Played OK without ever really looking like getting a result.

Played pretty well going forwards. Game was over very quickly thanks to a shocking performance from our defence.

Funny game
Played well in parts
Played poor and not took chances in parts
A bit of luck in two if not all three United goals, but considering the score after 30 odd minutes and being 3 nil down I'll take a small 2 goal dent in our goal difference this could keep us up come the end of the season

A bit weird tonight for me. We played well and some really good individual performances. But some sloppy, wide open defending lets us down.
Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
Michael Owen says Burnley were absolutely shocking! Not sure what game he was watching. I thought we played ok....we just don't have any outstanding class players....epitomised by the misfires of Wood, Vydra and Pieters.

Michael (I’m boring + biased) Owen match summary:

Although on the face of it we were not disgraced, the reality is that we are not good enough and that the the law of gravity has finally caught up with us.

Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
QUALITY,QUALITY, QUALITY-thats what we need in the transfer window. A very hard working performance by us, but Man Utd there for the taking. Our finishing (JBG, Pieters, Vydra was woeful)
Hennessy was outstanding, and what a difference having a GK who can kick. Dwight outstanding in the first half. Defence good again. Stephens looked poor, giving the ball away so many times. Its got a good team out of the way-they will take points off the bottom teams, and our goal difference not too badly hurt tonight. Yes we are playing OK, but OK not enough as most sides have improved, and we are in desperat need of converting in those vital moments. Please lets get Cornet back

This!
However the encouraging aspect is we are at least creating chances, after the first 35 minutes I'm reasonably happy with 3-1, as it looked like we might be on the end of a real hiding.

He’s possibly the newest addition to the ‘Prick List’, if he wasn’t already on it.

Jadon Sancho doesn't look the same player as he was at Dortmund.
Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
General story of our season. Play well, miss chances, give away sloppy / unlucky goals and get beat.

Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
I know what you mean but any slips against Man U are going to get punished, we completely stopped on the third goal which was poor, waiting for a non existant offside.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 9:20 pmWe could have done better with their first goal, but the second two where more unfortunate than outright gifts. The second one was deflected off the foot of Mee and the third was deflected off the post. Bad luck elements in both. However, they did fluff some good chances ( as did we ).
Not great, but not bad and the score line is a touch flattering for Man Utd.
Enjoyed the goal by Lennon, very clever and very well taken.
The whole team needs a lift and fresh blood asap. Hopefully Pace will be getting someone in in Jan
Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
Poor in both boxes today.
Vydra, Pieters, Wood, Tarkowski all guilty of making a complete hash of good situations.

Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
Sad thing is that United were poor. All 3 goals were avoidable. They created zero in second half. McGuire pulled Woods shirt in first and Tarks At the end. But once again we gifted goals and missed chances. That’s a recipe for relegation. Fortunately we still have 22 games to go

It doesn't matter how poor United look vs Newcastle and Norwich, we are an absolute freebie W

We played well, considering the lack of matches and changed team.
We should be proud.
Aaron Lennon was excellent.

I concur. Around 11 wins from 50 league games isn't a good stat no matter how some dress it upCulmclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:13 pmAlthough on the face of it we were not disgraced, the reality is that we are not good enough and that the the law of gravity has finally caught up with us.

Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
I mean who is it who keeps blabbing on about how Tarkowski is a brilliant gifted footballer? such a world class defender.........
Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
You can say that again.
Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
We always make excuses. The bottom line is we’re not good enough. Too many old men. We need a complete clear out. Let’s re build with youth.

Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
we played well? 30 minutes after the whistle blew, the game was over. How is that playing well? Anyone can remain in the game 3-0 down whilst the other side drops to gear 1.

We passed well. We attacked. We had excellent chances. We scored one.
Billion pound team versus a few quid.
Could have been worse after such a layoff.

Sorry Cork and Westwood not good enough
Re: Man Utd v the Clarets - match thread
Another inept performance. Embarrassing that Cornet and Lennon have looked more dangerous then any of our main 4 strikers who generally have no pace (apart from Vydra). Why not give a young lad a chance in the second half Woods contribution was zero yet again. He looks slow , disinterested, clumsy and just like he doesn’t want to win.
