How confident are you about us staying up?
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
Between 4 and 3. If we don’t get 4 points from the next two matches it will be a 3. I’ve not seen anything to suggest we are capable of putting a run of wins together which it may need. The team looks all out of ideas and central midfield is nowhere near good enough for this level.

3. The wins just feel far too elusive this season and we're too poor in midfield

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
I think we have to accept that Pope's unfortunate mistake at Newcastle has caused most people's scores to drop significantly. Ironically, if he holds that ball and we end up with another rubbishy 0-0 draw, we'd all be scoring much higher. That's how fine the margins are.
Plus, if he drops that ball and it costs us a goal and the game against say City, it's not the big a deal, but it's about who we were playing and who it handed the points to.

We are a pale shadow of our former selves won't get out the bottom 3 all season sadly.

I said last season that this season would be the real struggle.
In my mind we're down.

We don’t score enough, I can’t see three other teams in worse form, so I reckon we are down unless new blood is brought in soon.

Lack of investment over the past two year will see us go down
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
2, I reckon we will drop this time, lack of investment now hitting hard, refusal to even consider changing tactics, failure to seriously promote youth, VAR , aging squad poor atmosphere.
We have punched above our weight for years this season the body shots will take us down.

After tonight's result I am feeling positive. If we can win our next 2 games we would be 3 points above Watford with at least a +6 advantage on GD and a game in hand.

4. We’re in lots of bother and I think our time is done in this league for the time being.
I just hope we don’t swap places with bastards.

Yep a great chance for us to leapfrog Watford over the next few days, and maybe even put some daylight between us and the other strugglers.

4. We've been in similar positions before. But from day 1 we've been out running our circumstances and eventually, religation will catch us, this season or the next, or the one after.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
We’re not doing enough and by and large our rivals are.
We need four points from the next two games, and they’re not easy at all. Massive few days for us. If we could manage a couple of good results against West Ham and Watford it could change our season entirely, but if we were to get 1 point or lose both games I’d have us as certs to go down.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
I trust dyche and results have not reflected some of our performances, teams like Watford have been gung-ho and picked up more wins it won’t last.We have lost 1 in 5 and if cornet stays on last week we would of won imo.I will say 9 you can’t get too get too confident.we are a negative bunch of fans ppl will say 3 or 4 season upon season.

Only trouble is Newcastle will improve massively in the new year......still leaves us in bottom 3.
I had hoped Brentford would get dragged in, but don't see it happening now.
We'll need a bit of luck & a good midfielder ......i'm on the fence 4.5.

3 for me, in order to stay up we will need to see the team perform and achieve to a level which we haven't been near. Unsure how that happens exactly.
Like many I feel that the inability to bring in the standard of players we needed will be the downfall. Collins, Roberts and Cornet cannot turn the season around on their own.

4 - feels different this season but then again realistically it will always be a battle for a club like ours. Fortunately Dyche has massively overacheived.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
For me our issues are there in a nutshell. The three names brought in are excellent signings, but it's the one or maybe two signings from CM which are missing which aren't making the difference. We're not far short, but we're short.scamander wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 8:47 am3 for me, in order to stay up we will need to see the team perform and achieve to a level which we haven't been near. Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
Good signings that I’m sure they are, they didn’t resolve the midfield issues, obvious long before the summer window.scamander wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 8:47 am3 for me, in order to stay up we will need to see the team perform and achieve to a level which we haven't been near. Quite why that wasn’t seen as a priority, or if it was, why we were unable to address the problem, I don’t know.

Must admit I don’t understand why it wasn’t prioritised. How can a board full of fans identify it but the club couldn’t?

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
I underestimated the need for a new CM thinking a priority was a right sided midfielder/winger was most more pressing. That said the fact that we are still so reliant on JBG tells a story too - I like him but lets face it we have needed more from him for some time.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
We did prioritise it to some extent last season when we bought Dale Stephens, who has been beyond useless.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 9:04 amMust admit I don’t understand why it wasn’t prioritised. How can a board full of fans identify it but the club couldn’t?
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
If we can win 10 games we'll be safe too.... win our next 2 games? we haven't won 2 games all season and have taken 1 point from Newcastle (A) and Norwich (H). Where does this delusional confidence come from?

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
We didn't solve our need for a wide player either with Dyche using Cornet as a striker.
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
To be fair, history suggests we’re capable, despite poor starts. There are only so many times we can keep digging out of a hole with much of the same squad.
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
Yes, like I said - last season.
In fairness I think Sean Dyche probably thought he’d have more to offer this season. As it happens he’s been another waste of a wage.
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
It's considerably different this time for me, this isn't just a bad run it's been going on longer than that. The previous time we were in a similar position we'd qualified for Europe the season before so we knew we were better than the table suggested, we had a bad start then but 3 months after finishing 7th, we knew we had enough to win games, recent history at the time would've told us that. How many league games have we won in 2021? 3?

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
Delusional? We have a history under SD of going through peaks and troughs where we suddenly put a run together against all expectations. WHU have some injury problems at the moment at the back so there is a chance against them (slim admittedly and I don't expect us to win). Watford are definitely beatable especially at the Turf.
To use your pointless results we have beaten Brentford (H) (above Watford and also beat them) and drawn Chelsea (A).
Where does your delusional and constant negativity (sp) come from?
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
We need 8 or 9 more wins from the remaining 24 games. We've won 1 time in 14 games this season. Btw, the majority on here will say we've played well in most of those 14 games. So we can't win games when we're playing well? There's absolutely nothing that tells you that will suddenly change apart from delusional confidence. Recent history will tell you we're a poor side, 2021 results will tell you we can't win for toffee and results over the last 35 games will tell you we've massively declined and that isn't going to suddenly change.
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
I don't think it's negative or delusional to suggest a side who have won 1 time in 14 games aren't likely to win 9 times in 24 games. Infact it's considerably more delusional to suggest that side is likely to win 2 games in a row.
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
Equally it's not delusional to suggest we'll win two games on the bounce. It's a strong word only used to undermine the view of the person who said it.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
There's too much on here about "we have done it before, so am confident we have just enough to survive". The reality is we HAVEN'T done it before , at least not after such a long poor run. I have almost accepted it as I am a realist. Unlike last year, there are too many clubs around us capable of doing what we once could do and that's to "win ugly" and secure points.I hope I am wrong and it will not reduce my love of the club
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
2 - Midfield poor and as a consequence we can't score. An aged team/squad. A subs bench that's Champ or Div 1 standard. When we go a goal down it's game over. All these things have been apparent for a long time. Depressing.
Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
3.5
If we get 4 points from next 2 it will go up to 4.5 if we get 0 it will be down to 1 given our next three matches. One thing we need is for our 1/3 striker to get back to that level and more clean sheets.
To me our luck is definitely out this year, played Newcastle with their “new manager bounce” Everton when they were on a good run and Brighton in first game when it should have been out of sight at halftime only to somehow lose the game. In previous years we seemed to have played others at the “right time”.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
5 for me. The Newcastle defeat was a sickener. A big week ahead, we need 4 points from these two games to keep in touch with 17th place. The January window is important for us, hopefully ALK will release the purse strings and give us something different in centre midfield and if the strikers are still misfiring (exc. Cornet), perhaps a different option up top. Cornet's absence at AFCON will be felt if we don't freshen up this area in January.

Re: How confident are you about us staying up?
Had a feeling our time was up before we signed Cornet but that has taken it from 3 to a 4.
Most teams go through patches but ours is more than that, especially our terrible Home form. Luck evens itself out they say but we haven't really had much bad luck so this is Luck reversing on us.
Not creating opportumities won't lead to goals though and that is our own failure.
I hope beyond hope it can be turned around but for this current group it is maybe a season too far.

Newcastle may improve but I wouldn't guarantee it, agree on the desperate need for a good CM, and a rub of the green wouldn't go amiss either.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:54 amOnly trouble is Newcastle will improve massively in the new year......still leaves us in bottom 3.

These next 2 home games are crucial 4 or even 6 points and the mood will rapidly change, however anything less especially if we don't beat Watford and it's probable we'll be competing in the Championship next year.
