MATCH OFF.
Re: MATCH OFF.
Health and safety does Trump everything, no point arguing about it, it's the way of the world we live in.
Re: MATCH OFF.
No, the primary reason was the state of the pitch as confirmed by the ref, Dyche and Conte.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:16 pmOnly needed somebody to slip and hurt themself, behind Jimmy mac or North stand, and then a claim goes in against the club, and there is people who would. So safety of fans was undoubtably the main reason.

Re: MATCH OFF.
True there was a delay between the decision and our own club communicating it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:16 pmYou would have thought it would be easy to communicate a postponement but we knew some time before any announcement, it had been on SSN.
But none of this affects the fact it was the wrong decision nor means it would not have been possible.

I was in the stadium from 10am, and I had full view of the pitch. The snow started coming down at around 12ish, that’s when they had people clearing the lines. At 12:45 there was about 30 people shovelling snow off the field and but fighting a losing battle.

If we had played and lost say Cornet or McNeil with an injury the same posters who are saying the game should have gone ahead would be saying we shouldn't have played, its not the 60s anymore, times have changed.

Re: MATCH OFF.
As Tony says the forecast said would stop at 3. We all know forecasts aren’t that accurate. Not sure how long you wanted them to wait. They can only go off what they see at the time and even with a delay they have to wait for a sustained break in the weather. Once that happens the players can start to go through a pre-match routine. Going off the forecast that would have been around 3 so would have been 3:30 to 4pm before the game could start.Rowls wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:12 pmI'd checked out the weather forecast long in advance and thought nobody sensible could call the game off today without at least waiting.
The forecast was available well before the shower started.
Why didn't he just wait? Even if the forecast had been completely wrong we'd know he at least made the consideration.
It was the wrong decision.
Re: MATCH OFF.
That’s understandable. Point is a delay of 30 - 60 minutes and the pitch would have been perfectly playable.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:18 pmI was in the stadium from 10am, and I had full view of the pitch. Re: MATCH OFF.
I found this crazy, I had no idea of the delay as I was refreshing the Twitter waiting for the teams (which are usually on an hour before KO). Not a thing on there team wise, I come on UTC and find the match is off.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:16 pmYou would have thought it would be easy to communicate a postponement but we knew some time before any announcement, it had been on SSN.
In the grand scheme of today, not a massive issue - but the lack of information on almost anything going on since the club dispensed with the services of a lot of good people is a real concern. Have we chosen not to replace people or are the new ones just not bothered?
Re: MATCH OFF.
Because people make plans. I wouldn’t have been able to hang round for a couple of hours having planned my day around a 2pm kick off.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:15 pmHow can anyone defend that decision. Why not delay the game about a couple of hours? Stupidity in the extreme

It might not be a big issue "in the grand scheme of things" but a lot of people spend a large proportion of their wages on supporting their team and following them.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:22 pmIn the grand scheme of today, not a massive issue - but the lack of information on almost anything going on since the club dispensed with the services of a lot of good people is a real concern. Football isn't cheap these days. When wrong decisions like we had today put people out of pocket we should be looking into things and asking why such a bad decision was rushed into.
Re: MATCH OFF.
Of course suggesting a delay is a reasonable point and so not controversial. Several people have made the same point. You have just chosen to target Rowls for unrelated reasons as demonstrated by your list.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:21 pmHe's not though is he?

And I'm as guilty as charged for thinking Rowls is a wally, and I'm 100% comfortable with getting after him whenever he's being a wally, and using all the times he's been a wally to remind him of when he's been a wally

Snow go. Good one CTClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:11 pmThe surrounds were ok and in any case most people were already there. One thing we knew is that the snow was due to stop around 3. It's blue sky now. outside so maybe a delay would have seen us able to play.
Not sure what time it was called off exactly but given it was less than an hour before kick off, the teams had been confirmed, with Collins and Cork in. The full teams are at

I was in Towneley at 1pm and it was coming down like golf balls. I could understand the decision at the time but it’s looking a bad one now.

City pitch was close to unplayable by half time but during half time they totally cleared the snow of the pitch. Great job by ground staff. Can’t imagine temp in MC is much different to Burnley. Game was called off 50 mins before ko

I see someone suggested a 2hr delay for kick off, so 4pm.
Game finishing close to 6pm.
Anyone who's traveling by train from London most likely wouldn't get home tonight, what would we expect them to do?
Hope to get a hotel somewhere?

It is reasonable point because Rowls rightly pointed out at the time without hindsight that the snow would be stopping and once stopped the pitch could have been cleared to enable a slightly delayed kick-off. I pointed out to Rowls that there are other factors that would need to be resolved that supporters don't have to consider. But he still raised very good points and challenge.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:28 pmIts not a reasonable point bearing in mind the weather conditions at the time

Re: MATCH OFF.
I think when people who are annoyed have calmed down they will understand that their reactions are down to frustration that the game hasn't been played.
Its not the first time I've had a game cancelled on me about an hour before kick off, and it won't be the last, and the decisions are always taken after analysing all the evidence
Well, I hope so anyway!

Re: MATCH OFF.
I thought it might take until 4pm if a delay was indeed achievable. Others who were suggesting that a delay would have been the right decision were saying it could have happened quicker e.g. 3pm. They were right and I was wrong - it could've happened more quickly than i thought.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:32 pmI see someone suggested a 2hr delay for kick off, so 4pm.

Some of the points he has raised are fair (as are some from other people that Rowls has been unwilling to consider and discuss) but the way he has expressed them talking about people being cowards and being as much unwilling to engage with anyone else's opinion as some arent with his has made him come across like a petulant child.
He's getting some stick because he hasn't even attempted to have a balanced sensible discussion with anyone with an opinion that differs from his own

Re: MATCH OFF.
We can only predict the future with a certain degree of certainty. I'm sure the sun will rise tomorrow but there's always the chance it won't. Other things are less certain, but the weather forecast was near perfect in its accuracy.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:39 pmBut you were right at the time, and wrong on hindsight

What we can always do though is wait for a little bit more time when appropriate.
If the ref had waited 30 minutes or so the match could -and should- have been clear to go ahead. He could have set himself a deadline.
If he'd done any of these things and the match still couldn't go ahead then at least he would have tried to do the right thing by the supporters. He failed to do this and it's clear now that he made a mistake in not doing so.
The supporters were not considered. Many are now out of pocket and have wasted their day.
Your lack of sympathy and empathy here comes across as rather callous to be honest Lancaster.
