Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
Pope 8 crucial saves. Wonder if he injured himself though, looked really winded at one point.
Lowton 7
Tarks 6 thought his passing was really poor today.
Mee 8 imperious
Taylor 7
JBG 5 tried hard but no quality
Westwood 6
Cork 7 thought he was our best midfielder today
McNeil 5
Wood 4
Jay 5 should have scored
Vydra 5 marked him low purely down to how clumsy he is in the box
Brownhill 5 gave the ball away a lot in a short spell.

Came on in the 71st minute when the game lasted 93. Tony said it's 20 min minimum including injury time.

Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
Pope 8 won us a point
Lowton 7
Tarks 6 sloppy today
Mee 7
Taylor 7 strangely our main attacking threat
JBG 5 see McNeil, but is on his weaker side so some allowances
Cork 6
Westwood 5 a bit of a nothing performance
McNeil 4 shocker today, wrong option take far too often. At the minute looks a very poor footballer. Can't beat a man, can't cross, can't shoot.
Wood 4 ball bounced off him time and time again
Jay 7 held it up well brought others into the game
A bonus point today as other than a pass back we created zilch and never even looked like scoring.
Sadly you look to the bench and there's nothing much there either, not even to try and kick the starting 11 up the arse.
There are a few players who need dropping for a wake up call, but there literally isn't anyone who can play, maybe that's the issue.

Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
Pope 8 - one really good save in the first half and two you'd expect him to make in the second - but they still needed saving. Some poor kicking today.
Lowton 7 - defended well and made some good darts with the ball.
Tarks 6 - an off day for him today. Particularly in the first half. Use of the ball was below his usual standard.
Mee 8* - made up for Tarks not quite being on it, thought he was fantastic.
Taylor 7 - another very good performance, defended well and got forward effectively at times. Great ball towards the end of the game.
Gudmunson 6 - thought he was quiet but worked hard, a couple of good contributions on the left.
Cork 7 - covered a lot of ground today but thought he was sloppy on the ball at times.
Westwood 6 - played OK, I was a little surprised when he came off but Brownhill definitely gave us a little more bite in there which was needed.
McNeil 5 - needs to calm himself a little when it comes to delivering the ball. His crossing is fsr better than what he showed today and what he's shown for most of the season. We really need the Dwight of the 2018/19 season to re-emerge.
Wood 4 - his first touch was quite good today but after that he was awful I'm afraid. If ever there was a confidence player..... its a tough one but I'd be tempted to rest him and hope he comes back refreshed as he did after his injury last year.
Jay 7 - won more than his fair share in the air and used the ball generally well even if most of his team mates didn't. Thought he could have done better with his chance at the end though.
Vydra 7 - I was honestly tempted to give him an 8. His energy and fight he showed really help lift us.
Brownhill 7 - another who played with high energy and helped us get a foothold in the game after a tricky period.
Our second clean sheet in three games and some very good last ditch defending by Mee and Taylor in particular when it was required. Important save from Pope in the first half also. West Ham are a good side and I'd have been delighted with a point before the game. However some of our distribution was very poor indeed and really needs to improve. We need a positive performance and result now against Watford on Wednesday.

Tarkowski 5 all over the place I thought, just let Bowen shoot near the end, charging out from the back and giving the ball away, passing the ball out of play.
Lowton 6 normal solid defensive display, just offered nothing going forward.
JBG 3 needs to retire imo, he's so far off the pace it's incredible.
Westwood 4 rubbish again, can't pass a ball for love nor money.
Cork 3 another who needs to retire, legs have gone, he made Declan Rice look like Usain Bolt.
Mcneil 5 poor game from him but what is he supposed to do? he keeps the ball, constantly double teamed and a static front line to hit.
Jay Rod 3 - another who is so far past it, I feel sorry for him. No idea how he's earning 50k a week, absolutely awful and no threat.
Wood 3 - zero all around game, completely anonymous when he doesn't score. I said this earlier in the season and was berated.

McNeil - interesting split in his ratings again, points range between 3 and 8. I thought he was poor again today, think I'll call him McMarmite from now on.

Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
Feel like I've got to do these because some of you are watching different games
First half was frankly, crap, from both sides
2nd half a lot better, with West Ham probably the better side but at least it was watchable
Subs came on at the right times, and both did better than the people they replaced, but our final ball was poor all day
McNeil continues to do really well with carrying the ball, and carrying out of the some positions that he really shouldn't be able to get out of, but his crossing got worse as the game went on but his overall contribution was good. The fact he's our only threat is why we rely on him so much, and its time others stood up. JBG and Westwood in particular completely anonymous today
On the big plus side, back four plus Pope really good and Vydra caused them some issues

Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
Pope - 9 - three of four excellent saves and dealt particularly well with West Ham's aerial bombardment in what were tricky conditions
Lowton - 6 - Steady enough defensively, but well below the standards he sets himself in possession and he was one of a number of players who looked affected by the increasing pressure on us.
Taylor - 7 - Again decent defensively, carried a threat but a little tentative to play the final ball on occasions.
Tarkowski - 7 - Defensively superb, but had a shocker in possession and put us under pressure time and again.
Mee - 8 - held us together at the back.
Westwood - 5 - dogged enough but unable to handle Rice, and unable to get on the ball much, or use it well when he did. His lack of composure is increasingly worrying.
Cork - 6 - Did a really good job of protecting the back four, and was able to calm things down a couple of times by keeping the ball under pressure, but again he wasn't able to press, or help us keep the ball well enough, for us to play on the front foot. Had he gambled at the end though and followed the cross right in to the back post, he'd have been the match winner.
JBG - 5 - A couple of nice touches and stuck to his task, but he was another to struggle with West Ham's athleticism defensively, and he didn't really ever look like unlocking the West Ham defence.
McNeil - 7 - There are some surprising ratings for him on here, because his ability to keep the ball under pressure, retain possession and play the passes that helped us get up the pitch progressively was light years better than any other Burnley player. The stats say that despite being stuck on the left wing, he made more passes than any other player, more penetrating passes than any other player, and kept the ball better than any other Burnley player. Clearly those he have given him 4s and 5s don't put much value on that, and each to their own. But - what's no doubt influencing the low marks is that he does look down on confidence in himself in the final third, and he snatched at a couple of set pieces and one cross in particular that the younger, more carefree McNeil would probably have done better with. We need to make sure he's not getting too down on himself, and that the pressure to be our sole creative outlet isn't overwhelming him.
Rodriguez - 5 - His link play flickered and he probably got into more goalscoring positions than any other Burnley player, but he rarely looked like taking the half chances that came his way.
Wood - 5 - Huffed and puffed, but he looks a bit tentative at the minute, even if the service is a signficant part of the problem.
Vydra - 6 - Added a bit of dynamism to our front line, worried Diop and Dawson and got his into some better positions, but the familiar failing to take the final step was on show.
Brownhill - 7 - The only midfielder able to get to grips with the physicality of West Ham in midfield, and he improved our foot hold in the game in the last 20 minutes.
Started both halves positively, but in both cases West Ham swiftly took control, and their midfield 3 of the hugely impressive and imposing Rice, the dominant Soucek and the cute and lively Lanzini were playing a different game to all of our midfield barring McNeil. We scrambled well enough to hang in the game, but rarely looked like a team capable of going toe to toe with West Ham as equals. This team was neither athletic enough to compete physically, nor technically good enough to draw West Ham out that way. In the end its a good point because West Ham are a very impressive, economical team, but without finding a way to show more quality in possession, this team will probably be relegated.

Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
Did we have a shot on target or create a decent opening all game? not sure how Rodriguez or Wood could score above a 4, they both offered absolutely nothing. Did JBG put a good cross in? have a shot? create anything?
I've no idea what game some people are watching, that was as poor quality attacking side I've seen in the PL.

Re: Burnley v West Ham - Player Ratings
He will get 8s most weeks as he us "one of our own" regardless how many times he Shanks it out of play, over hits a cross, or chooses the wrong option.
As with a couple of others needs a rest and a kick up the arse, however we literally have no option but to play him, and that's probably half of the problem.
Our left back is our main attacking threat, and that's a cause for concern
Least he goes forward, beats a man, and looks to commit defenders, the rest are negative, slow and backwards

That is just not fair, and a very one eyed view of the game he playsMACCA wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 5:58 pmHe will get 8s most weeks as he us "one of our own" regardless how many times he Shanks it out of play, over hits a cross, or chooses the wrong option.

If every player we had kept the ball as well as McNeil, then we'd be nowhere near the bottom three for starters

A one eyed view would be a one where a person though he had a "good" game.
He was poor IMO, I can't think of anything that he did creativity wise, which I'm sure is his role.
Like I said he will score high of some people most weeks regardless of actual contribution, kind of like the reverse of what Newcastle93 does with Brownhill most weeks.

Defence and Cork did well… but if we played for a month we would not have scored.

He shanked one cross from open play and overhit on set play, and looked a touch tentative a couple of other times . But otherwise as the stats I posted demonstrate, he was the only Burnley player who looked capable of retaining the ball and using it smartly.
