Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
A classic chant from the late 60's/ early 70's and definitely what is required tomorrow evening.
WIth a small crowd expected, those of us who are left need to give it all we've got.

We win tomorrow against a direct relagation candidate and then we move OUT of the relegation places for the first time since the beginning
of this season,

Can you remember when it occasionally deteriorated into...attack attack...a nail a pin a screw? One for the Longside drunks.RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 7:39 pmA classic chant from the late 60's/ early 70's and definitely what is required tomorrow evening.

Re: Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
But Uncle Sean says it’s just another game to get three points from. You know he is a good manager but he does talk some sh!te sometimes. Okay it’s not a season defining game (or a must win) but I think we all really would like to see this one go our way. I’d love to see us bury them 5 or 6 nil, but I’d be happy with 1-0 with a totally unjust penalty ten minutes into injury time with three of their players sent off, with the ref actually letting us take the penalty as many times as we want till we score (and eventually scoring it himself so he can get off home).
Not that I’m biased or anything.

Did this start from something Jimmy Adamson was quoted as saying before a Liverpool game when we were still riding high around a Christmas period?

This time of year think a strong rendition of Hark now Hear the Burnley Sing would be more inspiring, nostalgic and fitting with the season… might even get the Lord Bob stand joining in.

Wasn’t that the other chant of a similar vein? Wide wide back back wide? I remember a time that was popular in the early 70s.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:43 pmDid this start from something Jimmy Adamson was quoted as saying before a Liverpool game when we were still riding high around a Christmas period?

That’s interesting because at that moment we went forward last week as far as JBG about 30 yards out, then he turned back, laid it off, and it got recycled back to the centre half I cried this out loud!

Re: Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
To be fair it's just generic manager drivel. Plus he's never gonna come out and say it's a must win because all it does is put players under more pressure.houseboy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:39 pmBut Uncle Sean says it’s just another game to get three points from. He and the players will know, as will Watford.
I hope we can win and that the game is free of controversy.

Re: Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
Not sure.
Just seem to remember Attack Attack Attack being splashed across the back page of a daily newspaper on my way to the match and, the crowd responding to it with it being a new chant. Was a big Longsider back then and used to join in with enthusiasm.
I could well be remembering wrong though. It's nearly 50 years ago.

Re: Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
Me and a couple of mates back then always stood under the Longside about halfway up about halfway between the halfway line and the Bee Hole. Happy days. Never been anywhere better for an atmosphere than the old Longside when it was full.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 7:15 amNot sure.

Pretty much where I stood, though sometimes a bit closer to the segregation fence.
You'd never see the match from the same step though with all the surges.
Though you never had to move back and forth across the Longside as much, once the fences went up.

You, Lawrence, Duncan and myself.
Have I missed anyone?
Re: Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
That's good news but a bit of a red herring anyway in our situation... Our attendances have slowly dropped off because of the ground-hog-day effect of our lack of transfers/premiership ambitions/status quo and also the déjà vu effect of watching mind-numbingly dull football for years, even when we were getting results! There are a few other smaller reasons but those are the main reasons. The Covid regulations don't seem to have made much difference to the other attendances tonight

Who said blood’s thicker than water?
There was another guy called Gary who I met a few years ago by accident as he was my daughters best friends uncle and lived near me, unknown to me. Tall guy who eventually became a fireman, don’t know if you remember him. He wasn't a ‘regular’ but was there a lot.
And you know mate people still don’t believe it when I say we started the ‘No Nay Never’ song at the Turf. I can still remember it was you, me, Stuart and maybe Lawrence who started the song that day and it just took off. I think people just don’t want to believe it but everything has to start somewhere and you and I both know it was us. My only claim to fame (apart from getting drunk at a party in Islington with the drummer from Supertramp).

Yeah my brother Stuart, though he wasn't a regular like us.
It was from Stuart that we got the idea for 'No Nay Never'
He'd been learning guitar for a couple of years and did the odd spot singing in local hostelries.
The Wild Rover was on his song list.
I don't care if people believe we started it or not.
Re: Attack Attack... Attack Attack Attack
Many years ago there were quite serious rumours going round that we were about to be taken over by the Patak spicy food sauce company. I had my new chant ready to go...
Patak, Patak
Patak, Patak, Patak
Patak, Patak
Patak, Patak, Patak

Well we know the truth of it bud. Like you say it doesn’t matter, we ain’t gonna get no royalties. For what it’s worth me old mate every time I here that song (or the chant) I have a little think of you and Stuart. Hope you are well and you and your family have a great Christmas.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:07 pmYeah my brother Stuart, though he wasn't a regular like us.
