That’s worrying we needed 3 or 4 even before we sold Wood.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:03 pmI’ll be gob smacked if we signed four. I’d be very, very surprised if we signed three. I’m currently expecting one and hoping for two.

As my boss at work tells me, you don’t get paid for trying, it’s about delivering results.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:08 pmWhy would it be gross negligence when we’ve clearly worked hard to bring in quality players?
It’s good to know we want quality players but I don’t buy the fact there aren’t players out there who would improve us. JBG and Lennon offer nowhere near enough. We’re crying out for creativity in midfield. These are facts known for a long long time. Yes Orsic deal collapsed but as others have pointed out there should have been a contingency for this or moved for him quicker - given our desperation for new bodies in due to our woeful form and league position.

Two or three a window, especially this one is realistic

Probably because the net hasn’t been cast out wide enough not far enough isn’t true, you don’t invest all your time into chasing 1 or 2 unlikely targets & end up with nothing when the window slams shut, not capturing orsic has probably strengthened weghorst hand because they’ll know we are even more desperate, we go on a merry dance or are led on a merry dance (1 of the 2) with no viable alternatives it’s woeful recruitment.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:08 pmWhy would it be gross negligence when we’ve clearly worked hard to bring in quality players?

He could be if he was ORDERED to get it in at his earliest opportunity. He makes space and then turns back and the chance has gone. Especially if WW arrives just get the bloody thing in the mixer.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
You might laugh but it’s negligence which had led us to the position of having 10 players out of contract this summer, the oldest team in the Prem and 1 win in 18 matches. To then repeat the same transfer mistakes in this window would be really poor, in my opinion.

I’m chuffed that we’re having a good go to be honest. Every manager says January is a hard window and it’s easy to see why.

How do you know we haven’t been working on the Oršić deal for some time? This didn’t start when his name appeared publicly. The club thought the deal was done and weren’t expecting what’s happened today.

Bottom of league winning one game all season so far tells me this. The team desperately needs some fresh faces! We all know where the key weaknesses in the team lie in centre midfield, right wing and up front (now doubly so after departure of Wood).ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:15 pmIf you thought we needed that many then you were always going to be disappointed

It was never going to be that many. I was hoping for two, increasing to three with the Wood sale, but four in this window was never happening.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:18 pmBottom of league winning one game all season so far tells me this. If Ramsey goes to CP and that scuppers the Van De Beek move to same we should be straight in for him. He wouldn't even need to move. He could get the Ashx2 taxi.

We’re looking much dilute her afield
The quality of player we’re linked to has increased significantly
Pace is pulling out all the stops to get deals done. I can accept some won’t be possible, I just want to know that as much effort as the lads put in on the pitch is being replicated in the boardroom.

I don't think we will get four either but that was what we needed as soon as Wood was sold.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:01 pmThere's no chance we'll sign 4 in this window, if that's what you're expecting you're bound to be disappointed.
A striker to replace Wood is essential, CM would be nice, but we can possibly get by with what we've presently got, and a RW should be a priority now the Orsic deal has collapsed.
Realistically we'll get WW in, and perhaps a CM on loan, but I'll be if we get more than that.

Cornet back and hopefully we can add some craft from somewhere before the end of the window for the centre of midfield.

Have to agree with this. Vydra 'running on empty', Gudmundsson finished certainly at this level and perhaps the one lower. The right wing position is so obviously evident, along with central midfield but there appears little or no urgency to address them.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:18 pmBottom of league winning one game all season so far tells me this. A slightly different slant to that is the money isn’t there to address that urgency, with the best will in the world if the pot is insufficient that’s where you are.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:40 pmHave to agree with this. In an ideal world yes I'd have liked more incomings, but that was only going to happen if we moved some on. firstly to generate funds, and secondly to free up places in the 25, with Wood leaving that leaves us with 23 I believe, so a striker and a midfielder/right winger would be the essentials for me.
And it appeared we were on the verge of acquiring both before the Osric deal fell through.

Whatever happened to our Youth system? It was the first and best in all 4 divisions when Bob Lord was about. Just seems like the scouts are just looking at old internationals who had pedigree in their day but not now.
Surely BFC have been recruiting through the system over the decades but it seems it has all come to grinding halt.

As we’ve seen today, virtually done deals can collapse at the eleventh hour but I’ve heard nothing to suggest anything is going wrong with this one.
