I think its more that they can gamble on a £18m signing, we just don't have the finances to do that (or so I'm led to believe)

They've got an owner to cover their losses, last season their wage bill was 270% of turnover for example.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:38 pmWhy do fans always put our club down. If Brentford can afford 18m so can we. They get the same money as we do.

Could be worse, he may have been with Chris Rea on his WeghelPaul Waine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:24 pm"Weg" means "road" (or "way") in Dutch. "Horst" is the name of a village in the Netherlands. So, we could translate "Weghorst" as the "Highway to Horst."
"Work" is "werk" in Dutch. "Horse" is "paard."

There is a good player there
Could we not compete with Palace on a loan deal (if that is what it is)
Or Diallo, going to Rangers on loan - we could then let Lennon or JBG go to Rangers

Slight word of caution
Traore has basically snubbed Spurs for Barcelona (well, who wouldn't?)
They will be on the look out for a wide man as well now, and urgently
They have shown interest in Orsic before

Seems a little strange that we haven't heard of any medicals being done yet considering time and work permits etc, usually we have people falling all over themselves to say someone has been spotted.

That's an odd one with Traore, end product isn't that good, although he does terrify defenders with his pace and oiled up arms...Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 4:13 pmSlight word of caution

Spurs were wanting to play him as RWB, which from reports he wasn’t keen on.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 4:13 pmSlight word of caution

It’s not the money for being in the PL. It’s ownership and sponsorship opportunities in the capital.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:38 pmWhy do fans always put our club down. If Brentford can afford 18m so can we. They get the same money as we do.

Chris Boden: Awaiting further news on Orsic and Weghorst but told ‘it doesn’t seem likely at all that he will play for Dinamo — or, indeed, be there — this weekend’. All signs are positive on that front. Still working on Weghorst deal, but hopeful on that

Makes sense. If you were Orsic I'm guessing you wouldn't want to jeopardise having your salary doubled (or more) and getting a big sign on fee if you were to pick up an injury playing this weekend

Boden’s normally pretty adept at extinguishing hope so let’s keep out fingers crossed!
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Weghorst would be a real coup for us. He’s a huge upgrade on Wood. Pretty similar to a prime Peter Crouch who lets be honest was a bloody handful and very effective at his best.

Yes, why on earth would we want an attacking goalscoring International footballer.

To be fair I don’t think McNeil has played in the equivalent of league 1

Anything in particular you don’t like about it Bill?
There seems to be a lot of good hype about him and everyone seems of the same opinion that we need new blood to replace one or two of our first teamers on both sides of the field

It was a tongue in cheek comment. More mocking the comparisons being made.
Orsic has played in really poor leagues his whole career.
However his Europeans form and international shows he looks a good talent.

He plays in the same position as Cornet and McNeil, so where is the need for it unless we have an offer in for one of them.
Truth is we are desperate for decent strikers, not left wingers.

With tens of thousands of people to please, some are going to be disgruntled whatever decision is made. Personally I am delighted we are chasing this calibre of player and can hardly wait to see him in our claret and blue, providing we can dot the i's and cross the t's. There is such a strong backbone to the side, and more of what is required to compete at this level, rather than pure leg-work and gut-busting is most welcome. We have been crying out for creativity and a more expansive style of play. Maybe, we will get that with these new additions. Come on Bill, I can't think of anything more anti-climactic than a relegation coupled with a promotion for Rovers. Let's at least have a go at staying Lancashire's number one football club.

We can't sell Cornet, certainly not to another PL side in January.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 6:49 pmHe plays in the same position as Cornet and McNeil, so where is the need for it unless we have an offer in for one of them.

I genuinely believe we will be relegated if we don’t sign a CM.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 6:49 pmHe plays in the same position as Cornet and McNeil, so where is the need for it unless we have an offer in for one of them.

I can’t see how attacking players are going to change our fortunes when they will never get the ball in decent areas.

If we get this striker we seem to be working to bring in at the same time it might just work.
Hopefully it’s not going to mean the sale of any current players

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
We are trying to sign another attacking midfielder to provide better goal scoring opportunities and to also add goalscorers to the team.
We'd gotten over reliant on Wood to do the job for us and McNeil had been looking out of ideas until Cornet rocked up.
Cornet is now playing up front.
Westwood is still showing his attacking form and Brownhill is passing the ball off to the attacking players.
So that why we are looking at attack minded wingers etc.
We can make do with our 4 central midfielders until the end of the season, we need better quality wingers and forwards because the best form of defence is and always has been attack.

If we sign Orsic I'd be surprised if he scores any goals in the PL from that wide left position.

If he's drifting in from the wing and is more willing to take shots at goal, why wouldn't he score?
McNeil has done it.
McNeil has done it.

Maybe Dwight moves to CM or Dwight left Cornet Right and Orsic CM either way it could be covered by a top class player and problem solved
