Get extras up the order pronto. and that graphic shows just how much Root is carrying this team.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 5:43 pmThe fact extras is our 3rd highest run scorer in 2021 makes this whole year just laughable at this stage.

Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
I think Root has scored about 28% of England's runs this year. Says it all really.
Would anyone consider us playing 3 specialist openers at the top of the order to help protect Malan and Root a bit, and to a certain extent Buttler. I want Buttler coming in with a decent score on the board and hitting without pressure. He hasn't had that in a long time. Not that we have 3 openers mind... I would imagine Root has our best opening Ashes average out of the current lot.
Still got some hope for later tho. Early wickets and you never know...

It’s embarrassing when even the Aussies are acting annoyed at the way we’re losing as it just isn’t a contest.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 7:57 pmI think Root has scored about 28% of England's runs this year. Says it all really.

Think we just need to accept this series is the end of another cycle. Silverwood will probably go, Root may resign as captain after this, I’d imagine a few players we won’t see again or will see them scarcely. Michael Vaughan was correct the only thing we’ve got right this series so far is turning up on time.

Lots of cloud around. But don’t think there will be any rain, it’s quite windy, coming from the south so keeping temperatures down. Forecast temp is 21 degrees, but wind chill Weill keep it down around 12-14 degrees.

Positive test in one of the England players’ family group. Shall we just null and void the series now?
All the players told to stay in the hotel till antigen results.

I guess the hour is more sociable for you
I’m only watching the first hour
(As an aside, I can’t get use to the “reversing” of the scores to wickets-runs)

Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
I’ve been here 11 years and still don’t get it, I hear scores on the radio and “four for hundred and two” I instantly think it’s 402 runs and they’ve forgot the wickets.
Only country that does it.
Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
If your best two openers can't muster 10 runs between them, then there's not much advantage putting someone even worse at number three ...Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 7:57 pmI think Root has scored about 28% of England's runs this year. Says it all really.

We’ve done ok this morning so far - Lyon & Laberchagne gone and close to getting Smith.
But it will take more than this to recover from yesterday.

Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
The seamers have bowled well but Leach has come on with 5 fielders on the edge bowling all over the shop.
Either Root doesn't trust him or Leach has no confidence at all. It's like protecting a 12yr old spinner making his 1st team debut in club cricket.
