Only downside to that is you’ve got to shop at Asda, the grimmest shipping experience possible

Re: Blue Light discount?
Working in the care sector I've had a Blue Light card for a couple of years. For a £5 annual fee I think it's great value tbh and I've probably had my initial outlay back in that time thousands of times over. The ASDA offer of 10% off everything is brilliant imo.
Also in the last 18 months or so the amount of work that has gone into updating and making the app more user friendly should be applauded too
But then again this is Up The Clarets where someone will always find fault in something and have a jolly good moan about it

Often wondered what makes one job more important than another.
Is a nurse more important than a bus driver?
Is a fireman more important than a teacher?
Is a doctor more important than someone running a business employing hundreds of people?
What about a construction worker? Without people like him none of the others would have anywhere to work at all.

The Company I worked for had a similar scheme.
90% of it was useless.
Just two were worth it.
One a discount scheme with Vauxhall. You could get up to 40% discount on certain new cars.
The other was Microsoft office pro for £18 for home use.

Captain-my own blue lighter saved me 25% of a new bed!CaptainKirk wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 4:05 pmNever knew this was a thing until today.
Apparently, people in these type of jobs are given discounts at various places, which are no doubt passed onto what the rest of us pay.
Are they volunteers or do they not get paid for their work?
Once the subject arose, we were swamped with tales of how relatives, friends, acquaintances, etc of anyone with such a job gets to use it as well.
Seriously p****d off now.

If you’re that bothered, you can usually find a discount at least as good by searching for a code that can’t be used in conjunction with other discounts (such as blue light).

Family dinner in "Prezzo" tonight. My wife showed the card. 42 quid off the bill. What's not to like?

Re: Blue Light discount?
My wife has one and we save loads. She’s just renewed it at 4.99 for two years. Can save loads more than that at one transaction. Big savings at a good few eating places and lots of savings at stores. Well worth having. If you go in a store and get £20 off a £100 bill what’s not to like.

Re: Blue Light discount?
Do you actually know you pay for it? Do you really believe that if Blue Light (or similar) were scrapped the prices in shops would come down? No they wouldn’t and to think so is possibly just a bit naive. I’m sorry bud but when people say things like ‘and we are paying for it’ it just smacks a bit of jealousy. Discount cards don’t put prices up, they are welcomed by places because it encourages people to spend.CaptainKirk wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 8:15 pmProves my point - miscellaneous hangers on and acquaintances wheedling discounts that the rest of us end up paying for!

Houseboy, I wouldn't bother explaining to the wilfully ignorant. He's just another one of the moaning miserabilists that seem to overpopulate this forum. Every day, they find another subject to be deeply unhappy about.

Anyone remember the guy who used to walk round Burnley in the 1970's wearing a policeman's helmet with a blue flashing light on the top?

Re: Blue Light discount?
There was a poor young lad, Randolph, who patrolled - as he saw it - around Nelson in the sixties and early seventies.
His Mum was in a right state too. As a kid, I remember queueing up to cross Leeds Road and she was in front of me with a pram, tending to her baby.
The baby turned out to be a battered, old doll. It was one of the most sad and shocking things I've ever seen.
You'd like to think they'd have been better off in today's world but I'm not so sure.

people who are related playing for the same Club;
favourite movies seen 5 times or more;
favourite places to visit on a Wednesday;

Could start a thread about how all politicians should be thrown out of office or how all the various "activists" should sod off but they will only get locked.
Re: Blue Light discount?
I qualify for one but wouldn't be able to use it really. I'm not allowed to tell anyone about my work, even my family.

There's some mileage in this. What do your family think you do? Let me guess; you leave the house in your Asda uniform but sneak off to fight super villains... You protect your double life by only posting about it on regional social media. Cunning.
