Maybe he also doesn't want to try and keep Burnley up at Newcastle's expense.

O’Rouke usually reliable. Good player is Azmoun though reports were suggesting he would wait until the summer for a move.

Also another bid of almost £10m despite the reports of having no cash and ALK wanting to sell etc. Interesting.

Newcastle also linked now too, what is it about Newcastle and being linked with every player that we get linked with

Azmoun is not coming to Burnley, he will sit out his contract and get a nice signing on fee in the summer via a free transfer, another two premier clubs are looking at him along with 4 or 5 European clubs including Juventus, he also won't leave now because he's got another title medal to pick up come the end of the season, it's fake news from the media or smoke and mirrors from Pace and co.

Well, we convinced Maxwell to join us. Not sure if we would have been successful with that bid though if we would have been bottom of the Premier League at the time with relegation clauses in the contract.

Carroll probably wants 100K a week with no relegation clause to continue being rubbish. This would be an appalling signing and would be up there with the Crouch one. We need 3 starters in. Just over a week to go. Tick Tock. Desperate Times.

I refuse to accept that any contact with Carroll was more than smokescreen. It simply does not fit with what we have always been told ALK and Burnley will be operating. I don’t for a second think there was any serious attempt made to sign him. I suspect the agent contacted Burnley, we talked to him, but didn’t follow it up… which when it became obvious we were looking elsewhere, led to the Carroll claim he is turning us down.

Does appear as though we’re focussing on Orsic and Azmoun from latest reports. Quite a lot of Vincent’s around these two from the media.

A real shame the Fofana interest was not reciprocated.

Few of us or none of us will know the entire strategy. That's only available to Dyche & Pace and their tiny inner circle.

What would you do if you had a backup option (eg. Carroll)?

I'd speak to him, let him know we were interested but offer him a low wage that he might reject. He'd know we were interested but it would give us time to get higher priority targets over the line first.

If we land the better targets, Carroll can stay put.

If we don't land the better targets, I'd increase the offer to Carroll.

It's hypothetical but just putting the potential scenario out there.

The Athlletic article says we are still in negotiations with Andy Carroll and we are expected to submit an improved offer to him.

As we approach window closure the benefit of signing Carroll improves. I hope we get an additional striker too. When did we last have too many strikers and would rather play him alongside Jay Rod than Lennon. Looks like Barnes and Vydra could be injured for most of this season

Maybe he turned us down because he doesn't want to help relegate Newcastle? That's certainly one reason I wouldn't sign him, although the fact that he's a thug is the main reason. Our 'No red card' record wouldn't last long with him here. And he wouldn't be any good to us suspended.

If he has it'll be the quickest ever recovery from an hernia operation there has ever been.

I'd say he's playing through it until we get some more bodies back fit/in.

He was on £1,000 per week at Reading Maybe he just wants to play but understandably wants some stability such as a contract beyond this season.

Whether or not this is true or not
We’ll be playing 2 games a week soon, a game every 3 or 4 days, Carroll will last 2 to 3 games and then be injured for 10 games
If Dyche thinks our defence is fine as it is and won’t play Collins, then I’d rather play Collins up front than Carroll

I suppose, and I know this sounds wild, but we may be able to offer higher wages right now plus incentives for scoring etc. He can get a relegation clause in for roughly what we paid and if we stay up he gets a healthy bonus and Prem footy.

Slight difference here I think. Firstly Cornet was signed when we weren’t rock bottom midway through the season. Second our competition for him was seemingly Hertha Berlin. Thirdly he was played left back for the past season or two so probably was more under the radar to come in and play winger/striker.

Maxwel Cornet had spent the previous two or three seasons at Lyon having his stock destroyed by being played at left back. He’s a slightly special case.

I’m also happy we’re going for these types of players, but if trying to sign them means we miss out on more attainable targets, and leave ourselves with no new recruits, the difficult task we face this season could well become an impossible task!

The task will be a lot harder with a squad of lower quality players. One or two additions of real quality would be far more beneficial to our chances of avoiding relegation.

These links are all well and good, but we need players through the door, sooner rather than later. We’ve been fortunate in some respects that January has seen hardly any football, which has bought us a little breathing space.

It’s all well and good seeing links, we need to see some substance. I’m sure we’ve all seen enough transfer windows with no end product to last us ten seasons!

If it comes down to the wire with no new recruits, it’ll look a lot more likely these links were nothing more than a ruse to avert the gaze of supporters from the off field rumblings.

We know January isn’t easy, it’s even harder if the focus is on the unattainable. Let’s just pray that there’s a well thought out plan being actioned.

Just seems silly when he hasn't played for 6 week. Would have been ideal.
