Apart from Gregg's sausage rolls, there's really no contest
in my eyes.

I stopped using Greggs years ago, used to like them a lot.
Then they started serving Coffee and Soup and the queues got ridiculous. From a straight in and out, you can wait 10 mins with only 2 people in front of you. They're good, but not that good.

As I live in the North East and it is a North East company also I am in the Q right now I have to say Greggs. If I still live in Burnley it would be Oddies all day long.

The Greggs Bacon and sausage butty is surprisingly good.
And Oddies Pork and pepper roll is nice.
Can't say I visit either often though.

Comparing Oddies to Gregg's us like comparing Burnley to Stockport.
There not even rivals

.
Oddies !

Greggs used to be OK but they seem to be becoming experts at eking out any flavour their products used to have. They’re handy and cheap (unless it’s a services) but generally pretty average.

I like the Greggs Steak bake. Just meat and gravy, no veg or animal organs.
Does Oddies comply or are the steak pies messed up?

I’m afraid Oddies don’t deliver to the Costa del Sol (might be due to Brexit) but I can get Greggs pasties etc from the International Supermarket in Fuengirola. It’s nice to have them as a light bite every now and then.

Just back from a trip to see dad in Colne. Returned with a supply of Oddies currant teacakes for the freezer. Lovely toasted with lots of butter for supper. The only fruit teacakes I can find without sultanas and raisins which I dont like.

Never heard of Oddies. We have a Greggs though, haven’t been for sometime but they used to do a coffee and bacon butty, I think for £2.00. Superb.

Greggs are ok when you’re either desperately starving/student/penniless/have no taste buds . Oddies are a good steady bakery , not brilliant but a decent array of pies etc. Used the Nelson shop few times , though what on earth happened to Nelson I’ve no idea , horrible tatty town that reminds me more of a combination of the back streets of Blackpool and Bangalore than Burnley

One is a huge country-wide chain, the other a local bakery with 16 outlets.

Not a fan of either of them TBH, if we're talking pies/pasties, but if I had to choose, it would be Greggs for their steak bakes. The last time I had an Oddies steak pie, it was filled mostly with gloop. Oddie bake good bread, though.

And that will be the last

Oddies is so overrated.
Sausage rolls are tiny
Need to re mortgage for a dessert
Their sandwiches are pants
People love it but I never go in, think it’s crap.

Oddies! Out of interest, have they stopped making meringues? I can’t remember the last time I saw them in the shop. They stopped making fig slices a few years ago. I hope they’re not doing the same with meringues.

Anyone remember BSK? They had a couple of shops in town in the 70’s. I had a friend at school who’s parents owned the business. Sadly he died in a motorcycle accident when we were all allowed to ride 250’s on L plates. They used to offer nice pies and pastries.

They cut their lines of cream cakes down when Covid hit ... I think meringues were one of the casualties !
Still run by the same family that founded them in 1905, I knew the late Bill Oddie through local Rugby circles. He was very involved at Burnley Belvedere and Calder Vale ( now Burnley ) RUFC, and a great supporter of local charities, especially Pendleside Hospice. He passed away in 2018, a really decent man ...

Yes they are local. Been around since 1905 and I think they might be Nelson based, certainly Bill Oddie (the owner, not the Goodie or bird watcher) played Lancashire League cricket for Nelson. Shops seem to be Burnley, Nelson and Colne mainly with one in each of Accrington and Todmorden.
Not as good as pre-pandemic because they've reduced the products because of having to reduce staffing levels. You pay a bit more there but it's worth it.
