Max is a committed driver, and you have to be to be a winner, but there is a fine line between pushing the boundaries and breaking the rules, and the longer the season has gone on the more Max has crossed it. There's nothing wrong with spreading your elbows, but everytime Lewis tries to pass him he gets run off the track.
Whoever wins the title it would be nice to see it won without controversy.

Re: Saudi GP
I don't think he deserves DQ from the race. At worst a grid penalty next race and points on his licence but for the excitement factor i wouldn't mind seeing it just be a warning. This is the best championship since 2010 and i'd like to see it decided properly.

Genuinely considering staying in the pub until the end of the race. What time do they stop letting people through the turnstiles?ArnoldBenson wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 8:52 pmI believe the brilliant climax to the F1 season takes place at the same time as our game against West Ham. Let’s go Lewis!!
Re: Saudi GP
It’s funny because those who support Hamilton are berating Max and vice versa.
I think Max was unlucky today, the 5 sec penalty was harsh and the slowing down to let Hamilton pass at the end of the day Hamilton did run into the back of Max he could have easily avoided him to the left long before he got close to the back of the car.
Masi got things terribly wrong today. The communication and general running of the race was pathetic.
Did make it exciting though.

He should be disqualified but won't for the sake of next week. True he cruised through the gears first but definitely braked hard to initiate contact. They won't publish the data (again) though so it will be opinion v opinion.
Makes for a better race next week though, so happy days...

Verstappen gets 10 second penalty and 2 point deduction for Turn 27 incident. At least that means he can't take the title by taking Hamilton out next Sunday.
Re: Saudi GP
2 penalty points on his licence. Is that the same as championship points?

Re: Saudi GP
F1 is getting like football with all these steward interventions!
Seems they concluded he broke sharply so he could follow him in to the DRS, which Lewis wasn’t expecting. Could have been much more costly.
Anything can happen next week. It’s going to be nerve wracking!!

"However, it was obvious that neither driver wanted to take the lead prior to DRS detection line 3. The driver of Car 33 stated that he was wondering why Car 44 had not overtaken and the driver of Car 44 stated that, not having been aware at that stage that Car 33 was giving the position back, was unaware of the reason Car 33 was slowing.
"In deciding to penalise the driver of Car 33, the key point for the Stewards was that the driver of car 33 then braked suddenly (69 bar) and significantly, resulting in 2.4g deceleration.
The 10 second penalty is pointless. The 2 point penalty is not a lot better, he had non before, the drivers are each allowed 12 a year.

Re: Saudi GP
Good news for next week and arguably fair enough given he (luckily) didn't affect the outcome of the race.. much prefer a bit of incident and controversy to a procession.
However, I think the guy is a bad accident waiting to happen and needs reining in eventually.
I'll unapologetically be supporting Hamilton next week in what should be an awesome occasion.

Good race ,and excellent season and for Max to have taken this to the very end with a slightly inferior car is quite something . The FIA must do something about the engine change rule ,it’s ludicrous that Mercedes have had 5 totally new engines ,not unlike having a season round transfer market in football where the giants can buy endlessley

Not sure I agree that RB is the slightly inferior car. Whilst the Merc has a slightly better top line speed, the RB has far better handling.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 8:43 amGood race ,and excellent season and for Max to have taken this to the very end with a slightly inferior car is quite something .
I do agree that it has been an excellent season though and some of the racing between Lewis and Max has been phenomenal. Hope that it gets decided on the track next week and not through one taking the other out!

The 10 sec penalty might not change an outcome but its a pretty clear judgement as to who was to blame. I've a feeling Max might turn out to be the new Schumacher when it comes to sportsmanship, and I think he'll have not problem with his conscience when it comes to taking Hamilton out of the race this weekend given half a chance of getting away with it.

I mean if there was a silverstone type incident where this time its Lewis that gets hit and put out the race it would be a bit of Karma really.PeterWilton wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 2:16 pmMax is on 7 penalty points now.

I think RB have split their investment $$ between this years and next years car, Mercedes have chosen to invest most of it in next year's car with the new regulations coming along so this could be the biggest chance for RB.PeterWilton wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 2:16 pmMax is on 7 penalty points now.

Having said that, Verstappen clearly has a wire missing somewhere, he just cannot handle being overtaken.

Schumacher was docked championship points one season, so there is precedent for that to happen, unfortunately it was not the season he took Hill out to win the Championship, I only ever consider he won 6, Hill won 2 but for the stewards being bent.

Re: Saudi GP
That’s a very good point. I’m desperate for Hamilton to win because I want him to beat Schumacher’s record, because I still hate him for taking Hill out. But if you just look at it that he only ever won 6, he’s already beaten him. Hamilton has certainly won his 7 with more class than Schumacher!Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 5:32 pmHe will need to be careful doing that.

I never forgive Schumacher for Breaking Hill's car either, the sight of Damon in the pits looking up at his mechanics assessing the damage stuck with me for ages you could see the disappointment in Hill's eyes and I never thought I would see a more snidier driver ever than Schumacher....Verstappen is certainly trying his hardest to outsnide SchumacherLowbankclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 5:32 pmHe will need to be careful doing that.

Re: Saudi GP
Max is the more skilled of the two, he's just in a factually slower car. He's pushing that RB to the absolute limit tho

Re: Saudi GP
I've read this a couple of times and the argument in favour of it is that Max has been quicker in the slow and cornery sections of races but I'm fairly sure those people are forgetting that just like how the Mercedes is faster on that straights, the Red Bull handles cornering better.
Max has potential for greatness but its laughable to claim he's the more skillful driver than the driver who will have either 6 or 8 more world championships than he does so far.

They have released a review of the incident using the drivers data.

Haven't seen that, but not sure why they would take it off the table completely. Surely depends on the incident. However, I can understand them not committing to template punishment for each scenario in advance if that's what they've done.
A dirty move would be incredible, I'd almost like to see it (and the response!!). Better viewing than a procession from either driver... I know Max has win at all costs attitude but can't see him wanting to tarnish his reputation forever, but then again... Leading with 5 laps to go, Hamilton catching quickly on much fresher tyres, I don't think he could help himself.
Can't wait..
