Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Have a feeling relationships between Wood & SD not at its best at present. This, and our lack of cash, may have lead us to indicate to Newcastle we would be receptive to selling, with may be a player thrown in like Dwight Gale on loan until the end of the season
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Of course, but I can also see the much more concerning downside of keeping those players on high wages (even after the relegation clauses have come into effect) and not receiving a transfer fee for them.
Just the realities of being owned by people with no money of their own, mountains of debt, and the disappearance of the biggest income the club has.

I would imagine Trippier will provide far better crosses and service for Wood than we provide for him.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 12:10 pmCan't imagine this being anything else but paper talk, I mean why the hell would Newcastle want to sign him, seriously this has to be some sort of sick joke.
Given his age and depending on the fee I would consider it if we had a replacement lined up
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Absolutely realistic that and, of course, most or all of those would want to leave, which would be a crucial factor. Given Cornet's contract, could try to keep him but would be difficult.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 2:56 pmIf we go down we should cash in on:
Pope
Taylor
McNeil
Cornet
Wood
All five would attract PL suitors given they've previously demonstrated an ability to be effective at that level. Most of them would probably go to be squad players rather than first choices, and so talk of getting silly money for them will prove to be just that. We will desperately need the money from their sales, though, so it will have to happen.
We shouldn't be selling any of those five this month.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Just a thought but could these links to Newcastle for our players be a deliberate ploy to unsettle them, as a direct relegation rival? As in, it’s being leaked from their end but there isn’t any real interest or hope they would get them.

It's a good point. Entirely possible to cause disruption.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
This is one thing I've wanted to know. What's in Cornet's contract? I only questioned a possible relegation-release clause but that was me just suggesting.
What's the release fee? All I know is Lyon is paying a part of his wage.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
But we/you don't know the relegation clauses. My point still stands, regardless. Keeping players that (if we went down) helped us come back up could be worth more than selling.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:01 pmOf course, but I can also see the much more concerning downside of keeping those players on high wages (even after the relegation clauses have come into effect) and not receiving a transfer fee for them.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
No idea about such clauses and I didn't know Lyon were paying part of his wages - I am very surprised at that.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
It goes without saying that keeping those five would increase our chances of coming back up.
The risk is we keep those players and we don't come back up. We'll have lost the PL money which is by far our biggest income, have more debt than ever before (multiple tens of millions), and probably won't get anywhere near as much for them than if we'd sold this summer.
From what I can understand of the ownership, when we go down we're in the sort of territory now where, if the correct financial decisions aren't made, we're looking at the sort of stories coming out of the likes of Bolton and Portsmouth in recent years.

I agree Vegas, but any less than £20m wouldn't be of any benefit to us, but if we can get that, I'll drive him there, like a few others would.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:01 pmI would imagine Trippier will provide far better crosses and service for Wood than we provide for him.

So was I when told (good source), but when you look at the quality he has it kind of makes sense. Lyon gets cash up front and some of the wages of their books. Not sure what happens next season though if he stays.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Of course. I agree with you - which I guess is why we discuss these things. There's no guarantee, but my preference is we only sell if the price is too good to resist - or of course they are unhappy.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:12 pmIt goes without saying that keeping those five would increase our chances of coming back up.

The wood situation for me is the same as Tarky or anyone else for that matter, if you don’t want to be here then off you pop, get a bit of money for them and buy a replacement we can develop. We aren’t winning with them may as well get people in who want to be here

Keep seeing Origi being mentioned.
Really? Seems totally fantastical.
Even if he had any semblance of a desire to play for Burnley, which is highly doubtful, he'll be on close to 100k a week.

yep would all depend on the fee, no point selling him for 10 but if they want to drop 20-30 on him and we can bring in a couple of Cornets ability then it would be madness not to consider italwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:14 pmI agree Vegas, but any less than £20m wouldn't be of any benefit to us, but if we can get that, I'll drive him there, like a few others would.

That's the real concern, and it's by no means certain that we will bounce straight back, first priority for me in the event of relegation is too drastically reduce the wage bill, there's no way we can afford to carry a wage bill of £90m in the Championship. However the good aspect is we do have 10 out of contract I think, and most if not all of them can depart for me, and that alone should relieve some of the burden, and that aligned to selling a couple should ensure we can take a calculated gamble on some lower league gems, we desperately need to inject pace and vitality into the side, and these players must exist as other clubs seem to be able to find them.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:12 pmIt goes without saying that keeping those five would increase our chances of coming back up.

Simple for me anyone that doesn't want to be at Burnley can happily leave with my blessing, we only need guys totally committed, and that includes the management team.

I'm reading and hearing Newcastle fans claiming Wood bullied their defenders. I never miss a game in the North East and recall my own frustration at Chris Wood battling with defenders even less than usual in those games. I made a point of it when de-briefing with the lads after the previous 2 mmatches at SJP
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If we go down there will be a number of players under contract who will leave, so I'd be concerned letting all ten whose contacts are up leave too.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:32 pmThat's the real concern, and it's by no means certain that we will bounce straight back, first priority for me in the event of relegation is too drastically reduce the wage bill, there's no way we can afford to carry a wage bill of £90m in the Championship. The wage bill will already be reduced due to contracts and anything renewed will be lower.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:32 pmThat's the real concern, and it's by no means certain that we will bounce straight back, first priority for me in the event of relegation is too drastically reduce the wage bill, there's no way we can afford to carry a wage bill of £90m in the Championship. I do agree though and I think it's a given anyway - if a player doesn't want to be here, we let them go. But we know Dyche has that mindset anyway.
Our best man we need to keep hold of is Dyche.

Absolutely. When we go down priority number 1 is making sure the club can be sustainable. As I've said we'll have lost our biggest income, ticket sales will go down you'd have thought, and any ideas about growing the brand, commercial side, and overseas audience will take a huge hit. We'll then have that eye-watering debt hanging over us.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:32 pmThat's the real concern, and it's by no means certain that we will bounce straight back, first priority for me in the event of relegation is too drastically reduce the wage bill, there's no way we can afford to carry a wage bill of £90m in the Championship. Get rid of the high earners whose contracts are up, sell those that will command a sizeable fee, and try and get rid of most of the debt. That way, can rebuild with a clean slate without having to worry about our medium and long term future.
Such a shame it's come to this, as relegation under the previous regime would have been upsetting but one from which we could have come back quickly from. Unfortunately that regime did not have the best interests of the club at heart and we are where we are.

I never saw it in the newspapers when told, so knew it was before then. Definitely fair play to Pace to fly out and convince him to sign. I really don't think he'd have signed under previous ownership.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:42 pmi've never seen it mentioned either, I follow them all on twitter and don't recall it at all. Yes naturally who we retain will depend on a number of factors, and I doubt all 10 will be released, but equally we don't want to be lumbered with ageing players who have lost their desire, as that's a recipe for even further decline.
Probably Sean Dyche's biggest task since his 1st full season back in 13/14, but that's where his experience in moulding a squad to get out of the Championship will be vital, and he's shown that he can do that.

Well I doubt Dyche will attract many suitors after the past 2 years, so I suspect we can rest easy on that score.Norman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:39 pmThe wage bill will already be reduced due to contracts and anything renewed will be lower.

I think any striker playing in our team would be unhappy, they hardly get any service and tend to do more defending than they do trying to score.

Think Nixon said they were paying up to 30%
The only bit I can find from Nixon is this: 'Cornet, 24, will be given a pay-off by Lyon as he did not ask for a transfer — and that will help Burnley squeeze his wages into their budget.'
Did Nixon say it on Twitter?

Any of our players who have got their eye on a move this window need to be shipped out for the long term future of the club as they won't have the stomach or fight for a relegation battle
I would try and get a fee for Tarkowski this window as he doesn't look interested and look at off loading all the 30 something ooc players in the summer. This squad now resembles something like a millionaires dads army who have earnt their riches in the game and have lost their appetite. We need to recruit young hungry and athleticical players in the summer and clear out the present lot who are now past it.

He certainly wouldn’t get a prem job that’s for sure.
I said yesterday I’d not be bothered if he did go.
New manager, fresh ideas, younger more progressive squad, might give us something to get excited about.
