My m8 Dave said to me that goal was worth every penny today ... he then remembered his seat was a freebie
Hey ho ... he hasn't been on the Turf for a couple of years (he is an ex season ticket holder but now has other commitments, young family etc) ... back in the pub he said today has made him consider coming back every week (not just Max's goal but the desire seen across the team)
Come on you Clarets

Re: Cornets Volley
A wonderful goal - as others have said, reminiscent of Blake's, except bettee because the angle was narrower and the ball was coming across him. He's an extraordinary talent with charisma to burn.
But - for me, hes not a centre forward and I'm not sure it will ever get the best from him. His goal today, and most of his others so far, came when he held wide and attacked from out to in. He looks most comfortable making those runs and running onto the ball, not playing with his back to goal and coming towards it. His effort was again beyond question but he looked lost at times today (as he did at times even against Brentford) and as a result at times that uncertainty made it look like we were a man short.
I know why Dyche wants him to play there, but I cant help but think that the sooner we use him.from the left, and let McNeil add some craft to our midfield, the more balanced a team we will look.
