It’s not the Pendle Sunday morning league.

We’ve really got to work with what we’ve got. Anyone coming in is likely to be subject to the Dyche Delay as he is bedded in to the system. Buy in January for September is a good rule of thumb. SD has got to get us through with this squad and given a major rethink to tactics that’s still possible.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If that is the case we might as well accept relegation now. No way we will stay up with our current striker.claretandbluesky wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 9:42 amWe’ve really got to work with what we’ve got. Chris Wood made his debut 6 days after signing for us, admittedly from the bench. I'm sure there are others who've gone straight into the team too.

Since we last came up we've signed Barton, Westwood, Brady, Lennon, Crouch and Brownhill in January and all have been used significantly pretty much as soon as they joined.

We've presently got one fit striker (Jay) who's not bagged in the PL for months, so if we're not going to add to the squad that would be negligent in the extreme.claretandbluesky wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 9:42 amWe’ve really got to work with what we’ve got. And that's before we even mention our ageing and slow midfield, who've not netted between them this season.
If we can't score goals we won't win games, so it's clear where our issues lie.
Also as well as any new arrivals we may have this month it's imperative that Dyche juggles the pack, and incorporates Collins & Roberts into the starting XI soon.
And if that leads to a tactical switch then all the better, as what we're serving up right now isn't working, hence why we've managed 1 PL win all season.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
CM was an increasing issue last season and the failure to address it last summer is a huge reason why we're where we are. The 3 major signings we made were excellent, but two of them can't get in the team most weeks and one is an assured starter when he's actually in the country and none of the three sorted out the problems of an ageing and slow midfield, lacking vision and creativity (sadly). TBF, the striker issue wasn't one most people could have foreseen because on paper we looked like we had 4 decent options to interchange when needed. However, it's been clear all autumn that whether they are fit or not those striker options are also knackered and now the principle lead has buggered off anyway (and considering he was "the best of them" speaks volumes for the other 3 right now!) As others have said we STILL need at least one if not two starters in to play CM and we now need a quality striker too. An awful lot to ask in 10 days and on a limited budget when you're bottom of the league, but unless those things happen we can wave goodbye to the PL without so much as a whimper. I'm absolutely sure Alan is scurrying around behind the scenes as we speak, but he HAS to deliver.

The Dyche delay is a nonsense. We have won one game all season, whatever he’s bedding into the players isn’t working.claretandbluesky wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 9:42 amWe’ve really got to work with what we’ve got. Coutinho had hardly been in the country a couple of days when he made the bench, came on in the second half and his opportunist goal earned Villa a well deserved point. And he actually is not fully fit as he was not playing that often in Spain
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
His biggest issue is he's an awful footballer trying to make a career in the pro game.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 10:45 amJust checked to see whatever happened to Brady and was surprised to learn that he had signed for Bournemouth. I'd say nearly 60 International caps probably indicates he has made a career in the pro game

Are you going to post nonsense on every thread today, Brady was one of our better technical players, sadly for him and us injuries took their toll on him, and it was right for him to leave us when he did, however the fact that Bournemouth, (who could well take our PL place next year) took him on suggests he's still got the ability, the problem is getting him on the pitch often for him to make a genuine impact on their promotion bid.
He's never been quite the same since that day at Leicester back in 2017, shame as prior to that he was a key member of our squad, and he more than played his part in helping us finish 7th that season despite his injury troubles.

Brady was playing well until he tried to dribble through Maguire. I remember that sweet goal he had just scored at Bournemouth in the 2-1 win. He could also score from a free kick. We could do with someone in that form right now.

Dyche fit is a real myth, we haven’t looked anything like as fit as we were a few years ago, admittedly this could be because it’s mostly the same players but older. Even back then we were no fitter than other teams it was just that the running stats were high due to our style of play.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:31 amUp there with the "Dyche Fit" and "Fortress Turf Moor" myths

We’re as fit as we’ve ever been as are pretty much the whole world of elite “ top 2 tiers” of football . “ Dyche fit” was always in jest .Even low divisions are as fit as prem players ( perhaps not the ultra conditioning of post training regimes though ) The fitness requirements and regimes of modern pro footballers are pretty generic regarding speed, cardio ,anaerobic capacity etc . I literally can’t remember seeing a team lacking in fitness .BLH_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:54 amDyche fit is a real myth, we haven’t looked anything like as fit as we were a few years ago, admittedly this could be because it’s mostly the same players but older. I personally don`t think we appear as fit as we were, age has taken it`s toll combined with Dyches style of play we seem leggy after 70 or so minutes, it`s only to be expected but the big difference between Prem players and the rest is speed of mind and sharpness in reaction to situations and in that department we are woefully lacking.

Even when “Dyche fit” was at its supposed peak we used to concede a remarkable number of late goals.claretgimmer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 1:09 pmI personally don`t think we appear as fit as we were, age has taken it`s toll combined with Dyches style of play we seem leggy after 70 or so minutes, it`s only to be expected but the big difference between Prem players and the rest is speed of mind and sharpness in reaction to situations and in that department we are woefully lacking.

Dyche fit was George Boyd running around like a headless chicken.

This article suggests that Burnley were second in distance covered earlier in the season. That was always a stat that was associated with "Dyche fit". Westwood and Cork were consistently in the top 10 of the players in the Premier league who ran the most.
Interestingly that article was from October and Leeds, Norwich, and Burnley were the top three in distance covered yet were all down the bottom end of the table. Maximum effort clearly isn't the minimum requirement for avoiding relegation.

Those stats say to me we spend most of the game chasing the ball, then when we get it we’ve nobody to sprint on the break… they seem an accurate assessment of our season so fardibraidio wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 1:51 pmhttps://theanalyst.com/eu/2021/10/seaso ... ue-so-far/

According to this article in the Croatian press we still haven't met the asking price for Mislav Oršić but they'd be willing to sell for 10 million pounds.

Does Mislav Orsic play in central midfield or on the left wing/inside left?? We need a proven central midfield player and not a left winger.

I find it quite tiresome, when you look for news you get the sun saying 'the daily mail have said..." then the daily mail quote some other source who are publishing something that they saw on twitter who says they're heard it from the player's agent... and then all the click bait sites run the same story slightly changing the facts to make you think it's a new link you haven't seen or a step forward in the negotiation. I'd have thought there's quite a distance to go yet before this rumour can even be considered to have substance.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 3:26 pmClassic brinksmanship, Strangely coinciding with the suns snippet regarding the arsenal interest, nearing completion in the advanced stages other clubs will be rumoured to be interested just for the last money boost.
As far as I'm aware we didn't put in an official offer, we didn't meet their asking price, we didn't get permission to speak to the player, the player didn't accept our terms and he hasn't passed a medical. Seems pretty unlikely that he'll be here in time for the Arsenal game.

You can understand why some of the information is sensitive, I share your frustration with the inaccurate reporting & conflicting/contradicting information, it is what it is & I think a lot of football journalists & twitter addicts just get off on guessing & making stuff up. I usually use SSN & the BBC for the general mainstream stuff.dibraidio wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 3:52 pmI find it quite tiresome, when you look for news you get the sun saying 'the daily mail have said..." then the daily mail quote some other source who are publishing something that they saw on twitter who says they're heard it from the player's agent... and then all the click bait sites run the same story slightly changing the facts to make you think it's a new link you haven't seen or a step forward in the negotiation. Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Tarky has been a great player for us but hasn't looked (to me) like his head is in the game anymore this last couple of months. It feels like something has changed. I actually feel he was excellent towards the start of the season, but you wonder if us going into the last bit of his deal and his agent no doubt now getting inundated with deals for the summer has started to make him take his eye off the ball (literally!) and think more about then rather than now.
I would sell him for £10m to anyone but Newcastle this window (i.e, Leicester, West Ham). If Newcastle want him, they should pay an additional Saudi Tax making it £20m. They can afford it.
I notice Liverpool have today recalled Rhys Williams, their young centre back, from a loan he was on. I could see a world where we sell Tarky for £20m to Newcastle and spend £12m or so of it on Nat Phillips as his replacement. Some would say Collins is, and I think they're right - but if we go down it looks certain to me that Ben Mee would go too, so we will need another centre back soon anyway.
