The value of Maxwel Cornet
Fair to say he has slotted straight in to Premier League life.
He’s scoring goals
Has pace
Can play wing back, winger, centre forward.
Has become a very big fish in a smallish pond (and I think he likes that)….
BUT…
If a club were to come in for him next Summer, with FOUR years left on his contract, just how much do you think he’d actually be worth?

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
To be honest, he's in a hot goal streak at the moment, and he was fairly quiet today
But if he can keep scoring goals at this rate, then........

I expect bids to be placed whether we are in the Championship or retain our PL status.
If it’s the former £20-25 million.
The later 40 plus.

Getting the ball to him more often will stop the opposition double or treble marking Dwight McNeil.

I think Vieira was impressed. He was chatting to Cornet after the game.
He's certainly worth a heck of a sight more than we paid for him which was about 12.5 million.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
I know JD doesn't mean it like that, but I do funny and typical of Burnley fans, talking about a good player leaving when they've only been here 5 minutes.
Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
Early days but what a great start. He’s playing out of position at the moment too. Didn’t get him involved enough first half today. Sorting central midfield out will help him and the team immensely. Value is certainly more than we paid. Hope we find more gems from abroad.

I hope he’s here for his full contract and more but I also believe we have a massive talent on our hands. It’s wonderful having him and McNeil at the club.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
If he carries on scoring 5 goals every six games in the english top division then he will soon become the worlds most valuable player.
But he won't, so he won't.
I think only Messi and Ronaldo (maybe Lewandowski) actually scored more goals than games played in recent years, and even proper great strikers like Aguero and Shearer were more like 1 in 2. So I wouldn't overthink it.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
This.
Our fanbase generally seems to undervalue some players, but the club needs to have a higher mindset for valuations.
If he carries on smashing goals in then he's certainly worth £40 million plus.
Villa paid £28 million plus add-ons which make it £33 million for Watkins, so that higher number should be the starting point for Cornet.

based on his cost to us and his contract length he is worth a minimum of 50 million. 150 if Newcastle want him

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
He’s clearly magic and has the potential to be a top top player. He’s class, quick, skilful, works hard. Probably not a striker but he’ll learn more about the shape and then Vydra can play as well. Must already be worth £40M, but realistically he’s worth what another club would pay, and it’s difficult to know what that might be.
The kind of player which will really improve the neutral casual fans perception of Burnley with exciting fast play. Also, bringing a buzz back to the turf.
Either way, I hope he stays for a couple of years, keeps playing well, and then he can be Mane’s replacement at Liverpool as he’s getting old...

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
As a quick aside, having played for Lyon and us this season, even if someone offered £1,000,000,000 for him he wouldn't be able to play for them would he?
Can't play for three teams in one season, no?

Are we selling him already? Never mind the value, enjoy it whilst he's here.

What is his best position? What is his best position for us? An amazing talent from what I've seen so far. Poor header out fir their first today so hes not a great defender.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
If his goals go a long way to keeping us up he's worth north of a £100m.
Regarding his market value I'd say based on age and the length of his contract £40-50m is a fair price, for comparison Norwich have just sold Buendia for nearly £40m, and that's after he played a season in the Champ following their relegation.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
He’s one of the hottest properties in the league at the moment, and rightly so.
Enjoy every minute he plays for us and I hope we keep letting him express himself and don’t try to stifle him.

And, to answer the O/P's question

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
I think it solely depends on two factors, if he keeps this up for the season and gets 20 league goals. He could go for 50m in the summer.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 9:01 pmFair to say he has slotted straight in to Premier League life.

However if we are relegated it won’t really matter how well he does he will go for a fraction of the amount.

He only goes for a fraction if the club accept a low amount.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 10:09 pmI think it solely depends on two factors, if he keeps this up for the season and gets 20 league goals. He could go for 50m in the summer.

I don't think the owners will have a small mindset about it tbh.
Villa paid £38 million for the lad from Norwich and he'd just spent a season in the championship.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
Precisely! and Cornet is tied to a long term contract, so even in the event of relegation we should hold out for top dollar for him.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 10:42 pmHe only goes for a fraction if the club accept a low amount.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
The way he's playing at the moment he is worth more on his own than the rest of the whole club added together.
Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
Hopefully there's no release clause that his agent negotiated in his contract.
It would be disappointing if we had to sell at say £30 million if a club came in with an offer.

Whatever he’s worth if he continues like this I doubt he will be playing for us next season

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
I thought that he would be more like Saint-Maxamin, pace and dribbling with little end product, he's nothing like that, good on the ball and an excellent finisher.
Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
I'd imagine he has a relegation release clause in his contract. Whilst he's clearly loving it here now he wouldn't have known that when signing and doubt he would have committed to such a long contract without one.

Re: The value of Maxwel Cornet
I just love our fans. Why are we talking about the sell on value of a player who’s been here 2 minutes. FFS have you nothing better to do? Just enjoy his sublime skill instead of just watching a set of pound signs running around on the pitch. Some people have just been swallowed up by the whole money thing.
I hope he stays with us till his legs give in and couldn’t care less about his monetary value. The bank of Burnley FC holds no interest to me. I’m more worried about how we are going to cope while he’s away at the African cup of Nations.

It's worth noting he scored 5 goals from 1.19xg which means he's scored a lot of screamers out of nowhere. Very impressive but he probably won't keep up this rate of goals.

I think my point has been missed but reading back, I can possibly see why. If we could keep Cornet for five years and possibly even run down his contract, then I’d be thrilled to bits with that. I don’t see pound signs, I see unrivalled talent. He’s a joy to watch. Best wishes.

Just hope our strikers are taking footage home to study, to see how its done. Not only the goals but his movement and anticipation.. They should be paying him part of their wages
