As much as I'm aggrieved like everyone else I don't think it was a foul because the other player wasn't challenging for the ball. Pope caught it and bonked it on his noggin. Not much he could have done. Just an unlucky situation.

We need create more, score more. We've just not been good enough.

Not relevant to be thinking in terms of "x fell on y"

Relevant rule is "law 12" which is as unambiguous as possible.

It's a foul.

VAR should be informing the referee to disallow.

Pundits "opnions" on it are neither here nor there. The law is unambiguous about this being a foul.
Was almost as much contact on Tarkowski as the Newcastle player. It’s a huge mistake from Pope.

He’s got 7 goals in 71 games for us in the competition that matters (league). A lot of sub appearances there, but he misses sitters in those too (3-3 with Palace a very good example) so they’re just as relevant.

To put this into context, James Tarkowski has scored the same amount of league goals in the same seasons Vydra has been here. From centre back. I would also never even think of terming Tarky a ‘goalscoring defender’.
Hardly a fair comparison. Tarko plays every minute of every game when available, Vydra gets the odd 10 minutes here and there.

100% goal for me, no challenge from their player, and if Pope had to come that far he should have been punching, that type of catch over the back of players is dangerous from risking injury to himself too, as well as the risk of dropping the ball which he did.

I haven't seen it.
But I would say that Nick Pope's form has dropped, I'd say since his last England squad.

No foul on Pope imo. Huge miss by Vydra. Cornet injury a massive loss.

The problem is, the sitters people are picking out have been in the dying embers of recent games when he has featured for minutes. Im having a hard time slagging Vydra when he's bound not to be as sharp as he should be. He needs a run of games, not ten minutes where we expect him to convert the winning chance every week. I appreciate there is a balance and he has to prove himself by scoring to get in the team but personally think Wood has been disappointing so far this season. At least Vydra is getting into positions to get chances, something I'm struggling to say about anyone else bar Cornet.

Yeah sadly there isn't a challenge although we have seen those given as free kicks plenty of times.

We had that goal disallowed at Everton because pickford came right out and Wood was judged to be interfering

He does far more than control the ball.

He finds the right space, makes excellent runs and has a deft first touch.
Vydra does everything right apart from the most important aspect of actually sticking the ball in the net, and this is why he rarely starts.

Although if Cornet is our for a lengthy spell he might well get a decent run now.

Zero challenge mate, their player is stood with his back to goal and is landed on

McNeil 1 assist in 15 games. Works really hard defensively but surely his best asset is going forward and getting great crosses in. Has Dyche changed him to a defender ?
I’ve reached the conclusion that McNeil lacks the pace to be a truly effective winger at this level. How many times does he end up checking back when he’s got open pitch ahead of him?

Dyche has successfully converted him into a left back.

Again, people judging Vydra for the one chance he might get per week in ten mins at the end of the game, is not fair. You do realise we have two other strikers playing for 80-90minutes, yet its always Vydra's once chance that costs us?! Give over.

True. He hasn’t come on at all. Super balance and ball control but nothing comes from it.

Fully accept he isn’t alone in culpability, we have a lot of problems going forward. Even more if Cornet is badly hurt.

Yes there was no challenge, Pope fell on top of a Newcastle player and dropped the ball, the Newcastle player wasn't even looking at Pope nevermind challenging for the ball.

Key part here "A goalkeeper cannot be challenged by an opponent when in control of the ball with the hand(s)."

He wasn't challenged, he fell into an opposition player.
If he isn't "challenging" for the ball as he jumps towards the ball in our penalty box then what exactly is he supposed to be doing as he jumps towards the ball in our penalty box?

But even if he isn't challenging for the ball as he jumps towards the ball in our penalty box, he would then simply be impeding our goalkeeper.

Offensively we are utterly abysmal.

Sadly, should we lose this, I’m probably 80-20 that we’re done this season. And that’s being generous.

The most annoying thing is everytime we start to progress forward, we suddenly stop, turn and play it backwards. It then ends up being lumped and lost. Come on lads, desperately need these points.
