Re: Ole’s a goner
I was hoping Ole would be at the wheel when we went there next month.
How on earth he ever got the job is beyond me. How he’s stayed there so long is baffling.

Going from a complete failure at Cardiff to managing the biggest club in the world is certainly very strange.
Re: Ole’s a goner
Completely out of his depth from start to finish

7.5 million pay off being reported
Re: Ole’s a goner
Never in a million years a United manager but can’t have been easy with Sir Alex looming and influencing.
He’ll not be short of a few bob now, at least.

Re: Ole’s a goner
Hilarious they’ve waited till all the decent managers are in employment.
They’ll go for Zidane (as the stellar name) and fall flat on their tits again.
Expecting Zizou, who’s used to managing Real in their prime, so make a silk purse out of Jones, Grant, Matic and Mata, is possibly even more hilarious.

Re: Ole’s a goner
Years ago it was the same at United with Busby similar to Ferguson now. It was thought cruel at the time when Liverpool told Shankly to stay away but it was thought his very presence undermined Paisley.
But Solskjaer's appointment never made much sense for a club of that size.
Said on MOTD two weeks ago that Livepool, Man City and Chelsea have elite managers, Man United have a former striker.

That’s not a team though it’s a group of divas and seriously overpaid divas at that. Not many of them would run through a brick wall for another team player, think any manager would struggle with that side.
Oh and Harry Maguire at the heart of defence?! Not even sure he’s a prem quality defender, championship at best.

Looks like they will appoint Zidane which I guess will be another mistake.

Re: Ole’s a goner
I get the impression that OGS was appointed as an interim manager and he over achieved, getting 2nd place in the league and Europa last season, so much so they gave him a new contract. They then dropped a bollock by not being proactive, sacking him earlier and appointing Conte.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 11:58 amYears ago it was the same at United with Busby similar to Ferguson now. Giving him the new contract was another dreadful move by the owners. It's not like he was ever going to get a better offer and needed tieing down was it?Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:26 pmI get the impression that OGS was appointed as an interim manager and he over achieved, getting 2nd place in the league and Europa last season, so much so they gave him a new contract. Sounds like Zidane is the man. Another dreadful appointment if that happens imo.

They gave him a contract long before then. He'd won a few games.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:26 pmI get the impression that OGS was appointed as an interim manager and he over achieved, getting 2nd place in the league and Europa last season, so much so they gave him a new contract. Some spectacular suggestions for an interim manager on the radio.
Fergie, BFS, Keane, Bruce, Hughes have been the best

Solskjær looked out if his depth at Cardiff. Should never have been appointed. The payoff for failure just highlights everything that is wrong with the money side of the PL.

Things are going from bad to worse for ManU. Chelsea are appealing Maguire's red card.

Re: Ole’s a goner
Was a baffling appointment but he didn’t actually do that badly before this season - they finished second last year. Big money spent through and some of his decisions have been strange, particularly not playing Van de Beek. Ronaldo signing was just unnecessary and he wasn’t a player they needed - much like the managerial appointment itself, just done on sentiment.
If they were sensible, they’d appoint an interim like Rangnick but I don’t think they are sensible, so they’ll appoint Zidane who, despite trophies at Real has shown he can be limited tactically and argumentative

Re: Ole’s a goner
I'm not sure he ever wanted Ronaldo who, for me, is a big reason they've gone backwards. He tried dropping him but Fergie wasn't happy so Ronaldo was back in next game.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:59 pmWas a baffling appointment but he didn’t actually do that badly before this season - they finished second last year. Re: Ole’s a goner
I know this is not what the so-called Big 6 would want, but why is there no manager replacement window like players have a transfer window ?
Clearly not using the same time of year, but a new manager could make all the difference to an under achieving team. Something which affects teams around them if a "name" is having a bad time of it.

Re: Ole’s a goner
If they can appoint a Cardiff failure, then what about another ex striker & legend ? Wayne Rooney for manager !
No different to when they appointed Ole ! I wouldn't put it past them you know.

Citeh trolled them into it, and those at ManU were too stupid to realise that someone over at the Etihad was pulling their strings.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:59 pmRonaldo signing was just unnecessary and he wasn’t a player they needed

For me, they might as well give Carrick and Phelan the gig till the end of the season, then go for the man they really want.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:46 pmSome spectacular suggestions for an interim manager on the radio.

Re: Ole’s a goner
They’ve known for 4 weeks they were going to need a new manager and to not even have an interim manager lined up is amazingly incompetent.
Let’s hope someone with a foreign name becomes available soon for them

Re: Ole’s a goner
It was the wrong appointment. They don’t have the guts to promote from within, so another set of ideas, tactics formations and players will be adopted by Zidane or the like. They will spend and be paid around a billion pounds during their tenure; fail to live up to expectations then, wash and repeat. Zidane will not be coming to build any ongoing legacy United will flatter to deceive and then be back to square one in about 18months.

Heard they looking at Mike Bassett. Joel Glazer was sent a copy of the film on blue ray and is trying to contact his agent.

Re: Ole’s a goner
I can't remember who it was who said it but they went through a list of former players who were managers and labelled them as winners. Then asked about OGS. As a player he was happy to settle for second best. Be a substitute. Not part of the best 11. And that is what he is as a manager. Not good enough, it runs throughout his career from player to manager.
A very well made point...
