Boden says don’t get wound up by Gosling links as he’s been told it’s not that desperate yet… that means he signs tomorrow at 9am then

"He is trying to catch up on the years of underinvestment"BennyD wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 6:19 pmP!ss off. Mr Pace is doing all he can to get people in, it's not his fault if they change their minds and stay put. I am convinced we are going down this season, but I am happy with the effort he seems to be putting in. Players like Origi and Ramsey are players that would NEVER have been linked with us previously. Too many things come into play these days, WAGs, threat of relegation, location, pay, bonuses and (perceived) career progression can all scupper a deal. Also, we are not a big club so it's even harder to get people through the door. I have faith that Mr Pace will do what's best for us, even if we go down, so cut him some slack. He is trying to catch up on the years of underinvestment and, IMO, he's doing a good job.
Is the concept of a leveraged buy out too much for this board?

Regardless of people’s opinion of the player - and whether Watford have any plans for him to play - they’d still be daft to sell to a rival because you just never know in football

Don't think he is interested judging by this picture....
Anyone thinking otherwise is in "La La Land"

Re: Dan Gosling
After all the hype and all the effort Alan has put in to chasing some serious game changers who could genuinely have turned our awful season around, I'd be very, very upset if he came back with a guy who can't even get into rubbishy Watford's team. Goosed would be a very polite way of putting it!

Danny Drinkwater ? Incredibly the cognoscenti on here had him down as a “brilliant signing” at the time.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 6:51 pmOr Dale Stephens
Which would be the most ridiculously terrible transfer window signing we have pulled off in recent years?

To be fair if the WW looks like it is falling through we - the Bee Hole End Forum could just buy Wolfsburg.
Here's the plan. We use their assets to borrow money from a bank. Use their profits to repay the loan and use their cash to pay off the current directors.
It will cost us nothing and let's be honest who has more expertise than we do. We prove it every day on here.
Sounds like a winner but who would be stupid enough to fall for that?
Oohhhh hang on sec'.....!

I didn't say there was or wasn't I was merely pointing the irony of suggesting that Mr Pace is trying to make up for the under investment.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:08 pmPremier League clubs live in debt. There’s no excuses for this window.
But to see the irony - you have to understand leveraged buy outs.

Ah ….. that’s a tad different from your assertion that our recruitment team have been negligent if they don’t bring anymore players in …..Yes they may fail…. possibly …. but negligence implies lack of care or concern . I’m sure there is a massive amount of work being undertaken behind the scenes to bring new players in and the people involved do care and are concerned .Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 6:18 pmNo I am suggesting that our recruitment team have failed again if they don’t bring anymore players in

Weighorst looks a good signing, assuming that it does indeed go through. Realistically, his CV is as good as we could have hoped for in a replacement for Wood.
But - I'm very much with those who will regard this window as a failure if we don't bring anyone else in who immediately becomes part of the first 11, or at least the used 14. Noone should read much into the Gosling rumour, but clearly he wouldn't meet that criteria. He wouldn't even be the next best thing, which is someone raw who probably isn't Premier League ready but who can be groomed to replace one of those players who we can't rely on beyond the next 6-12 months.
Whilst not signing Orsic may, in itself, be outside the club's control, we can't simply keep on saying "oh well, we tried", and the cumulative picture of even the 3 windows that Pace has overseen is not particularly great. We did OK in the summer, but obviously needed one more wide player (with the best will in the world, Lennon was not it), and it's turned out our faith in Cork as a starting central midfielder was probably misplaced. And so reinforcements of calibre were a necessity, not a nice to have.
If tomorrow does not bring in at least a midfielder or a wide player, then I think we'll be making relegation all but a certainty, and also leaving ourselves yet more work to do next summer to overhaul the squad to have what is probably a one-off tilt at a swift return. We can't keep living on the never-never, hoping to delay the inevitable for one more season or one more window. We've got to start confronting the issue. And that's why it's a big 24 hours for Pace and Dyche.

Summer 19/20 Transfer Window
Danny Drinkwater
Summer 20/21 Transfer Window
Dale Stephens
Summer 21/22 Transfer Window
No Central or Defensive Midfielder
Winter 21/22 Transfer Window
Dan Gosling
Danny Drinkwater > Dale Stephens > Dan Gosling
Sadly, it seems believable

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but there is no genie or click of a finger to bring a good player to a side in our predicament, no matter how you want to dress this up, the facts are, we are in the January trasnsfer window which brings all its slender pickings at best, then add on the pandemic and threads bare squads approaching the last half of their season, then we are at the bottom of the league with 1 win and play 442 religiously. I take your point of 3 windows, but all in pandemic and I think its unfair to call the first 1 a window. Pace has done 100% for me and hats off to him for trying, I'm not so sure what more we could have done other than bring in substandard playersclaretspice wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:42 pmWeighorst looks a good signing, assuming that it does indeed go through. We have four central midfielders and as far as I'm aware they are all fit to play. Obviously this is an area that needs attention but not in terms of numbers but quality.
I'd be truly astonished if we are thinking of bringing him in.

Space for one more in the 25 man squad.
Surely with 4 CMs already we'd be as well to forget any player who won't be an immediate improvement on the 4 we have.
So unless we can find someone a whole lot better than Gosling we may as well not bother at all.

I make it 22 currently with Weghorst making it 23. That’s excluding Peacock-Farrell and Collins who is under age.

Sorry, I'd forgotten Collins was under age.
i'm assuming Weghorst signs. That would beb 23 plus Collins.
Looking at it I'd say a better RW would be more important than a 5th CM.....
unless we start playing 5 in midfield

With two spaces though on top of Weghorst it’s unlikely we will need to.
